You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

  Mon. 11/5/12 9:09pm A fish:

Love this song, love that album, love Eno. Hi Dan, hi everybody!
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 9:10pm Dan B:

@fish, shall I play some Marillion for you?
Mon. 11/5/12 9:10pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hi Dan and all the listeners.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 9:12pm Dan B:

@Richard, hallo good sir!!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:13pm A fish:

@Dan: Thanks, but that's okay. Hey, did the marathon counter move back to 99% or is that a secret?
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:16pm amEdeo:

Dan! People! Fish! Good evening.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:18pm buddy:

Glad you are back up and runnin' All quiet on 90.1 so listening over internet. great show great station.... I missed you up here in accord, NY
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 9:22pm Dan B:

@AmEdeo, hi! @A fish, I think it's not really a secret as much as a result of a mystery -- we need to up our marathon goal now or die, so how do we do that? It feels weird to let the counter go to 100% and then say sorry all, time to start again! But it's also weird to up it gradually, but I think overall a little less weird, so that's what we've been doing for a while. Basically, we were aiming for $200K, which would've held us if we'd had the Record Fair and no storm damage. But now we're out a lot of lost income from the Record Fair, PLUS unrecoupable costs we paid out to get the Record Fair in action. PLUS a bunch of gear here at the station. So we really need something in the range of $450K to get back to (ab)normality. But that's prolly too much, so we're working on it. Donations welcome via the widget!!
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 9:23pm Dan B:

@buddy, thanks for joining us!! Unfortunately, the WMFU transmitter has some weird power inversion/phase problem and we'll need to troubleshoot and repair it over time. But welcome to the stream!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:27pm 12539:

I quite enjoyed that last segue.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:28pm BDR:

Dan, you Peter Hammill, cause he's 64 today. If yes, curious what you'd pick to play.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:34pm Sarah Kabodah:

Nice vibrato from these Lymans. Hi brother! Welcome back to the free airwaves!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:35pm Mike:

I'm so glad you're still here.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:47pm buddy:

flipped you some dinars.... wish i had more. your show is one of the best. just isn't the same when i can't listen.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 9:48pm Dan B:

@buddy, thanks so much for the dinars and kind words!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:49pm mr h (san francisco):

super happy to see you guys are back to the radio waves!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:51pm shlomy:

why don't you restage the record fair at the bellhouse
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:52pm D in Miami:

Hey Dan! I've missed your show for a while.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:53pm Pruneface:

Love the Virgin Prunes. Thanks for playing 'em!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:55pm cosmic matrix:

when i have some $ i am going to donate, i promise! 1st paycheck of new job on its way.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:56pm mr h (san francisco):

hey the lumerians!! twenty points to bodah!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:57pm G:

The record fair consists of scads of private dealers from all over, many of whom who go to different record fairs nearly every weekend in different locations. There's no way they can all open up the same weekend on a few weeks' notice.

Knowing FMU, they will come up with creative ways to try to work on plugging income holes. -- For now, it's the incremental goal raising algorithm.
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:57pm D in Miami:

Damn! This is good!
  Mon. 11/5/12 9:57pm cosmic matrix:

and regarding sandy, i really don't hardly even know what to say in such few words... yikes!! coulda' been worse though. glad most of you are OK. holy shit. LONG LIVE FMU!!!!
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:00pm andie:

Hey Dan, always nice to hear you. Hope not too hellish getting there....too bad you aren't in neighborhood tonite...coulda come out as no school. and the fair Penelope...are you watching feed as you listen?
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:02pm Dan B:

@shlomy, yeah, we've been talking about that. We might try to do a smaller record fair sometime between now and Fall 2013, but as @G mentioned, it's hard to replicate the one we usually do on short notice. Which is not to say we don't appreciate the idea and we will probably try to do *something* along those lines if possible. I know it's being talked about.
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:03pm cosmic matrix:

wow those phase inversion problems sound funny
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:07pm Dan B:

@cosmic matrix, yeah, it's bizarre. Our 90.1 FM transmitter in the Catskills is doing a weird volume sweep from loud to soft and back again, and Black Francis isn't even sitting on top of it!
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:08pm D in Miami:

Good one, Dan.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:10pm Dan B:

@andie, hola! Nice to see you here. Hey, I'll be back at the Castello Plan next Monday with Flatbush duo Paul & Jody and Sardinian vocal group Tenores de Aterue.
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:12pm buddy:

sounds like yer 90.1 transmitter got 1/2 zapped.....sometimes half the power s as bad as none! I hope you get that runnin' fer all us woodchucks up in the hills. we need kulture too.
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:12pm Destroit:

hello Dan and everyone. Glad to be here.
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:15pm Eric:

I heard stuff like this live this summer in Sardinia at a street festival in a small town in the mountains over looking the sea
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:16pm 90.1 Transmitter:

Just think of me as a DJ playing a well-known 45 at 33.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:17pm Dan B:

@Eric, cool -- I would love to go there, I think -- is it interesting to visit? @Destroit, nice to have you along.
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:19pm Eric:

it's very beautiful country, people aren't as outgoing as Italians, amazing cheese & wine. I recorded the group there on a hand held, mp3 on my blog, not as good as these guys though
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:23pm andie:

Q is fine now tokings highway :)
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:28pm D in Miami:

Italy has some great folk music. I've got some recordings of these pipes called launeddas which are amazing.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:37pm Dan B:

@D -- yes, agreed, I've been stunned by some of the stuff on the Lomax recordings from Italy. What recordings in particular do you have of launeddas?
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:41pm Destroit:

Expo 70 never disappoints
Mon. 11/5/12 10:41pm dan in falls church VA:

Hello Bodah and Bodahians, I was almost through listening to The Brian Jonestown Massacre's "Aufheben" when I realized, hey, it's already the middle of Airborne event! Tuned in as soon as the BJM was done, glad I finally remembered to show up. :D :D :D
Mon. 11/5/12 10:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Driving to work the last few days without WFMU has proven to me that your dead air is better than their air.
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:44pm Ike:

91.1 sounds great, and Expo 70 sounds extra great!
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:48pm Dan B:

Thanks Ike, Ken from HP, Dan and all. So nice to be back on the airwaves!
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:51pm Sarah Kabodah:

Heading to bed so I can get up early to VOTE! Great listening to you Danny B!
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 10:54pm Dan B:

@Sarah, vote early and often!!!
  Mon. 11/5/12 10:55pm D in Miami:

Dan, I've got this Lyrichord vinyl called The Bagpipe in Italy from '78 I think. Some great stuff. It's almost haunting in a way. I'll have to check out the Lomax.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 11:00pm Dan B:

Playing some Yahowha 13 & about to spin some Amanar Tuareg rock, ZGA, Chelsea Wolfe acoustic, etc. Can I get an AMEN in the form of a couple more donations via the widget above in the last hour? xoxoxo
Mon. 11/5/12 11:00pm dan in falls church VA:

The secret meaning of Nam Yo Ho Renge Kyo is:

Now mah ol' ho run & git killed!

(Say it aloud a few times).

(joke direct from my erstwhile acquaintance Lisa Lyons.)
Mon. 11/5/12 11:02pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yeah, don't make Station Manager Ken cut the DJ's salaries.
Mon. 11/5/12 11:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

To cut costs, he might resort to eliminating their dental plan.
Mon. 11/5/12 11:07pm dan in falls church VA:

better the dental plan than the mental plan
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:10pm D in Miami:

This shows the transliterated titles from the cassette of Alghafint.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:12pm Pruneface:

Anyone else just lose the 20k Windows signal?
Mon. 11/5/12 11:12pm dan in falls church VA:

oh sh*t all of a sudden I can't get the stream!!

I'm getting this error message when I click on the 128kMP3 button which is what I usually use.

File: http://stream0.wfmu.org/freeform-128k
Code: 2 (00000002)
Message: Can't open the file

I suppose I deserve this for making bad jokes and otherwise indulging myself in the comments box.

:( :( : (
Mon. 11/5/12 11:12pm dan in falls church VA:

ok, now I'm getting the stream again. weird.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:13pm D in Miami:

I lost it, too. All good now.
Mon. 11/5/12 11:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The stream went out for me, too, for a couple minutes. I was afraid the earthquake had come back.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:16pm Abe:

Stream was out for a couple minutes, is back now...
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:16pm aniri:

  Mon. 11/5/12 11:16pm 12539:

Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 11:26pm Dan B:

@all, thanks for the input -- looks like the stream just dipped out for a minute and is now back. Phew!
Mon. 11/5/12 11:26pm dan in falls church VA:

Wow, the Chelsea Wolfe track is exquisite. (no joke ;) )
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:27pm D in Miami:

I heard her last week on some show. She's great.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:30pm sweet cheri:

thnx for an awsomes show dan,, g'night
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:33pm Ike:

As for hearing Prairie Smarm Companion on 91.1 when WFMU was off, that's the canned cookie-cutter NPR/classical WSHU from CT. They may need more direction in their directional transmitter. They always interfere a bit with WFMU in parts of Queens and the East Side.

Even worse, that Haitian pirate is still on 90.9 in Flatbush. :( Heard it on Saturday night.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:37pm mr h (san francisco):

beautiful singing here. simply wonderful.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:39pm D in Miami:

beautiful singing here. simply wonderful.
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 11:39pm Dan B:

@mr. h, sorry about the Sean Landers on the heels of YSC, I just couldn't resist
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:40pm mr h (san francisco):

ha! that's exactly why I come to wfmu!
Mon. 11/5/12 11:40pm dan in falls church VA:

i hope it's gonna be a long long time
before i hear this cover of rocket man again! lol
Avatar Mon. 11/5/12 11:45pm Dan B:

@dan in falls church: that cover was played from the following folder: Z:\Lockers\Dan Bodah\Unused songs from tapes -- in other words, it was *this close* to making it onto my marathon premium this year!
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:52pm Roscoe:

Chris Squire's Sweatpants:
As a mid-westerner, I understand Prairie Home Companion, and like aspects of it, for instance, Keiler's take on Lutheranism. Not a big fan of Guy Noir, but Garrison created a pleasant-enough little world and earned his success. It seems to play very poorly with cynical Jersey men of declining testosterone age.
Mon. 11/5/12 11:56pm dan in falls church VA:

@Dan B, whew, that was a very close call, woulda been a horrible thing to do to those who kindly donated to earn the premium. We all woulda forgave you of course.
Mon. 11/5/12 11:56pm dan in falls church VA:

@Roscoe, is Chris Squire's Sweatpants a new band or something??? lol
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:58pm Chris Squire's Sweatpants:

We're big in Japan. Really really big.
  Mon. 11/5/12 11:59pm D in Miami:

These sonatas are probably my favourite Cage pieces. Thanks for another great show, Dan!
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:00am 12539:

Dan, is that Nurit Tilles with an s?
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:00am Roscoe:

Chris Squire's Sweatpants will rise again!
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:00am Piano:

I wasn't prepared for this!
Tue. 11/6/12 12:00am dan in falls church VA:

@CSSweatpants, is Mike Rutherford's Sweatpants gonna open for you on the japanese tour?? :D :D
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:01am Chris Squire's Sweatpants:

Yep, they're just not as huge as we are.
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:01am 12539:

And o, thank you for another show.
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:01am CSS:

Bill Bruford's Dickie will be the opening act.
  Tue. 11/6/12 12:02am Ike:

@Roscoe, disliking the pretentious condescending smarm of G.K. has nothing to do with being from NJ. I'm a Marylander.

Great show DB!
