Live performance by Clare and the Reasons (Bob Hart, Clare (Muldaur) Manchon and Olivier Manchon. Not pictured: Robbie Sinclair)

After two endearing albums of sweet-voiced tunes, Brooklyn-based Clare and the Reasons uprooted to Berlin to inspire their next release. Inspiration came in the form of their 1968 Schwalbe moped model KR-51s, which Clare, Olivier and Bob used to motor throughout the city they called, "a blurred filmstrip of cobblestones, trees, and graffiti." Clare and the Reasons then went to the German village of Haldern-Rees to record the album, "KR-51." The resulting music is a lush pastiche of Olivier's Paris conservatory training with pop overtones, Bob's secret mastery of Yngwie Malmsteen’s guitar solos, Clare's vocal upbringing in the Muldaur family tinted by her love of Lotte Lenya and Kate Bush, and the ancient/modern culture of Berlin. Drummer Robbie Sinclair then joined the band to round out the ensemble. Clare and the Reasons played live on Irene's show.

  Mon. 7/16/12 1:19pm Cheri Pi:

Damnit-I missed a White Stripes joke? what was the gist?

That Olivier and Clare have the same last name.
Olivier goes "she could be my sister. Like the White stripes!"
  Mon. 7/16/12 1:26pm northguineahills:

When I was in Berlin, even the stock boys/girls spoke English at the local supermarket.

Only people older then 45 were reluctant to speak English.
  Mon. 7/16/12 1:26pm Cecile:

I envy people who can crack jokes in multiple languages.
  Mon. 7/16/12 1:27pm Cheri Pi:

Oh-teeheehee :)
Avatar Mon. 7/16/12 1:27pm Irene:

Olivier and Clare are actually married. But they joke about the mystery.
Mon. 7/16/12 1:28pm Van in DC:

So Geoff Muldaur is Clare's father?

How big an influence was Kate Bush for Clare?
  Mon. 7/16/12 1:28pm Cecile:

  Mon. 7/16/12 1:33pm Cecile:

my pa tells me that if the carp eat the right kind of crud, and you stuff them with taters and kind of place them w/o foil right in the coals, you peel off the skin and throw away the potato and they are good to eat.
