Listener comments!

  12:05pm
Caryn:

Hi Duane! And listeners!
  12:06pm
Duane:

Hello Caryn:) Always a pleasure to see you light up the board. Happy hump day!
  12:08pm
robyn:

duaaaane! finally got to receive/listen to your premium this morning. great stuff. thank you!
  12:09pm
Duane:

robyn: Aww thanx hun:) It was a lot of fun to compile. I'm glad to hear you dug it!
  12:10pm
Caryn:

Aw shucks, Duane. You got me blushing now!
  12:11pm
Duane:

Consider it payback Caryn..Heh heh!
  12:11pm
Cecile:

Hola, Duane!!!! Hola, all.

Now, I'm tired.
  12:12pm
Duane:

Hola Cecile..Why so sleepy?
  12:13pm
Cecile:

Type 1 (or Typo 1) last night.
Good instructor, but I could do without her apologizing for the "eurocentrism" of history of printing in Western Europe.
  12:14pm
Cecile:

And, being a sometime music freelancer, talking about David Carson, makes me want to slap people.
  12:14pm
Cecile:

she is a really good instructor, pretty rigorous, but jeez, it's bad when I come off like a super-conservative.
  12:15pm
Cecile:

Still, I got bonus points for using the album cover from Drums and Wires as an example of figurative type.
  12:15pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Excellent beginning to a wonderful as always show!
  12:16pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Duane for 2012!
  12:17pm
Duane:

haha..Carson is kinda like the Doors of Graphic Design. He's responsible for so many bad ideas.
Speaking of Steve Lilywhite..him too :)
  12:17pm
dcp:

You get a thousand points for that Cecile.
  12:18pm
Cecile:

Exactly, Duane. I can take his stuff in small doses - kind of like the Doors.

thanks, dcp.
I also used Aalon's Cream City as an example, and the 1st 10cc album.
  12:20pm
Duane:

Cecile: Cream City's so Dope! Thanx Phillip!!
  12:20pm
Cecile:

The cover is amazing. And the cover concept came from....wait for it...War's Lee Oskar!!!
  12:21pm
Cecile:

I saw a lot of great cover art in the 70s, Duane, and I think that is one of the very best. A real lost gem. So vibrant.
  12:22pm
Cecile:

http://www.covershut.com/cover-tags/Aalon-Cream-City-1977.html

scroll down to see both amazing covers.
  12:23pm
Cecile:

this link is much better:
http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=835116
  12:27pm
Droll:

All those covers are excellent examples of why "Great Cover" is a perfectly good reason to buy a record. And you may just discover the first 10cc album is forgotten AM Gold, pure genius album.

On the other hand, I cannot condone The Doors.
  12:28pm
kata:

morning !
  12:29pm
Caryn:

The almost lost art of album sleeves... sigh.
Hmm, maybe someday we'll have a WFMU show where the idea is to construct each playlist according to album sleeve themes...
  12:29pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I was so busy working, I forgot to tune in! Damned work. Hello, all.
  12:30pm
Cecile:

Droll, I picked 10cc because I have loved the cover and album for 35 years...
  12:30pm
Caryn:

People keep saying good things about the new Jimmy Cliff and Bobby Womack albums. Haven't heard either. Anyone here have opinions on the matter? Duane?
  12:31pm
Cecile:

I need to hear the new Bobby Womack, I've been behind.
  12:31pm
steve:

woo hoo, i was gonna ask about the Gibbons show!
  12:31pm
robyn:

it's next week!!! woohoo!!! i like prince language a lot too.
  12:33pm
steve:

i've never heard of this Yan Wagner before but UNO is a great new label!
  12:33pm
paula pc:

@ cecile -- a million points across the board.
@ duane -- keeping it UPbeat == very nice today! can't WAIT to get your premium...
  12:36pm
Mike East:

finally slow enough at work that I can actively enjoy the show and playlist. Great show so far, Duane. My head's bobbin' and my foot tappin'
  12:36pm
Dem:

Michelle Obama - 10
  12:37pm
Cecile:

thanks, paula.
That last song was copyright infringement on a plate.
  12:37pm
Jeremy Shatan:

The Womack is OK - Richard Russell is just not the greatest producer and it gets bothersome after awhile. Please Forgive My Heart is a great song - probably all you need. Unless Jamie XX gets his hands on it - he worked wonders on that last GSH joint.
  12:37pm
kata:

yes !!! the purple man arrives !
  12:39pm
βrian:

Chocolate with four syllables: yum.
  12:39pm
Cali Luv:

A little Larry Blackman or Roger Troutman could be in order. As always Duane, magnifique.
  12:39pm
Cecile:

Elizabeth...I'm coming to join ya....

someone get Prince a glass of water.
thanks, Jeremy. I'll keep an eye out on any potential remixes
  12:40pm
Cecile:

right on, Cali.
  12:41pm
Caryn:

This Prince is so good, it's like rich chocolate.
  12:41pm
Droll:

Cecile & Caryn, Pure album cover porn: hipgnosiscovers.com
... and I believe this is the Nth consecutive case of "unreleased Prince is somehow better than the released stuff"
  12:42pm
Cecile:

I love hipgnosis. SO MUCH.
  12:42pm
Cali Luv:

Hard to top those Ohio Players covers. Oh, and, Carly SImon's No Secrets.
  12:46pm
Oxnard:

I love the Roger Dean prog covers.
  12:50pm
Caryn:

Thinking back on how KG kinda blew the Prince vs. Temptations battle with his obsession with obscure Prince tracks, I feel that if he'd chosen tracks like "Chocolate" that are both awesome and obscure, he would've fared better.
  12:52pm
Oxnard:

For me, the song Sign 'O' The Times is one of Prince absolute best.
  12:52pm
kata:

Duane is this in mono ? only hearing left speaker.
  12:52pm
Cheri Pi:

Hey Duane, Cecile! & the usual suspects!
  12:53pm
Mike East:

agree with kata...only getting one channel.
  12:55pm
tim from champaign:

Cecile - Is it me or does Peter Christopherson get left out of hipgnosis history?
  12:55pm
Cheri Pi:

me too, 1 channel.
  12:55pm
Cheri Pi:

ok theres the other channel
  12:56pm
Duane:

got it fixed. Your love is in stereo now!!
  12:57pm
kata:

merci Duane.
  12:59pm
Caryn:

Gotta say, I'm loving this set so far!
  1:00pm
Cheri Pi:

Oh Duane! You know what I like.
  1:00pm
Cecile:

No, I don't see a lot of his stuff.
I hope the site is trying to remedy that.
  1:07pm
Phillip in San Antonio:

Damn, this show gets down with a riot!
  1:07pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hi Duane! Here I am for a little bit... My dad's back in the hospital, so I will have to split soon.
  1:08pm
Patrick:

Loving the tunes so far! Killing it
  1:08pm
Patrick:

  1:11pm
Denise in DC:

Hola Duane and everyone!
  1:12pm
Denise in DC:

Cali Luv, I can still visualize Carly Simon's nipples from that No Secrets cover.
  1:14pm
Cecile:

  1:14pm
Duane:

Hi Jan! tell your father hello for me. Hi Denise:) Patrick as well!!

  1:27pm
Cecile:

were your students pretty lively?
  1:30pm
Cecile:

my classmates seem a little timid. Or maybe I'm too wound up by the time I get there..
  1:32pm
Cecile:

I think ken should name his cat Sex Judas.
  1:47pm
Katya Oddio:

Fun to hear Mr. Wagner in the studio! Thanks, Duane!
  1:49pm
Cheri Pi:

Cecile-Agreed.
  1:54pm
Jan Audun Uretsky:

Sorry, Cecile I'm multitasking atm, yeah, my students are pretty into it... It's nice.
  1:58pm
Denise in DC:

Cecile, if Ken ever has offspring, I think he should name them Sex Judas. All of them.
  1:59pm
Cecile:

Thats' great to hear, Jan. Makes it worth it.
  2:01pm
Cecile:

Denise, he has 2 kids already.
He should legally rename them to Sex Judas.
  2:01pm
Kate:

That Etienne Daho was awesome! so is this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVtzQHaLmUM

  2:20pm
Jeremy Shatan:

Now, this I LOVE. Swagger'n'strings.
  2:30pm
kata:

omg work is so stupid !!!
  2:32pm
Duane:

Kata, working for a living is so overrated
  2:39pm
kata:

I'm this close to just walking out of here in disgust. I can't though. Wah !
  2:39pm
Jeremy Shatan:

This SWINGS.
  2:41pm
Duane:

Jeremy: This Hudson People track blows me away each time i hear it..this being #3495..:)
  2:46pm
common:

ah, the sanare 3. or was it snare3?
  2:46pm
LA Love HR Dept.:

If there is an LA Love Policy, is there also a LA Love Procedure?
  2:46pm
Droll:

Duane, Working to death is also overrated.
  2:49pm
Duane:

The mighty snare 3!!
Droll: No debate on my end
LA Love HR Dept: I think there is a LA Love Pump to help facilitate that procedure that is required!
  2:50pm
bb:

while i may not buy la, i love this policy
  2:50pm
LA Love HR Dept.:

Is it OSHA-rated? We have a lot of work-related injuries here. Just sayin'.
