Hiya Cahmichael! Nice to see you! Well, I'm canned but the playlist's real. How's that for compromise.
Wed. 12/19/12 12:02pm Brian in UK:

Amanda, Carmichael. Hail, keep it clean. Love non seasonal.

The only Giftmas song you need play: http://youtu.be/H3ogxQsMxO8 There. No need for more. PLEASE!
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:03pm G:

Is this a repeat? Or a pre"tape"?
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:03pm Amanda:

Hi Brian and G! We'll give Doug a minute to sort that out, as he has his hands full today...
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:03pm Doug S.:

@G
It's there (on the homepage).
Wed. 12/19/12 12:03pm Brian in UK:

@G Oh yeah, that's how I arrived.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:04pm Amanda:

It's new -- I taped it last night. (on my Walkman)
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:05pm G:

@Doug S: Didn't spot it three minutes ago, with a doublecheck. Good to hear. Most of us can sneak in here anyhow, I guess :-)
Wed. 12/19/12 12:06pm Brian in UK:

'....turns the white snow red as strawberries in summertime'
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:06pm Amanda:

@BDR -- that Harvey Danger song is a strong candidate for my Christmas morning fill-in next week...
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:07pm G:

I wrote: "tape"

Speaking of technology museum displays, I have to focus on how to get my copier/scanner to fax. Some people still actually demand faxes only! Welcome to 1992!
Wed. 12/19/12 12:08pm Brian in UK:

@G if in doubt go to left side of front page at top & info link on Drummer
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:09pm Amanda:

@G, that is very heartwarming. Remember to end your press releases with "###"
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:09pm G:

yep, figured that out by trial and error desperation about 2010 :) was just offering a perhaps pointless heads-up

Oops Doug, let the master lay it down and when he laid it down. It stayed there.
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:16pm Carmichael:

The good professor. I'm always ready for some tinkly piano songs.
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:17pm Lewis:

Hi Amanda = thanks for the christmas set that lines up so nicely with my sensibilities.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:20pm Amanda:

Thanks for being so sensible, Lewis!

Hello Amanda and Nazarians!
Just one more week until Boxing Day!
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:35pm Amanda:

If you think I'm planning to honor Boxing Day next week... well, you're right.
Wed. 12/19/12 12:37pm Matt from Springfield:

What I need to do is make specific Boxing Day traditions, so it's not just the day after Xmas...
Wed. 12/19/12 12:39pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh! And how appropriate is this--this morning on the way to work, I saw a guy jogging with a collie! A welcome start to Amandsday!

These are apparently the 10 most associated songs with boxing:

Wed. 12/19/12 12:42pm Matt from Springfield:

Misinformation from Miss Information!
Love Cotton Mather! Like a mix between Big Star and John Lennon.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:44pm Amanda:

Wait, why doesn't that list include "The Boxer"?
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:45pm Skirkie:

The list was rather disappointing upon further scrutiny.
Wed. 12/19/12 12:47pm Matt from Springfield:

@Skirkie: I see it's mainly about "entering the ring" songs. As Amanda points out there are other songs associated with boxing besides the amped up entrances.

From "Raging Bull", I love the Intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana". It's from an 1890 opera, but it fits the film perfectly. I suppose that would make it more of a cinema piece than a boxing piece.
  Wed. 12/19/12 12:50pm Carmichael:

Hey, I have a flat DuoJet! '69, black nitron drum.
Wed. 12/19/12 12:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Ah, a Gretsch electric guitar! Didn't know what that was.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:52pm Amanda:

So, guys -- I will need to leave you in a few minutes because of a work emergency (the same reason why this had to be a recorded show). Doug was gonna take over the playlist duties, but it looks like he can't find a wifi signal. Please keep listening until 2 and I will update the list soon!
Wed. 12/19/12 12:56pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for stopping by and arranging a pre-recorded show though, we appreciate it. Good luck with what you need to do.

And since you're heading out now, have a happy and safe holiday Amanda! Boxing Day too!
I'll see YOU - next year!
Wed. 12/19/12 12:57pm Matt from Springfield:

In the meantime, we get a retro feel of radio, not seeing what's playing and waiting for the end of the sets for songs to be announced! :)
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 12:58pm Amanda:

Thanks Matt, and everyone! I hope to see some of you overnight on Christmas Eve/morning. Yes, enjoy the "pure radio experience."
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:05pm Carmichael:

Happy holidays, Amanda!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:08pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Wed. 12/19/12 1:08pm Matt from Springfield:

Alright, swell gig with your spirit animal!
Collies are brilliant, though washing them would probably require a lot of effort to clean their coat and brush it after.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi there Bob! Amanda just left, but a pre-recorded set keeps us company.

So, as to your holiday plans?...I'm going for a few days to my Mom's family in Pennsylvania, as per usual.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:13pm Doug S.:

Hi Gang! I am parked in a car where I just found a WiFi connection, so I will continue to fill out Amanda's playlist!
Wed. 12/19/12 1:16pm Matt from Springfield:

Awesome Doug! Thank you much!
If the Wifi signal goes away, FOLLOW IT in the car!

Was just about to Google "suddenly winter" because I liked that. I guess that was the 60s Tremeloes then.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:18pm Doug S.:

@Matt from Springfield
Amanda emailed me her track list. I am sitting here in my little red hatchback typing as fast as I can.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:20pm Doug S.:

Amanda just wrote "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch." She owes me for entering "Thurl Ravenscroft"!
Wed. 12/19/12 1:22pm Matt from Springfield:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thurl_Ravenscroft

I keep forgeting who does the Grinch song, but Mr. Ravenscroft is an unsung trooper of the voice actor world. Active from 1940 to his death in 2005, he was the original Tony the Tiger, "No Dogs Allowed" in the Peanuts animated motion picture Snoopy, Come Home (I remember that one!), the bass vocal in Rosemary Clooney's "This Old House", and many many others.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@Doug: Musicnerd Props to you for knowing that already! :)
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:23pm Jessi:

I was listening to the Aimee Mann song right before tuning into this show. Holiday music synchronicity!

And hey Doug, thanks for even knowing the name Thurl Ravenscroft. Whoa, Wikipedia tells me he was Tony the Tiger. He narrated my hometown's Pageant of the Masters, which is a whole other thing you can look up in Wikipedia.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Many Disney voice and singing credits, but one of his very earliest ones was "Pink Elephants on Parade" from "Dumbo"--that must be the silly hiccuping voice on that Spike Jones-y piece Irwin used to use as his theme!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:26pm ndbob:

Thurl was amazing
Wed. 12/19/12 1:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Nice synchronicity, Jessi! Looking up Laguna Beach's Pageant of the Masters now.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:27pm Doug S.:

Musicnerd Props are what we live for.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:28pm Doug S.:

There has been some amazing writing about Thurl on the WFMU blog. Go and seek it out.
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:29pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello all Drummer-Sommers! Finally listening off the Android app. Terrible service here at the moment, but worth it for the wonderful sounds that come through when the "buffering Grinch" lets them!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:30pm BDR:

Oh, OK, you can play this one too: http://youtu.be/X96Un6POoo8 Always time for Root Boy.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Drummer Kevin!
Wed. 12/19/12 1:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Topical Beatlemania Xmas song! Woohoo!!

Joe McG does great premiums, have to see if that one is still in the Prize Warehouse.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:32pm Doug S.:

That's OK, KevinfromBayRidge. The rekkids are skipping anyway. Lo-fi is the BEST fi!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

Ho Ho, drumheads.
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:33pm Jessi:

Matt, my sister was the Madonna in the Pageant one year, oddly fitting in our holiday theme.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Aw man, private issue! Well at least we got to hear it here!

@Jessi: Things are syncing up beautifully today! :)
Wed. 12/19/12 1:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Howdy, UM!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

@Kevin, I have an alternative to the app that I prefer. If you need another option. I use XiiaLive and have saved the stream url as a favorite.

@Matt...hello!
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:37pm Doug S.:

Yup, Charlie's on tomorrow and GTDS on Friday. True nuff.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:37pm Doug S.:

Jesse Kaminsky is not streamcasting from Providence, RI.
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:38pm Carmichael:

That intro was an exact copy of Carl Perkins' Honey Don't.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:41pm Doug S.:

I believe there are 4,762 different songs that have intros copying Carl Perkin's "Honey Don't" exactly.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:43pm Matt from Springfield:

"All the presents you hand her can't never be enough" -- Well, I know who's off MY presents list now!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

I though number 2,467 had been debunked.
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:46pm Carmichael:

I'll try and name them all. Get right back to you.
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:47pm Doug S.:

Musicnerd props to Uncle Michael!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

Hey, I could be wrong.
Wed. 12/19/12 1:48pm Matt from Springfield:

Joni sings the "Blue"s!
  Wed. 12/19/12 1:49pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Thanks for the alternative, Unc. Would any of us be here IF we did'nt love lo-fi (and lo brow), Doug?!
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:50pm Doug S.:

Our new slogan:

WFMU: AIM LO!
Avatar Wed. 12/19/12 1:51pm Doug S.:

Hey gang,
Speaking for Amanda and all of us here at GTDR HQ, have a spectacularly calm holiday!
Wed. 12/19/12 1:55pm Matt from Springfield:

"WFMU: You can aim for the stars, but you can see them better from low on the ground!"
Wed. 12/19/12 1:57pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Doug, I'll see you around until Friday, but to those who aren't: have a calmly spectacular holiday! Be safe, have fun, enjoy the New Year!

Thanks for updating the playlist too!
