A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

hey.
  Tue. 9/11/12 9:39am still b/p:

The crisper air persuaded one to be less bare at breakfast this morning. And then a layer for biking marked a change.

Odd teen-age memory from 38 years ago goes with that last song: I was riding hunkered down and wadded up behind the rear seat of an MG midget (without the top open) while a passenger laughed and pointed out how the original sounded like "slap the baby."
  Tue. 9/11/12 9:43am dcp:

Morning all. Donned the first jacket of the season as it was actually chilly this morning. A chestnut colored leather affair with wide 1970's lapels and silk lining, underneath a peacock colored dress with a high asian button collar and brown sandals.
BTW - great art as always. They look like two friends chatting on the street.

@Cheri: GOD, I KNOW... The simple joy of actual clothing meant for zee grown-ups! Still a ways to go before we reach my sacred 54-ish degrees, but we're on the way. The fire giant is finally bleeding in the street! Gonna go kick him. Be right back...
  Tue. 9/11/12 10:12am Jennique:

Merci bien Troublette. But to be honest, I am like the Von Trapp children and have play clothes made from curtain material. What I wear on the bike is altogether different (and smelly) so I change once I get to work. Aren't you glad you asked?!?

@Cheri Pi: I know! I'm holding out for an Indian summer and no socks.

I may treat myself to a new "used" flannel shirt this year. the only one I know fits like a child's sie.size. I love wearing open toe shoes though in the fall as I'm doing today.

for all you Twin Cities folks out there: Took my partner to dinner at Restaurant Alma last night and it was REMARKABLE. If you need a birthday or special occasion place for your sweetie, this should be high on your list. And beyond the food, Willie Nelson and Taj Mahal played quite discretely in the background.

Trouble, I like Betty Lavette's version because it's very sensuous, suprisingly enough. Sort of like "if being a women means you have this sex thing, I'm all for it! Yay!"
  Tue. 9/11/12 10:39am Cecile:

It's still creepy, just less creepy.

I am starting a worm farm for composting my yard - I like your chicken updates
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:10am annie:

i think eggs are laid in a soft consistency, then they harden?
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:10am Vivian:

Soft eggshells, could be a sign that they lack calcium? As gruesome as it sounds, I think you can give chickens washed egg shells.
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:10am dcp:

man, cool chicken update. Keep 'em comin. My dad had to feed chickens as a kid and consequently never ate chicken--he hated those things.

Once again you have sent me to David-Lynch-creepyland with this song, I am a heart of a teenage girl. I picture the singer walking around in a Doris Day outfit, singing to her still beating ripped out heart held in her killer's hands.
Tue. 9/11/12 11:33am fred von helsing:

You should be able to get a bag of crunched-up seashells. The chickens naturally peck at them and get their calcium. Yum!
Avatar    Tue. 9/11/12 11:37am trouble:

we added oyster shells to the feeed, but i don't think it is calcium prob, since it has only happened twice since june. i think it's a fear thing. delicate creatures these hens...
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:37am common:

nice bottle playing!
Tue. 9/11/12 11:41am Brian in Uk:

Oyster shells or grit'll do. Try and take out any eggs they start eating to avoid bad habits starting.
Ours are still off-lay. I'm going to have a serious word with them next week. It will probably be 'pusillanimous'. I love that word, the right colour for an egg.
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:41am jamesie:

i don't give the hens eggshells, don't want to give them any bad ideas, put the egg shells in the compost. last weekend there was some eggbreaking and all the gals lapped it up, yick! my egg guru says i need to get some wooden eggs, to trick them into thinking if you peck nothing happens.

wooden eggs, huh..the stuff you learn on the comments...
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:52am annie:

i thought the wooden eggs were to get the chickens to lay more..
  Tue. 9/11/12 11:52am annie:

shows how much i know, eh?
Tue. 9/11/12 11:53am fred von helsing:

Oyster shells, yup. Truth be told, chickens is pretty dumb. Kinda cannibals too. If one shows blood the others will peck it to death. Then ya hafta buy this red gunk that you rub on the wound and it's super bitter and the others stop pecking at it.
