Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Amanda:

Hi Wendy, BGZ, Listener James! I'm doing great, as my building is the only one on the block that got power back. Shhhh, don't tell the other buildings.

@Hurricane -- I don't want to talk to clouds on a sunny day!
  9:13pm
Skirkie:

Hey yo, Nazz. How're things?
  9:15pm
wendy del formaggio:

Glad you got power back! My poor Glenn is still without. Waah. Anyway, great to hear you on tha airwaves. I'm working on my new menu while I'm listening. :-)
  9:18pm
wendy del formaggio:

  9:21pm
Parq:

Hey there, Miss 'Manda, great to have you on the air. Wait. Um, you know what I mean ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
Amanda:

Hey Parq! Thanks! Hi Skirkie -- Things're not bad, considering...
  9:23pm
G:

Great to have you on the wire, kinda as usual and kinda not :-)
  9:26pm
listener james from westwood:

very sad getting up these past few mornings and not going into manhattan before dawn for the record fair. but surely not the only source of sadness in the area this weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Amanda:

Aw thank you, G.
  9:26pm
Hunter:

Stunning set so far, I'm dizzy.
  9:30pm
BDR:

Hey !YaY! what a nice surprise to tune in and you're here.
  9:32pm
groucho:

not heard this show before, liking it!
  9:33pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Feel free to utilize my information-finding abilities if need be.
  9:34pm
G:

She's on stream Weds 12-3 PM normally, groucho. What's the secret word?
  9:34pm
G:

Formerly a silent fundraiser. Now a sonic fundraiser.
  9:41pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Wow...Velvet Underground's John Cale produced that Necessaries track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
Amanda:

Necessaries also featured bass player Ernie Brooks of the Modern Lovers. I keep telling you.
  9:50pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

That Necessaries single was also the third record ever released by I.R.S. Records.
  9:51pm
wendy del formaggio:

This set is KILLIN' IT! Rock on, Nazario!
  9:52pm
listener james from westwood:

roger that. loving this program!
  9:54pm
Hunter:

This set is only getting better. Unfathomable.
  9:56pm
SteveL:

If it ain't stiff... well, you know the rest.
  9:57pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I generally have a weekly work meeting on Wednesday afternoons so it's rare that I get to listen to Amanda live. This is a super treat! And Therese's show follows, so this is like the best Sunday night ever!
  9:58pm
G:

Bet she picks up additional Weds streamers. Assuming (gods forfend) another stu--d st--m doesn't sweep us all into PA like so much sand.
  9:59pm
listener james from westwood:

ditto on the wed. work meeting, bg0. altho' i usually leave amanda playing very low volume, so as to alternately hypnotize and rock those also on the conference call.
  10:01pm
listener james from westwood:

i remember when this song came out, i was visiting a friend's house. the friend's much younger brother had somehow memorized "centerfold" and was singing it over and over. pretty awkward to hear "take 'em off in private" etc. coming out of a 5-year-old.
  10:03pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@listener james: Pretty much the only thing I can do while listening to Amanda is search for the records she plays because I want to own pretty much every one of them!
  10:05pm
chick:

Great show. can you tell me what's playing behind you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Amanda:

Just then it was "Electric Barbarella" (Duran Duran song) played by the Vitamin String Quartet. Glad you like! :)
  10:16pm
Christopher in Chinatown:

Agree with @BadGuyZero.. every song in this set is a gem!
  10:18pm
SteveL:

I KNOW I'm going to revisit this show. Please continue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Amanda:

Thanks Christopher in Chinatown! I'm glad I could help you celebrate the return of your electricity this weekend. SteveL, I hope not to let my Singles standards slip in the latter hours of the program...
  10:22pm
Christopher in Chinatown:

Amanda you're killing it! Lindsey?? YES PLEASE!!
  10:24pm
SteveL:

No pressure. Its just great to hear you back on the air. WFMU has been positively inspiring all week. Thinking the best for everyone out there.
  10:24pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I urge everyone to take some time in the coming week to listen to the archive of Amanda's show from a couple of weeks ago that was an all cassette tape show. It was tremendous!
  10:28pm
AccuWhether:

Amanda's FMU profile rising faster than a storm surge
  10:28pm
SteveL:

"My Girl Lollypop" would have been a very satisfying single to purchase. Pretty sure you could pay it 23- times in a row without trouble.
  10:33pm
SteveL:

Amanda: If you ever sing Oliver's Army, I want to sing the harmony on the bridge. Just want to get my bid in.
  10:33pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

This past June I spent a few days in Jersey City and NYC and got to catch an Amanda record-spinnin' session at Otto's Shrunken Head. That was fun!
  10:35pm
Rick:

We're still listening :)
  10:36pm
SteveL:

Earlier today, Glen Jones really felt bad about not being on the actual airwaves. I get that.

Amen indeed to safety for our radio family.
  10:36pm
Pencil:

LOVE my boy lollipop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Amanda:

Yay -- Rick, glad to hear that. Pencil -- me too!
  10:47pm
G:

Hauling out the big ammo now, huh? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
Amanda:

Hey, when if not now to get schmaltzy?
  10:48pm
G:

Yep :-)
  10:49pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Was that an instrumental version of "Maybe" you were using as bed music during that last set break?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Amanda:

You know it BGZ!
  10:56pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Good. Nice to know I wasn't singing "betcha he reads, betcha she sews, maybe she's made me a closet of clothes" completely unprovoked. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Amanda:

I'm beginning to see what draws you to this show.
  11:00pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Hee!
  11:20pm
jeff:

yikes, van halen, everything was going so well up to this
  11:21pm
G:

This VH was on heavy rotation on K-Rock NYC when I was writing my dissertation with a Walkman cranked late at night, in was it 1986... Go with the flow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Amanda:

Hah, that is a good story, G. My own story is that I've never played that song on WFMU before and I thought the singles show would be a good time to do it.
  11:27pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Wow...the sleeve for "Lady Sonia" is titillating (to say the least).
  11:29pm
SD:

that VH song was hotter than dogs*it back in spring of 86!
  11:32pm
listener james from westwood:

and the video for "dreams" was un-friggin'-stoppable on mtv in that time frame too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Amanda:

Can't deny the power of the brown sound
  11:36pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I hope "It's Raining Men" is next!
  11:39pm
Tom - K'way Bklyn:

good set and and nice to hear this Chilly Sunday night too... Schmoltz ok too1!! it's Free form
  11:46pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Are you tentatively back in your regular slot this Wednesday? Or is that yet to be determined?
  11:48pm
G:

Back to my years living in England in the early 70s, when the yobs were shredding the commuter train seats every Saturday afternoon on the way to and from football matches. Slade was their main band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
Amanda:

Hi Tom! Glad you appreciate the schmaltz -- it'll warm you. BG0, I'm 90% sure I'll be able to do my show this Wednesday.
  11:53pm
listener james from westwood:

thanks for the lovely bonus sunday show, amanda! be safe, all ny/nj residents!
  11:55pm
Tom - K'way Bklyn:

..I'm diggin' this all scratchy now... a LOT before just before the disco killed the funk kinda...
  11:55pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Ten-four. Regardless of whether or not you're on Wednesday it was a pleasure listening these past three hours. I'm glad to hear that you have electricity again and I hope that things get back to normal (as much as they possibly can) soon. All of you up there are in my thoughts. Take care! Until next time... :)
  11:57pm
Tom - K'way Bklyn:

I still like to listen late at night ,, just like I did .. ie... on my old Emerson Radio,,,
  11:59pm
Tom - K'way Bklyn:

Great Show.. !! keeping my Antenna up too .. !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am

Keep your antennae up and fingers crossed. Thanks to everyone who listened -- and special thanks to pledgers BGZ, Sarah, Isra & Christopher!

Brian in UK:

Amanda you got to play singles by the skin of your teeth (what an odd expression) Love! the Arthur Lee acoustic version compared with the heavy album one. Trust all is well with you as can be.
