Holly in NC:

Hi Joe! Was guessing either Association or Left Banke to start ;-)

Good luck tomorrow, Julie - Gaylord is a tough audience.
  12:16am
Julie:

haha thanks. I'm more scared of the storm than Gaylord.
  12:19am
12539:

Just be sure to not get stuck in the building with Clay Pigeon this time, much as some of us enjoyed the last time.
  12:20am
Holly in NC:

But Julie, you are the goddess of storm broadcasting!
  12:21am
Julie:

Hahaha. funny thing is just a couple weeks ago Clay said, oh I wish we could do that again. So thanks, Clay for kicking up a storm.
  12:22am
Julie:

wow what a cover
  12:22am
Holly in NC:

Joe, nice

Not Bubble Gum?

Has anyone yet the chance to check out the new 8 cd Millennium/Curt Boettcher box set?

Matt from Springfield:

Hey Joe!
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Rainbow!

Is that "Wasted" Roger Nichols the same Roger Nichols who engineered a bunch of Steely Dan records and built the early drum sampler?

Joe McG:

@HOlly: WHAAAAT?? Tell me more!
Avatar 12:43am

@Droll: Jeez, I don't know! He wrote a lot of tunes with Paul Williams and then I don't know so much. Let me know what you find out!

Hey, Matt!
  12:43am

ah I was just gonna ask if he is the Paul Williams one

Julie:

Twee before twee was invented?
  12:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Margo Guryan!!! I've actually heard of her before: "Sir Psych", who's released psychedelic and hip hop tunes under his own name, has also compiled digital collections of tons of obscure psychedelia--I recognized Margo Guryan from one of his "Gentle Paisley Pastries" comps:

Avatar 12:48am
Joe McG:

@JUlie: Yep, the very same dude. @Matt: Sounds like a nice project. I brought along a few of those kinds of "off-market" comps tonight, I'll try to get to most of them.
  12:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Julie!
Best of luck tomorrow with Mr. Pleasant! (You're right to be more afraid of the Hurricane, if you get stuck at the station, it's another Hurricane stranded on the Air, this time with Gaylord! ;)
  12:48am
Julie:

Wow she only put out one album until the 21st century
  12:51am
Holly in NC:

My comment = xtent of my knowledge, dusty groove has to buy & exystence has to preview if you have a spare gigabyte! Thx for Wendy & Bonnie...

Pidge:

Orpheus, from Worcester, Mass ... Ccan't Find The Time To Tell You. Excellent
  1:02am
Julie:

is there a difference between sunshine pop and bubble gum?
  1:03am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Good evening/morning everyone!
  1:03am
Matt from Springfield:

And The Pidge!
Be sure to research some sunshine pop from this episode!
  1:03am
Pidge:

Sunshine pop was slightly more adult oriented. Think 5th Dimension. Bubblegum=Kid Friendly. Ohio Express, 1910 Fruitgum Co. Bubblegum was designed to give kids something to like in the late-60's when everything else was acid rock and Vietnam.
  1:04am
Matt from Springfield:

BadGuyZero! Welcome to Sat night's Surface Noise!
  1:04am
Pidge:

Insanely good show Joe. That Small Circle of Friends LP fetches top dollar on ebay now. Just dug out my copy (paid $1!!) but I can't part with it.
  1:05am
Pidge:

Hi Matt and Julie!
  1:06am
Julie:

Heya Mr Pidge
  1:06am
Matt from Springfield:

"Will You Be Staying After Sunday"--a CC4 track, I believe!
  1:06am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Tina Cole was married to Robbie [portrayed by Don Grady, who was also one of the original mouseketeers].
  1:06am
12539:

Clay, are you on call for storm duty again?
  1:07am
Mike Sin:

Driving. Rockin'. Lookin' forward to Single File. Roll on, bro.
  1:07am
Matt from Springfield:

The Free Design!
  1:07am
Pidge:

Don Grady! The Yellow Balloon. Canterbury Records. Wasn't he Robbie on My Three Sons?

@12539 If duty calls! Julie?
  1:08am
Julie:

Don Grady wrote a long of songs for movies and tv later. I didn't realize he died this summer :/
  1:08am
Julie:

@Pidge you know it!
  1:08am
Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: The Mousekeeters appear to be little more than breaking teenage actors/actresses into the biz!
  1:09am
EAL:

Really great stuff! Thanks for such a good show
Avatar 1:09am
Joe McG:

@Pidge: Wow, thanks! I suddenly felt terribly nervous knowing you were listening!
  1:11am

Funny, while literally referencing bubblegum this is clearly sunshine pop! Love the Free Design xo
  1:11am
Matt from Springfield:

Biumvirate Storm Edition Part Deux!! You know we want it!! :)
  1:11am
Pidge:

C'mon Joe. My 15 minutes are up! Old news. It's all about YOU babe. Keep playing the good stuff! Julie, you too.

  1:12am
Julie:

This makes me want to get out the flouride
  1:13am
Pidge:

So Beach Boys ... in the best way.
  1:14am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I would support your position on The Kinks, EVERYTHING to include 1970 and after! (Are you bringing "Starmaker"? That's a great case for post-60s Kinks!)

Now, one case I would be Gaylord is the 60s Who--I'd even give my opponent 1971's "Who's Next", which I think is their peak, because I think their very best stuff was in the 60s.
  1:15am
Matt from Springfield:

@Pidge: Canadian 15-PACKS of Zima and "gage" rolled on Mojo mags! Only the best quality! ;D
  1:16am
Julie:

60s Kinks is outstanding. It's Gaylord who is being exclusionary.
  1:16am
Pidge:

Ever checked out The Fun and Games on UNI, Joe? You'd like it.
  1:16am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Matt: Very true. Tim Considine - who portrayed Mike on "My Three Sons" - starred in the "Spin & Marty" and "Hardy Boys" segments on "The Mickey Mouse Club."
  1:16am
Matt from Springfield:

Topanga Canyon--Joni and Charles and everyone in between. Great source of creativity in the late 60s.
  1:17am
Julie:

Tim was so fancy he left the show..as far I was concerned, seeing the reruns, Robbie was the older brother
  1:18am
Pidge:

I did the last math question wrong! No more Zima. Time to zzzz after an episode of Downton Abbey (Season II). Good work JOE! Love to all - always remember.
  1:19am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I agree, that's too exclusionary. Though I did learn some great Kinks I was previously unaware of.
  1:19am
jeff-m:

show is blowing my mind. wow, Joe!
  1:19am
Holly in NC:

Ooh! May I request Mamas & Papas 'Twelve Thirty (young girls are coming to the canyon)? Creepy sunshine!
  1:20am
Matt from Springfield:

@Holly: Yes! I like that one!
@Pidge: Queen Anne's Lace!!! :)
  1:21am
Pidge:

F--k! Q.A.L on Coral this is the s--t. A related LP is Pete Cofield on Coral (RIP) he wrote the "Big Red" jingle. Both LPs have The Power of the Flower.
Sorry I'm being a blowhard. You're just nailing it so well Joe.

Has anybody mentioned Andrew Sandoval with this type of music. i was into his podcasts for while.
  2:31am

Do they refer to the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square London? Or the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.? In any case I've been to both, and both among my favorite museums.
  2:32am

@KP: No they haven't. Did he post pop music like this stuff? I would be interested--I posted a link to online comps of this type of sunshine pop earlier in the comments.
