Hi Irene and fellow "magic listeners"! Lurking until I heard your mention of iTunes 11 (never make decisions before having coffee, or in my case after having whiskey! :) The new iTunes is more like the iPad layout, a bit more confusing and a bit more streamlined, with customized options fairly hidden. IF you want a layout similar to the old iTunes, display music by "Songs", or else by "Playlists" and check "Music". This will give you the familiar grid style, and then you can choose columns and sort by any category you wish, as before.

pierre:
euh guys, I have a english question to ask you, what does the verb "prepping" mean ?
|
Mon. 12/10/12 1:40pm
Matt from Springfield:
Bonjour pierre! "Prepping" is a short way of saying "to prepare".
|
Mon. 12/10/12 1:42pm
pierre:
alright, thanks Matt (and bonjour) !

No prob, pierre! Hi Van! What's this about an August-in-December birthday?...

Hi Matt! I really don't know. But I do have suspicions. :)

Irene:
Thanks for the advice, Matt, although this doesn't exactly help me. I like to have things like file type, sample rate, date added, all in columns, along with the album covers fanning out at the top. It helps me stumble across thngs I forgot I had in there. I found where to do the column display, but I liked the old display better. Dang Apple! Always gotta "Make things better." |

Mon. 12/10/12 1:56pm
Van in DC:
@Matt - I will say that my suspicions arise in a place where I totally agreed with you on Extradition singer sounding amazingly like Sandy Denny :)
|
Mon. 12/10/12 1:56pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Van: Well, I'll just have to see how that pans out! If it is your "birthday", I think you should get a song request :) Incidentally, I couldn't get in touch with you beforehand, but obviously we didn't have a Meetup last weekend. Something with Dan in Falls Church's mother, and I also didn't hear anything from Ace or Greg. Once I can get at least 3 listeners, a VA meetup is on, followed by a DC meetup. Though I may want to skip ahead and do a DC-based one first, there's at least a larger pool of listeners based there.

|
Mon. 12/10/12 1:58pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Irene: Yeah, afraid I don't know yet how to create that kind of setup in the new iTunes, but gotta agree with you: any "improvement" or "update" sent out in any software, they always seem to take away something cool along with it...!

Never know it is when you feel a bit "comfortably numb". Sometimes I'll want something lively to snap me out of it, but other times, as this aftenoon, I just want to go with it.

Robert:
The great thing about "prepare" is that it's one of those verbs that can be used either transitively or intransitively. If you use it intransitively, it's implied to be reflexive, preparing yourself. But then, couldn't I say the same about the French "preparer"? Would one have to "se prepare", or could s/he simply "prepare" without an explicit object?
