Matt from Springfield:
@Caryn: In America, it seems like the Bayer Science Minute--every week they have a new one, usually between programs on NPR and public radio. It's about one minute explaining a scientific principle and it's practical use to the typical listener. I like those but think not enough stations air them.
|
Sun. 11/18/12 1:47am
Matt from Springfield:
Sammy Davis Jr "Baretta's Theme"! FMU commenters have gushed about that before, glad to finally hear it! You not only have a bird, but Sammy Davis singing your theme song--that's slick!

Sun. 11/18/12 1:47am
Caryn:
@Matt: hmm, sounds interesting And can I say, this 45s set is weirdly appropriate for this weekend. Not only have I been on a 60s/70s' theme tune trip, but on Saturday, I also watched a music quiz, where one of the questions was about "Car Wash".

"Cyndi Grecco was an American singer who sang the theme tune to the popular 1970s American television show, Laverne & Shirley. Titled "Making Our Dreams Come True," the song (in which Grecco was accompanied by the Ron Hicklin Singers) was also put out as a single and charted at #25 on July 25, 1976. The song came out on the small Private Stock label (#45086). An album followed, though a second disco-themed single "Dancing, Dancing" failed to chart. She also provided the theme to another 1970s ABC television sitcom, Blansky's Beauties. Nevertheless, Grecco remains a one-hit wonder"

Matt from Springfield:
@MK: I'm sure there was a spin-off show for Chuck that didn't perform well. I was astounded when I learned of all the "Happy Days" spinoffs they made in the early 80s. Milked that franchise for anything of possible value, instead of writing new, originial shows.

Great source for albums and other events from 1976 : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1976_in_music#Albums_released Joe - play Be Bop Delux!

Caryn:
@Joe & Holly: see, my theory is entirely predicated on Howard being too much of a softy to completely disown one of his kids, but also on there having to be a reason why Chuck would not want to come back to the repressive small-town environment, and why the Cunninghams would not dare mention him again (in order to protect Howard's business and standing in the Leopard Lodge). Man, I think too much about these things...

Good morning Brian! I always wanted someone to form a band with one girl and two guys, called "Vera, Chuck & Dave". Guess it's up to me then...

Sun. 11/18/12 2:29am
Caryn:
I guess "Happy Days" and "All in the Family" are the US tv shows with the most spin-offs (if we don't include the various Law & Orders or CSIs).

@Joe: ...and now from Eno to this experimental German Cluster! Wonderful segues tonight!

Matt from Springfield:
Yeah, Law & Order, CSI, Survivor are all "editions" of the same basic show. Spinoffs would be a plot branch from another previous show. I was likewise amazed to find all the plot connections back to "All In The Family"--the NormanLearVerse, I call it.

Good job, Joe. I've lost the TV plot!!!
|
Sun. 11/18/12 2:34am
Caryn:
"All in the Family": 7 spinoffs "Happy Days": 7 spinoffs (or by some calculations, 9), and was itself a spinoff MTM is way behind with 3 spinoffs and a tv movie.
