Dan B:
@AmEdeo, hi! @A fish, I think it's not really a secret as much as a result of a mystery -- we need to up our marathon goal now or die, so how do we do that? It feels weird to let the counter go to 100% and then say sorry all, time to start again! But it's also weird to up it gradually, but I think overall a little less weird, so that's what we've been doing for a while. Basically, we were aiming for $200K, which would've held us if we'd had the Record Fair and no storm damage. But now we're out a lot of lost income from the Record Fair, PLUS unrecoupable costs we paid out to get the Record Fair in action. PLUS a bunch of gear here at the station. So we really need something in the range of $450K to get back to (ab)normality. But that's prolly too much, so we're working on it. Donations welcome via the widget!! |

@buddy, thanks for joining us!! Unfortunately, the WMFU transmitter has some weird power inversion/phase problem and we'll need to troubleshoot and repair it over time. But welcome to the stream! |

The record fair consists of scads of private dealers from all over, many of whom who go to different record fairs nearly every weekend in different locations. There's no way they can all open up the same weekend on a few weeks' notice. Knowing FMU, they will come up with creative ways to try to work on plugging income holes. -- For now, it's the incremental goal raising algorithm.

@shlomy, yeah, we've been talking about that. We might try to do a smaller record fair sometime between now and Fall 2013, but as @G mentioned, it's hard to replicate the one we usually do on short notice. Which is not to say we don't appreciate the idea and we will probably try to do *something* along those lines if possible. I know it's being talked about. |

As for hearing Prairie Smarm Companion on 91.1 when WFMU was off, that's the canned cookie-cutter NPR/classical WSHU from CT. They may need more direction in their directional transmitter. They always interfere a bit with WFMU in parts of Queens and the East Side. Even worse, that Haitian pirate is still on 90.9 in Flatbush. :( Heard it on Saturday night.

Roscoe:
Chris Squire's Sweatpants: As a mid-westerner, I understand Prairie Home Companion, and like aspects of it, for instance, Keiler's take on Lutheranism. Not a big fan of Guy Noir, but Garrison created a pleasant-enough little world and earned his success. It seems to play very poorly with cynical Jersey men of declining testosterone age.
