Skirkie:
The list was rather disappointing upon further scrutiny.
|
Wed. 12/19/12 12:47pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Skirkie: I see it's mainly about "entering the ring" songs. As Amanda points out there are other songs associated with boxing besides the amped up entrances. From "Raging Bull", I love the Intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana". It's from an 1890 opera, but it fits the film perfectly. I suppose that would make it more of a cinema piece than a boxing piece.

Amanda just wrote "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch." She owes me for entering "Thurl Ravenscroft"! |
|
Wed. 12/19/12 1:22pm
Matt from Springfield:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thurl_Ravenscroft I keep forgeting who does the Grinch song, but Mr. Ravenscroft is an unsung trooper of the voice actor world. Active from 1940 to his death in 2005, he was the original Tony the Tiger, "No Dogs Allowed" in the Peanuts animated motion picture Snoopy, Come Home (I remember that one!), the bass vocal in Rosemary Clooney's "This Old House", and many many others.

I was listening to the Aimee Mann song right before tuning into this show. Holiday music synchronicity! And hey Doug, thanks for even knowing the name Thurl Ravenscroft. Whoa, Wikipedia tells me he was Tony the Tiger. He narrated my hometown's Pageant of the Masters, which is a whole other thing you can look up in Wikipedia.

Matt from Springfield:
Many Disney voice and singing credits, but one of his very earliest ones was "Pink Elephants on Parade" from "Dumbo"--that must be the silly hiccuping voice on that Spike Jones-y piece Irwin used to use as his theme!
