@Ignore Function: I don't think Funkadelic folks were members of the Process, which was very hard to achieve and required giving up all your possessions and living communally with the group. But they were definitely influenced heavily by the Process -- they quoted the Fear issue of the Process mag in the liner notes of Maggot Brain.

@daupo, thx! @Snortley, the quote comes from a great multi-part Rolling Stone series on Fort Hill & Lyman, and it's a quote from Jim Kweskin. It goes: "The Manson Family preached peace and love and went around killing people. We don't preach peace and love..." He went on to add that they hadn't killed anyone -- "yet." Several members, including Jim Kweskin, physically intimidated the RS writer in his office and tried to smash his tape recorder during the course of his writing the series.

Mel Lyman, The Process . . . reaching into my damaged brain cells and trying to recall how i first leaned about all this stuff!!! (maybe through "High Weirdness By Mail"? book from pre-inter-web days, around 1985 . . . )

@slugluv, yes, Best Friends has at its center almost all of the central folks involved in the first serious blossoming of The Process in the early 60s, and the folks who went to Xtul in the Yucatan, where the group really developed the core of its later theology as it shifted from psychotherapeutic program to religious cult.
