  Wed. 5/30/12 12:19pm Caryn:

Hello all!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:19pm Cecile:

hahahahaha
Any relation to Tracy Marrow (Ice-T?)
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:19pm pierre:

Duane !
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:20pm Jeremy Shatan:

We appreciate you, Duane!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:21pm Kat:

Good song! Ester Marrow sounds a little Janis Jopliny to me..
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:22pm Cecile:

I think I heard this on radio back in the day!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:22pm Duane:

Thanx Guys. Sorry for the tardy! Cecile, only you would make such random pop cultural references :)..No relation, btw hahaha
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:24pm still b/p:

My guess of the show's start time was off by 30 seconds. It's a very good start at whatever minute.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:24pm Cecile:

in the giant Husker Du game that is my head, I matched up the Marrows!

I did hear this - wow, this is a good song.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:25pm Nathan:

Good to have you here Duane! Today's food for thought: Apparently even Shakespeare stooped to the maternal insult.. from Titus Adronicus:

Demetrius: "Villain, what hast thou done?"
Aaron: "That which thou canst not undo."
Chiron: "Thou hast undone our mother."
Aaron: "Villain, I have done thy mother."
Wed. 5/30/12 12:26pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Hello Duane! Hello one and all!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:26pm Duane:

Hi Jan! Hope you all had a great memorial day weekend!
Wed. 5/30/12 12:27pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

I did, went to see my dad with my friend Scott...
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:28pm robyn:

guten morgen everyone. nathan, glad my sense of humor is endorsed by the master.
Wed. 5/30/12 12:28pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Nathan, that was obviously a favorite Shakespeare passage in HS...
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:29pm robyn:

or should i say, good morning, TO YOUR MOMS.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:29pm Duane:

I likes nathan!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:29pm Mike East:

All Right! Happy humpday, folks!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:30pm Caryn:

The matinee of "Titus Andronicus" is still one of the best theatre stories to think about. A bunch of pensioners near the front, obviously most of them there because, well, it's Shakespeare so it's high-class theatre and it's not going to be "like the filth on tv". Only "Titus Andronicus" is full of mutilation, murder, rape and cannibalism. And this version is particularly splattery. Once those old ladies in the front row had had quite a liberal amount of fake blood splattered on them, I think they realised their choice of play had gone awry.
Wed. 5/30/12 12:33pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare's first tragedy, and he wasn't it's sole author, he most likely wrote it in collaboration with George Peel...
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:33pm Jeremy Shatan:

I think my new hip hop name is going to be Tight Ass Andronicus. What do you all think?
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:34pm kata:

good morning Duane and everybody. Late start. Digging the musics!
Wed. 5/30/12 12:35pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Tight Ass Android Cusses
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:36pm Caryn:

I think all HS students should just get a copy of "Shakespeare's Bawdy". It lists and explains all the dirty jokes in Shakespeare. Might make kids more interested in learning their Shakespeare.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:37pm still b/p:

Record as a duo to rival Jay Z & Kanye -- Tight Ass & Ronicus
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:38pm Jeremy Shatan:

Now we're getting somewhere!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:42pm Cecile:

NICE!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:42pm Caryn:

Somewhere, a cannibal is looking over the playlist and going "Esther's marrow... Yum."
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:47pm Lem:

My Ford Escort can do 80 going down a big hill on the Interstate.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:48pm northguineahills:

lultz, Caryn!
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:50pm northguineahills:

Is the left channel out, or is it just me?
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:50pm still b/p:

I only gots one channel now, too.
Wed. 5/30/12 12:51pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

And the playlist is not updating?
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:51pm Mike East:

I'm stereophonic over here.
Wed. 5/30/12 12:52pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

They just fixed the channels...
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:52pm Nathan:

Speaking of plays there is a Dennis Potter play currently on in London called Brimstone and Treacle which involves the rape by a carer of a mute paralysed woman who then resumes consciousness. Folks have gotten upset.. but fail to realise that Sleeping Beauty is based off an earlier medieval play called Sun, Moon & Talia which involves a woman falling into a deep sleep to not be kissed awake but rather raped by the king after which she became pregnant and gave birth to twins while still asleep (sun & moon) and one of them seeking the mothers breast ended up sucking the poisoned splinter from her finger... they're stories people! I mean folks eat each others faces nowadays.. reality is by far more horrific sometimes.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:52pm Lem:

It's Quad here. Acapulco Quad!
Wed. 5/30/12 12:53pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Wow Nathan...
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:53pm Cecile:

Nathan, Sting was in the movie version. Never saw it. Don't know why I remember that.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:54pm Lem:

Didn't Sting do a version of Brimstone and Testicle a while back?
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:54pm Cecile:

The original Grimm's Red Riding Hood is really, really gory.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:54pm Cecile:

hahahahahahaha

Lem.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:54pm Krypt:

Hi Duane and listeners, enjoying the show even with the channel hiccups, the tunes are sooo good.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:56pm Nathan:

@Cecile You're right! After the earlier Ice-T reference your brain is officially freaky. I never took you for a Sting fan. Though I did think he was good in Dune.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:57pm Cecile:

I wasn't. I liked Stewart Copeland way better.
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:58pm Ace Face:

Whattabout Quadrophenia?
  Wed. 5/30/12 12:58pm Lobo's Stylist:

Duane, if you'd gone to Barcelona you could have fallen mainly on the plain.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:00pm Lobo's Stylist:

Duane in Spain ... get it ... heh.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:02pm Caryn:

I have the Sting version on DVD. He's actually really good in it.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:03pm Denise in DC:

Damn. Just tuned in and missed Eddie Murphy.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:03pm Gert:

Does he go all all Tantric and stuff?
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:04pm Cecile:

Gert, it was pre-Trudy and pre-Tantric.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:04pm Mike East:

I rode up in the elevator with Sting. He seemed snooty. Also paranoid as to why I was going to the same floor as him. "I work there, man"
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:05pm Jeremy Shatan:

Sting ain't a bad actor. He was also in a Mike Figgis movie called Stormy Monday with Melanie Griffith & Tommy Lee Jones. Good flick.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:07pm Denise in DC:

Something with Melanie Griffith in it was good?
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:08pm Gert:

Wasn't she married to Don Johnson? He had that specially designed razor to leave his tremendous stubble exactly 3/16" long.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:09pm Jeremy Shatan:

Don't hate, Denise - you've never seen Working Girl? Terrific.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:09pm Duane:

She was married to him at age 16 or something like that
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:09pm Gert:

And who was Melanie Griffith's mom? Dad was Andy, I think.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:11pm Jeremy Shatan:

Mom was Tippi Hedren. Dad was Peter Griffith, not an actor. Another great one was Something Wild. Play that Sister Carol cut, Duane!
Wed. 5/30/12 1:11pm Denise in DC:

I don't think Dad was Andy, but Mom was Tippi Hedren.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:12pm pierre:

Duane, c'est la crème de la crème !
Wed. 5/30/12 1:12pm Denise in DC:

And yes, I saw Working Girl. It was reasonably entertaining.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:13pm Gert:

Ooh. Tippi "The Birds" Hedron. She and Rod Taylor made a striking couple. I remember the nervous mother, Lydia, and the picturesque Bodega Bay. Why do the birds want to hurt people. mommy?
Wed. 5/30/12 1:14pm Denise in DC:

Damn. I've got to concentrate on work, and can't do it when I'm listening to Duane -- the music and the comments demand attention. Gotta go. Bye, y'all.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:14pm Denise in DC:

P.S. Big fan of "The Birds" here.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:15pm Rolph:

Duane, du bist wunderbar. Wo ist Nena mit meinen Neun und Neunsig Luft Balloon!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:15pm Caryn:

Speaking of fairy tales, I'd recommend Neil Gaiman's version of Snow White to everyone. Interesting version, and coincides with Nathan's Sleeping Beauty story, as it imagines Snow White as a vampire, who is unfortunately revived by a necrophiliac prince. You can read it here: http://www.holycow.com/dreaming/stories/snow-glass-apples/

@Jeremy: "Stormy Monday" is indeed a fine movie. Didn't Sean Bean die in it like he dies in every frigging movie and tv show?
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:17pm robyn:

all this fairy tale talk is reminding me of angela carter. her stories are great, too.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:17pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Night Moves (1975) directed by Author Penn, her first movie, and a great one...
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:18pm Tub:

The Birds destroyed my mind as a kid and I dissolved into raw fear. Shortly thereafter, I was on the roof of my elementary school retrieving a tennis ball. There was a nesting nighthawk there that chased me as it swooped and screeched. I entered into a state of bald panic and nearly lept to certain injury, but at the last minute I collected myself and shinnied down a metal pole to safety.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:19pm Duane:

Vielen Dank Rolph. Halten Sie schweben mit dem Düsenjäger
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:19pm Duane:

Night Moves is the Sh*t Jan! You are correct!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:21pm Rolph:

Ich leibe Klaus Meine und Scorpions, Duaneische. Speilen einen Scorpions beatmusik fur mir! Mach schnell!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:22pm Caryn:

Woohoo, "Night Moves". I also think Melanie is probably the only good thing about "Bonfire of the Vanities", because she captures the tone the movie is going for way better than any of the other actors do. Too bad everything else about the film is kinda crap.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:22pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Early to mid 70s was such a great time for Hollywood films...
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:23pm Bogart:

Philip Bailey's falsetto is almost as good as the Spinners dudes. Felipe ... Rose? No, that's Village People.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:24pm Supersoul:

That first "Vanishing Point" with Barry Newman was a good one.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:24pm Curtis [Boston]:

Snow White as a VAMPIRE!: GENIUS!!!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:26pm Caryn:

@Curtis: well, it does explain the pale skin, the necessity of cutting out her heart, and the coming back from the dead rather nicely.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:27pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Ich wünschte, ich könnte deutsch sprechen, aber ich kenne nur ein paar Worte, aber es gibt immer Google Translate!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:27pm Skye:

Cirrus clouds, so feathery and high-aloft. They are my favorites. Cumulo-Nimbus, with their dark, glowering bottoms. They sometimes frighten me. And when it hails, the clouds, they go green!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:27pm yayson:

al what?
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:28pm kata:

oh this is perfect Mr. Green.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:28pm Mike East:

@Caryn - There was just too much in the book that was left out of the movie (re: Bonfire of the Vanities)
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:29pm Caryn:

Incidentally, the NYT had a nice round-up of different reimaginings of Snow White. It's not all-inclusive, but it does have examples of most of the archetypes: http://www.vulture.com/2012/03/from-vampire-to-sex-slave-the-many-incarnations-of-snow-white.html?mid=facebook_vulture
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:30pm Lem:

I used to idolize Droopy.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:31pm DWARFAX:

No Droopy.
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:32pm Jeremy Shatan:

Yes - must get this rarities collection!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:32pm Rolph:

Weidersehn Duane und alles. Ich mus gehe im fusball stadium fur deine David Hasselhoff schau! Zehr gut Duane, mit der musik!
Wed. 5/30/12 1:33pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

One of my fav Green tracks...
Wed. 5/30/12 1:33pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

And I think Al is playing the acoustic lead?
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:34pm Prince:

Strange to think Al Green is only 5'2".
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:35pm yayson:

al green is six foot twenty and made of radium
Wed. 5/30/12 1:36pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

LOL
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:37pm Fact:

  Wed. 5/30/12 1:39pm Al-heart:

"And if HE were here, he'd consume the (audience) with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse."
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:40pm Jeremy Shatan:

I love it - we're 12 minutes in, let's bring in the horns. They get paid by the day, after all.

  Wed. 5/30/12 1:45pm robyn:

mbv. always recognizable. and not just for the shoegaze sound, they stand out from other bands in the genre as well.
Wed. 5/30/12 1:46pm "Birth" Mark Petrie:

Ever play Ambrosia, Duane?
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:48pm Duane:

"Birth" Mark Petrie: I love Early Ambrosia..i got a soft spot for that "How much I feel" song too, but yeah..You never know with me..I just might do that!
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:49pm Caryn:

Oh man, the "bolts of lightning" quote always makes me think of the monkey version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA7i9XoeOu4
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:49pm octy:

Oh my god- the man in the water tower tank! THIS is true art! Duane, you are hittin' on eight, on a hundred!!! Thank you!!!

Al Green Lantern
  Wed. 5/30/12 1:59pm Mike East:

  Wed. 5/30/12 2:04pm Curious:

I have always wondered. What exactly constitutes a "Northern Soul" song?
Wed. 5/30/12 2:06pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

The term comes from the kind of tracks that DJs in the "north" of England would play in clubs
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:09pm Audi:

James Brown Dance Lesson - Excellent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdz88MBWomo
Wed. 5/30/12 2:10pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

What a great Prince track!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:10pm kata:

oh thank you Duane ! fantastic Prince obscurity!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:10pm paula pc:

THIS PRINCE IS NICE, Duane!!!! Is this new, or part of an old NPG subscription, or something else...
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:11pm Duane:

IT's old prince. He wrote for Dale Bozzio
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:14pm Duane:

Dale Bozzio was the chick in Missing persons right? Yeah, that was the demo he recorded for her solo album
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:18pm Eli:

I'm late to the party, but that Funktionairies song sounded pretty far out!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:21pm Jeremy Shatan:

You're cooking now, Duane. Don't forget to chill us out before you leave...
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:22pm pedro:

i have to study, but i want to party.
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:22pm Duane:

Yeah, Eli. That song IS far out. It's basically about how Gay S &M parties in SF in the 70's looked like Nuremberg rallies and the similarities between the the Nazi fashion sense and gay disco fashion.I was a bit late to the party on that one too..LOL
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:27pm still b/p:

Cecile must be away or lunching. I'd expect a happy War cry.
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:30pm Eli:

I think Goaty really liked the Outlaw song.
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:31pm ioki:

i have to party
i must party
i cannot be late for the party
the party needs me
i must party
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:32pm Duane:

Eli: Goaty's an outlaw..I always knew it!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:36pm paula pc:

I think of Dale Bozzio as the Lady Gaga forerunner known to too few (except Scott Williams, a big MP fan!)
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:36pm chuck's cousin:

grill it up duane! just got txt that san antonio crew is tuned and diggin in!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:40pm Mike East:

@paula pc - she definitely had the stage presence. And she's right - nobody walks in LA
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:40pm Eli:

Goaty just walked by and flashed a switchblade at me
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:40pm Caryn:

Man, only 20 minutes left? I always think Duane's shows should go on at least twice as long...
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:45pm Eli:

This is tastefully done
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:46pm PKNY:

Not mad at this take on "Planet Caravan"!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:47pm Caryn:

I kind of wish "Dr. Goldfoot & the Bikini Machine" was a musical like it was originally meant to be. Maybe then we'd have more Supremes tracks from it. On the other hand, we might just have a bunch of Vincent Price singing... Oh hell, that would be good too.
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:51pm Nathan:

Morning Dew...
Wed. 5/30/12 2:51pm Jan Audun Uretsky:

Duane, you got me through another Wednesday afternoon in splendid form!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:53pm Duane:

Caryn: I remember seeing that movie on a Saturday afternoon when I was seven years old. The closing credits blew me away. What with the dancing bikinis and everything. Such a great theme song!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:53pm Duane:

My pleasure Jan:) Thanks for listening fam!!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:56pm Ari:

Heeey....I finally get to turn on your show and get showered with Scotland's finest!
  Wed. 5/30/12 2:58pm Eli:
