You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

  Mon. 12/3/12 9:07pm I heart ear candles:

Dan's sister in the house! Can I have some of those ear candles please?
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:12pm Dan B:

Hi all -- @sweet cheri, I'm partial to the little drummer boy and we three kings.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:12pm G:

I love the Public Enemy cover of "Silent Night"
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:13pm Srah Bdah:

I'm remembering you were the first person to introduce me to Public Enemy, long ago...nice one.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:13pm Dan B:

Better is the Test Department "Carol of the Bells"
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:14pm Dan B:

They don't make them like this anymore...so raw and intense -- a gazillion samples modified and layered. The music is so complex in PE. Love the Terminator!
Mon. 12/3/12 9:18pm Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Dan and all the listeners.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:19pm Dan B:

Hola mi amigo Richard! Que tal?
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:20pm mr personality:

Skinny Puppy. One of the greatest bands ever.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:20pm Andrew Waterloo:

Love Key's drumming on that song
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:22pm Dan B:

Been a while since I listened to that one -- nice to go back there. This Plus Instruments features David Linton & Lee Ranaldo & Truus de Groot from 81 (post Chatham, pre SY)
Mon. 12/3/12 9:24pm Richard from Venezuela:

Todo perfecto Dan. Disfrutando de tu seleccion musical.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:26pm Andrew Waterloo:

Skinny Puppy has the largest section in my music collection.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:27pm Dan B:

What are the puppies up to now Andrew?
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:29pm Wiki:

A live album, titled Bootlegged, Broke, and In Solvent Seas and recorded on the band's 2010 European tour, was released on June 12, 2012. Skinny Puppy is currently working on a new album, as stated on their Facebook on October 16th, 2012.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:30pm Andrew Waterloo:

They just put out a live album and apparently they are putting out a new album soon. I'm not really interested in their newer stuff. I was lapping all the b-sides and vault releases they were doing. Side projects as well.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:31pm Dan B:

Thank you Andrew & the Hive Mind for supporting me in my radio-distracted researchlessness
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:35pm Andie:

Hey Dan....wow some blasts from the murky past... how are?
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:41pm Uncle Michael:

Hello room.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:48pm Srah Bdah:

'ello 'ello Uncle Michael!
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:50pm Uncle Michael:

Back in my days as stage hand I worked a summer shed show that featured New Order, PIL and Sugarcubes. Members of PIL were bigger groupie horndogs than any of the hair bands I worked local crew for.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:51pm Dan B:

@Andie - yes, revisiting some great times tonight. All good, how's things?
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:51pm Srah Bdah:

Welp, that's it. I wasn't planning on dancing all over the living room tonight, but this marching band has changed my mind.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:51pm Dan B:

@Uncle Michael - LOL I bet they really riled the groupies up with the Albatross dirge
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:53pm Ignore Function:

This is awesome.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:53pm robin:

so awesome! reminds me of the leland stanford junior varsity etc.!
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:55pm Srah Bdah:

T. Valentine sounds like he could just possibly be a groupie horndog as well.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:57pm Andie:

going to have to break away after this daddy long legs track...so rude but so good! must go up and check homework.
  Mon. 12/3/12 9:59pm 12539:

I hope the FCC enjoyed that ID as much as I did.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 9:59pm Dan B:

I thought the marching band and T Valentine went well together. You oughta see T Valentine's teeth -- in fact, I'll tweet a photo for you all, they are bummin in a major way!
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:00pm Uncle Michael:

Ok...is everyone ready? Because the new Scott Walker is out!
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:01pm Andrew Waterloo:

New Scott Walker? That's why I'm in a remote cabin right now.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:02pm Wiki:

  Mon. 12/3/12 10:02pm Uncle Michael:

You're hiding from Scott Walker?
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:04pm Dan B:

twitter.com... -- the Teeth! Aiee, the Teeth!!
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:04pm Srah Bdah:

That New Scott Walker is so anti-union.
Mon. 12/3/12 10:04pm Richard from Venezuela:

Scott walker's new release is good.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:05pm Uncle Michael:

You've heard it. Richard?
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:05pm Srah Bdah:

@Dan B, you weren't kidding about those teeth? Doesn't look like he has any vampire teeth left there...
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:06pm Dan B:

@Srah, au contraire, I'm sure you'd be infected for all eternity if bitten by those teeth!

  Mon. 12/3/12 10:08pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Richard!
Mon. 12/3/12 10:10pm Richard from Venezuela:

You're welcome
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:11pm dave:

like so much from genesis et al., "Alien Lightning Meat Machine" could easily come from the soundtrack to the best cyberpunk movie never made.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:12pm Dan B:

I am SOOO digging the Jeff "Bunsen" Berner guitar work in this PTV3 lineup. Hes always such a pleasure to listen to.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:12pm Uncle Michael:

Or an unreleased Hawkwind album.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:15pm dave:

  Mon. 12/3/12 10:16pm Joe D.:

I am not sure if this is the "Machine Gun" from Band of Gypsys or one of the other "Machine Gun"s recorded during that same New Years run and released on that "Live at the Fillmore East" thing
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:16pm Srah Bdah:

Was just reading Patti Smith's reminiscences of meeting Jimi on the stairs to his studio not long before he died. She later recorded her first album at Electric Lady. Just Kids was pretty good.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:17pm Joe D.:

I'm leaning very heavily towards "alternate". Damn has it really been so long since I've listened to Band of Gypsys???
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:20pm Srah Bdah:

Always stunned when I listen to Jimi's guitar playing. No, Yep, he really was that good.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:21pm ELM:

He was so damn good.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:21pm Droll:

I've heard Jimi a gazillion times, and I struggled hard to thing of some way of coming up with a comment about how impressive Machine Gun is, but all I come up with is I'm so glad Jimi was over-recorded during the brief period he was here.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:24pm Dan B:

There's almost nothing better than this music. It's got everything in it. The blues in this are so infectious they create a whole future of music spontaneously.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:26pm Destroit:

Hello Dan, sad I missed the PTV track but glad to be here to get gunned by Jimi.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:26pm The Grabber:

Your into 80's hair rock.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:29pm Uncle Michael:

I had no idea those WERE Hawkwind songs.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:29pm The Grabber:

Play some Nugent : )
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:33pm Dan B:

Hey Grabber, Nugent can kiss my Foreigner right in its Head Games!
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:35pm Dan B:

@Destroit, glad you got here in time to get gunned down
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:36pm dave:

this dan friel/peaking lights track: wow.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:42pm Srah Bdah:

Ok, can I just say that looking through Robert Mapplethorpe nudes while listening to The Residents is an experience not to miss. (went to look up Mapplethorpe after I mentioned the Patti Smith book)
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:42pm Uncle Michael:

In the earliest days of the Residents...they were still "just these artist friends of mine" to an uncle of mine. I explained to him they'd become kind of important....this was a conversation around '81 or so...and he showed me his copy of the original Santa Dog ep and told me he thought it had just been an audio christmas card from his friends.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:49pm Dan B:

Quite a story Uncle Michael! How did your uncle come to know them?
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:54pm Uncle Michael:

My uncle has been involved in the arts his whole life, jazz musician, filmmaker, gallery owner, etc. If you've seen the Sun Ra film Space Is The Place, he produced it. I actually had a long exchange today with Doug Schulkind about him because they're both Oberlin guys and turns out they had a mutual friend that one knew 30 years after the other.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:56pm Dan B:

Ah wild. Like Doug, I started doing radio at WOBC at Oberlin. I lived there for 3 years while my now wife went there. I am a proud transfer student of Lorain Co. Comm. College. Those were great days. Lots going on out there.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 10:56pm Dan B:

Love the Space is the Place film
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:56pm Uncle Michael:

Loving this Melvin.
  Mon. 12/3/12 10:58pm Uncle Michael:

Well, if you're an Oberlin guy, you know Brubeck's Jazz at Oberlin album. If you have it, flip it over and read the liner notes. My uncle wrote 'em. He brought Brubeck (and many others) to campus.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:00pm Uncle Michael:

When were you there? John Seavers was the mutual friend.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:03pm Uncle Michael:

Not hearing the greatest things about the shows on this Neil tour.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:04pm The Grabber:

Yes! This Young track is Trans-like!
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:06pm Dan B:

@Grabber, yeah! @Uncle Mike - Jesse Jarnow just popped in and said he paid $120 to see Neil & CH at the Garden and it was worth every penny. So who knows. At least I've seen him 3 times before, including with CH, but it has been a while...
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:07pm Dan B:

@Uncle Mike, I don't have that Brubeck record, but will check it out. Don't know John Seavers -- I was there from 93-96
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:10pm mb:

First time i heaard the Ozrics on the radio. Nice selection.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:12pm Uncle Michael:

I'm sure different people have different tastes and I'm also reasonably sure there are good nights and bad nights. I last saw Neil at the Bridge School benefit the year McCartney and Tony Bennett headlined. Keep in mind my uncle wrote like he was 22...because he was back then. John Seavers was a guy I never heard if till today. But he was part of my uncle's scene back in '53-'55-ish. A townie the same age that later, Doug brought in to be on the air when he was in his 50s. Doug told me it was a fight to get a non-student on the air and that John wound up jazz director at the station. John had made the trip with my uncle and others to Canada for THE Massey Hall concert in May of '53.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:12pm Dan B:

Saw Ozrics at Peabody's Down Under in the Cleveland Flats in 1994-95, great show
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:13pm Uncle Michael:

I have never hear of Ozric Tentacles. That's why I've become a WFMU listener/
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:15pm Destroit:

Love M Geddes Gengras.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:15pm Dan B:

@Uncle Mike, yeah, I owe Doug a bit for my beginning in radio -- by the time I was living in Oberlin as a townie going out with a student, it was totally normal for "community members" to have shows, and indeed, it was mostly community members throughout the summers. So bully to Doug for fighting those fights. He has mentioned that episode to me in the past, which must be why John's name is vaguely familiar to me. It can't be said too often: may God bless Doug Schulkind repeatedly and lavishly.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:15pm steve:

this is great... never heard this guy before
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:18pm Uncle Michael:

I've only been "Internet friends" with Doug for a very short time but he's been very generous to me.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:18pm Srah Bdah:

I feel like I'm at a rave on a submarine: http://youtu.be/Ky1c_pF5qoc
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:18pm Dan B:

Learned of M Geddes Gengras b/c he did a dub record recently with Sun Araw that is the freaking BOMB. then saw this tape in the "new bin" and wow, he's pretty great.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:20pm Dan B:

Ah I see a note on the M Geddes Gengras tape that he's in Robedoor.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:24pm Uncle Michael:

One final plug for my Uncle. He's just shy of 80 and he holds down the baritone sax chair in the Junius Courtney Big Band in the Bay Area...oh and he's Emeritus with Other Minds, having co-founded the Other Minds Festival with Charles Amerkanian. I think you have most of the high points on his CV now. :)
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:29pm Dan B:

Sounds like an awesome guy, Uncle Mike, you're justifiable proud.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:32pm Uncle Michael:

Very proud...everyone should have (or be) a coolest relative. He's mine. I do go on...
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:32pm Srah Bdah:

This Expo 70 is lovely. Apt title...
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:37pm Dan B:

@Srahm, yeah, it's really built into something pretty amazing, eh?
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:37pm ?:

Thank you for a transporting evening, Mr Bodah.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:38pm 12539:

Oops, that was me. Nearly forgot who I am.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:38pm Srah Bdah:

@Dan B my name is even getting dreamy after listening....Srahmmmm
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:39pm Dan B:

Lol @12539, thx for coming along on the trip
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:39pm slawooy:

when i think of radio this what i meant thanks happy 2013!
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:40pm solarflares:

  Mon. 12/3/12 11:40pm Alicia Renee:

@uncle michael
sounds like you're chock full of gratitude for one helluva righteous relative!! *puts hands up for spectacular septugenarians!*
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:41pm dave:

god i wish i could bring myself to pull the trigger on that disintegration loops box. want want want want want.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:43pm Uncle Michael:

"his new cassette" is not a phrase I hear most days.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:45pm The Grabber:

BASINSKI set is : 9(!?!) Lps, 5 CD's and A DVD! for 225 bones.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:46pm steve:

its pretty impressive when a tape loop piece is instantly recognizable when covered by a chamber ensemble
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:46pm dave:

a freakin' bargain at twice the price.
Avatar Mon. 12/3/12 11:48pm Dan B:

@slawooy, thx! @solarflares, gratz! @AliciaRenee, yes, let us praise our amazing elders! @dave, I am trying to figure out how I can buy this fucking Wm Basinski box set without getting killed in my sleep by my wife. I think it will have to involve selling other records to cover the price! @Uncle Michael, that phrase is getting more common around here -- there's a real resurgence in new releases on cassette.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:49pm Uncle Michael:

  Mon. 12/3/12 11:51pm Alicia Renee:

Thanks (as always) Dan---dynamic show, but this Basinski (live orch) just hit some proverbial nail (i hadnt noticed was even dislodged...in my ear? ooch.)
* perfectly *
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:52pm dave:

a cynical me would say uncle michael's reaction is exactly the reason there's a real resurgence in new releases on cassette, but i'm probably just bitter that i have no way to listen to the flood of fantastic new cassette releases.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:52pm Uncle Michael:

I've really enjoyed the show, Dan....thank you.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:53pm dave:

not to belabor a point, but JEEZ this live disintegration loops thing is just killing me.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:54pm Uncle Michael:

@dave...ah, I get it...hipsterism (he said, derisively) and yes, this thing is a killer...wow
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:56pm Alicia Renee:

@dave i'm inclined to think similarly...tho i'll REALLY be impressed when some new hep cats start releasing reels of tape.
*that* is some non-portable & potentially hq analog...that will all degrade in time :)
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:57pm steve:

Uncle Michael - my theory is that the prevalence of perfectly duplicable digital music has increased people's appreciation for the imperfections of physical and analog media... you may know there's also a recent resurgence in vinyl sales, i think its a similar thing.
  Mon. 12/3/12 11:58pm Srah Bdah:

Night Dan! Thanks for the awesome music! Good to hang out with you via the internet radio waves.
  Tue. 12/4/12 12:00am Dan B:

Thnaks all! See you next week!!
