That's it for another edition of The Dusty Show. I hope you enjoyed it. I had a good time getting out of the city and talking to people in a rural setting. Though I might not have seen eye-to-eye with some of the interview subjects, they seemed to be good people who were empathetic and concerned for their fellow man. Salt of the Earth. It looks like The Dusty Show has been renewed for the Summer Season, which is exciting news for me. I believe I am in my sixth year with the show on WFMU, though that hardly seems possible. Time surely flies, doesn't it? YES! I hope you are still enjoying the show's format. I have dialed back on the OWS coverage a bit, electing to give it more airtime when bigger things are happening. I worry a little that I have become to formulaic with these shows - that I ask too many of the same questions each week. This is something that can happen when you do a program over a long period ... without meaning to, it can become ritualistic and assume its own form without it being the intention of the broadcaster. I will strive to keep it fresh and to try new things as the weeks pass. Please share your thoughts with me on what you like and don't like about the show. I can take it! dusty@wfmu.org Musically, it would be easy for me to play my favorite songs, or, to play stuff that's more readily accessible for the listeners. However, I have kind of enjoyed picking out flea market records that I have little knowledge of and sharing them with you. That way we are both hearing something we aren't familiar with. Again... thoughts? I hope you continue to listen to The Dusty Show when you can. It is a lot of work putting these highly-edited shows together. Of course, it's also a privilige to have the broadcast freedom that WFMU affords a DJ. Lots of fun. I appreciate your continued support and loyalty. Take care and, until next time my friend ... I wonder if Fabio was talking about "The Killing" USA, or the original. Presumably the original. The U.S. remake is all bait-and-switch, stringing along viewers with false promises of resolution and endless red herrings, a la the X-Files' terrible mythology episodes that never went anywhere.

@Clay, no comprendo. Didn't Fabio mention "The Killing" or did I hear that wrong? I'm just throwing in my dumb unsolicited opinion like a jackass. @Glenn -- but I bet there isn't a different red herring in almost each of the first 10-13 episodes, LOL.

Checking in Clay, always informative listening. Caught up in a discussion about our own mess in Ireland, but this show is always great to get a taste of what's going on & how people actually feel - far better than any poll.

According to Tom Waits, in the movie Mystery Men, a Herkimer battle jitney is the finest nonlethal military vehicle ever made. If you haven't seen Mystery Men, rent it posthaste.

|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:22pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Seattle Dave: Clay edited in the polite laughter after that. I was going to write "ha ha ha, don't flatter yourselves, bright young people!", but it would be hard to fit that context in--this is a fast-moving show!
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:23pm
dale:
yes clay, i am such a tastemaker. seriously the show is really hoofing along and jammed with aural lol's and tmi's

Thu. 5/31/12 6:28pm
Listener Dave from Seattle:
Hard to believe that people still believe in trickle-down economics. Amazing.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:28pm
glenn:
so........ buddy votes for the right winger and thinks his life will get better? what a fucking moron.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:28pm
Caryn:
Summing up my thoughts on the comments board: the US version of "The Killing" annoys me, because of the wasted potential, the "X Files" mythology was pretty logical until they suddenly introduced that frigging "super soldier" crap near the end, yay for "Mystery Men"!, and seems like a nice flea market in Amercia.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:28pm
Matt from Springfield:
Upstate 80s Country!! | |
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:29pm
dale:
those are too rich for me glenn. i've picked up a bunch of baileys and a couple of sargents at yard sales and auctions this spring from $2.50 - $10. they all clean up nicely and make purty whisper thin shavings
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:29pm
Clay:
I want to do a Dusty in Paris, but it's hard to do on a vacation if one wants it to be a vacation.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:29pm
sfrances:
@Clay: Make sure to visit the Belleview neighborhood while you're there. Amazing street art, long history of resistance and activism, beautiful park that will take you up high for amazing vista and it has its own Metro stop.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:29pm
Clay:
That's it, Matt! | |
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:29pm

I'm actually astonished at some of the thinking behind some of the interviewee comments. Some people will believe just about anything.

Thu. 5/31/12 6:29pm
Cecile:
later, all! | |

Thu. 5/31/12 6:30pm

A "Clay Pigeon flies to Europe" series would be most awesome
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:31pm
glenn:
the best plane i've picked up at a flea market was a miller's falls. if you can find them, they're great planes.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:31pm
Clay:
Cecile, thanks for staying a while, and for your continued listening. Happy Birthday young lady. Minnie Moore.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:31pm
northguineahills:
I enjoyed that upstate country tune as well. "Clay Pigeon: European Vacation"
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:31pm
Matt from Springfield:
@glenn: I think that reflects what other interviewees have said, and things we've chatted about: for the working class, they've elected left leaning, they've elected right leaning leaders, but their situation never gets better. No matter who's in office, they always end up worse off. Eventually they spin off into either apathy or the Tea Party, if only because the current system doesn't help them anymore.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:31pm
pierre:
Yes Clay if i can be of any help regarding France, i'll do anything to help you out. WFMU djs / listeners must be treated with the best manners there is !
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:31pm
Ike:
OTOH, Game of Thrones is excellent so far. Apparently Clay Pigeon and I have more TV than music in common! :)
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:32pm
sfrances:
;) When I finish posting all my photos, I'll send you a link. Feel free to drop me a line if you want a quick list of what I ended up visiting/seeing/enjoying during my 2 weeks of Choose my own Adventure.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:33pm
dale:
i could tell you some farm accident stories clay. one person was chopped to death by a brush hog that snagged a piece of fence wire wrapped around his boot and pulled him in
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:33pm
Matt from Springfield:
LOL, totally can see a "Clay Pigeon European Vacation"! One of the few good remake possibilities for that. I would see that, as a movie!!
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:33pm
Clay:
Thank you, Pierre! You are a good man. Matt ... interesting insight. Are you wearing your mortarboard?
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm
Clay:
Game of Thrones. I like the little person actor, but I can't recall his name. He's the best thing about Thrones.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm
glenn:
well, most people couldn't give a shit until it's time to vote. you gotta keep on your elected representatives, or they get lazy.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm
dale:
is this focus in the background?
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm
sfrances:
Bonjour Pierre! Merci on behalf of all of us WFMU listeners! Just spent 2 weeks in Paris & it was one of the all time best things I've done for myself. Even saw a couple of french musicians: My Lazy Jazz and Arch Woodman. Everyone was soooo lovely and friendly even though I no parlais francais, je suis American idiot in that regard.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm
Caryn:
Now I feel like Clay should play "Holiday Road" if the European Vacation happens.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Clay: I only wear my mortarboard when I want to wear my drink on top of my head! ;)

Thu. 5/31/12 6:34pm

Clay, will you do interviews in France ? That would be interesting.

Thu. 5/31/12 6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:36pm
Clay:
Hi Caryn! Welcome. I want to do a musical tour of Europe show. I have actually done the research. Soon.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:36pm
dale:
glenn, i have a little millers falls low angle block plane that cuts end grain very crisply. i saw a new in box millers falls no. 5 for $75 but thought it too much. also saw a firestone branded plane the guy wanted $125 for. not worth it
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:37pm
pierre:
@ Clay : i think it's Peter Dincklage in the role of Tyrion Lannister. @ sfrances : i'm very glad you enjoyed your stay, a shame we didn't meet earlier, i love buying a drink to WFMU listeners across the ocean, trying to get the vibes of the radio crossing the borders. ^^
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:37pm
Matt from Springfield:
@Caryn: Clay can perform his own theme songs ;)
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:38pm
Clay:
I've gotten the 3 6's Matt. I've also done the math wrong more than once. That was the Donald, a little chipmunked. My tape speed is fluctuating. I'm riding the rate knob.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:38pm
glenn:
firestone? huh. i love planes. i probably own 40 of them.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:39pm
Caryn:
@Matt: hey, the Clay cover of "Holiday Road" would be awesome. With the rest of the triumvirate singing back-up.

Thu. 5/31/12 6:45pm
Clay:
I liked that too, Kata. | |
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:46pm
Matt from Springfield:
I first thought you said the "Artville Flea Market" -- what a name for a city's flea market, probably has some art too! Then once you said it a second time I looked up: Arkville. Not nearly as fun a name!
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:46pm
rob:
" Daves not here, man!" | |

Hey Brian. I can't believe Walker is up in the polls. All that Koch money flooding in. Kick him out. !!
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:52pm
Matt from Springfield:
Already time for recall? Best of luck to the recall efforts! And Clay, you have mentioned places in the Catskills hard-hit by Irene; though I don't remember if Arkville specifically was mentioned.
|
Thu. 5/31/12 6:53pm

I'm going to sign-off. Andy will be here soon. I'm hoping the rest of this show will fit in the hour. With cassettes, it's not an exact science as far as how long they are. Y'all have a really fun weekend and we'll catch you next time. Always remember. ClayPNyC99
