Hullo dere -- I'm-a back (well, I will be in 10 minutes anyhow). Many thanks to Thom Jones for filling in last week. Today's show has no theme, but will feature lots of post-punk, minimal synth, and such -- with a few curveballs thrown in.
  11:58am
listener james from westwood:

welcome back, tony! thom conjured a joyous noise during your break. looking forward to all of the above! and howdy all you out there in streamtime!

@ Jack -- that last track is my intro, and is a collage of mine. Oh, and greetings!

Ricardo Montalban:

Is that Das Kapital a compilation?
  12:07pm
Brian in UK:

Jack that was troubles' show!!
Avatar 12:07pm
tonyc:

Hola, Ricardo! No, Hot Sox's "Das Kapital" is not a comp -- but there is a comp by that name, of bands from Washington, DC.
  12:08pm

@Jack
That Lonnie Holley stuff is amazing!

Brian in UK:

Hail Dust to Digital.
Avatar 12:10pm

Oh, I get it, Jack -- you were asking about the track *before* my in-theme. Thanks, Doug!
  12:10pm
Ricardo Montalban:

that's what I was thinking of. I have it but haven't listened to it much.
Happy blizzardday, Tony!
Avatar 12:11pm
tonyc:

Happy Blizzard to you as well! Probably more dramatic out where you are....
  12:14pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I managed to toboggan my way down the hill and to work. Getting home may be another story.
Avatar 12:16pm
tonyc:

Out here the snow hasn't even covered over the grass yet, so tobogganing is probably not in the cards.
  12:22pm
listener james from westwood:

it's about 52 degrees in north jersey. very anomalous. but i'm not gonna say no to the chance to wear shorts around the house.
  12:33pm
Ricardo Montalban:

It's funny. In this part of the NW, the slightest amount of snow makes everyone hyperventilate, then they ritualistically go out and try to learn how to drive in the snow, slide around, crash into ditches.
Avatar 12:36pm
tonyc:

The poodles of Portland should be happy the city doesn't put salt everywhere when it snows. In NYC the salt cuts up little dog feet.

GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

Great bum rushers show last week hosted by the big Dick himself DDD!
looking for some more anal this week from you Tony!
  12:38pm
Ricardo Montalban:

not to mention the corrosion it does to cars. They do use this weird liquid deicer on the roads around here. I don't know what it's made out of but it does seem to work.
Avatar 12:41pm
tonyc:

Hola, GB on A! Today's show will bleach out all things anal.

patches of blue here and there in these parts. welcome after gloomy, misty, days.
Avatar 1:21pm

Wish I could find more music by Influenza Productions, who released at least a couple of cassettes in the '80s. All I have are a few compilation tracks.

And now, Joisey's own You.
  1:35pm
Ricardo Montalban:

Back from an office birthday party/meeting, where a chum and I were nearly ejected for laughing at someone continuously feeding string cheeses into his head orifice, something like eleven of them in rapid succession.
  1:37pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

Ric,
as the late great Frank Zappa said:-
"I want to ram up your poop shoot"!
Avatar 1:38pm
tonyc:

A string cheese incident, huh? Were party meats served at the party/meeting?
Avatar 1:40pm
tonyc:

And here's a song about work....
  1:40pm
listener james from westwood:

man, eating that many string cheeses is just asking to be noticed, if not laughed at. i'm with you guys.
  1:40pm
Ricardo Montalban:

No meats, just a ridiculous amount of apple fritters and string cheese. I'm glad I don't share a workspace with Mr. Stringcheese when he has his incident.
  1:43pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

String Cheese Incident - once I got a live recording of theirs (eh about 9 cds in fact), now how is a piece of string or even cheese, I mean it was that boring at some point I wanted to know why I had wasted my money like that!
  1:45pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

Is this a new Bene Gesserit piece?
Avatar 1:46pm
tonyc:

Yes -- brand new in fact.
Avatar 1:46pm
tonyc:

Vinyl-only.
  1:48pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

oh what a pity - I got rid of my reocrd deck a good 10 years ago!
I will have to keep this show as my record of the disc!
  1:48pm
Ricardo Montalban:

@ GAYE BIKERS: Someone recently posted a collage of one year (77) of The Grateful Dead tuning up before shows and it made me make the (somewhat cliche) Dead joke "how can you tell they're done tuning up and when they're playing music.
  1:50pm
Uncle Michael:

I'd like to hear that collage.
Avatar 1:50pm
tonyc:

RE vinyl-only: For better or worse, more and more of the most interesting new releases (to me, anyhow) are vinyl-only.
  1:51pm
listener james from westwood:

a variation on that gag was circulated after ravi shankar's passing, about his tune-up at what, the monterey pop festival, getting applause, and his wry commentary on their reaction.
  1:51pm
Uncle Michael:

'77 was arguably their best year for tuning up. Some say '69 or '73...but I'm a '77 guy.
  1:52pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I like this track. Is it leftover Italian stuff?
  1:52pm
listener james from westwood:

sounds like we're rowing somewhere!
Avatar 1:52pm
tonyc:

Yes, leftover pasta rock.
  1:53pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

well said our Ric!
when Jerry jammed for 3 hours which part was stoned and which part was just him tripping!
I 'll be the first to recommend the complete Europe 72 cds, all 450 hours of it, to insomniacs, pseudo masichists and death row prisoners to get an experience of the after life early!
  1:53pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I feel like I'm in a Canadian Film Board film with my eyes closed for some reason.
Avatar 1:54pm
tonyc:

You are! Which means you can't read this.
  1:55pm

Yes Ricardo...that no man's land between narrative and non-narrative film where no one really wants to go.

Is this Bene Gesserit new material or is this a compilation?
  1:58pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

this has got me really hot - its got my testes jiving!
  1:58pm
Ricardo Montalban:

I've always been curious about them, but, like a lot of similar bands, I don't know where to jump in.
Avatar 1:59pm
tonyc:

@ Ricardo: New material -- even uses Bandcamp sounds.
Avatar 1:59pm
tonyc:

Jump in anywhere, I say -- it's all great.
  2:02pm
GAYE BIKERS ON ACID:

what Libido also had an album called Marquee moon?
Avatar 2:03pm
tonyc:

Nope -- that was the name of a Japanese music magazine, which released this flexi. Their name must have been inspired by Television.
Avatar 2:20pm

There's mellotron on this Metal Vox track, if I'm not mistaken!

one minute of TonyC is worth about24 hours of anyone else. Fucking Zydeco music, I mean Doug come on, I want to hear art damaged post punk psychedelia!
Avatar 2:54pm
tonyc:

Yes, as Doug just said, Tony-Coulter-from-the-past will be filling in for me next week (Christmas morning). It'll be a re-broadcast of a Christmas day show I did in 2008. Was thinking of just re-broadcasting today's show, but as it didn't come out too Christmas-y it's just as well I'm not doing that!
