I wonder if those con women are making more in a day than they would in a normal low tier job...

finally went to the Meadowlands flea market yesterday after hearing you talk about it for some time. I'm sure there's a way to get scammed there, but we came out OK.

I got that deaf scam tried on me once at a pizza place in Newark "Deaf Education System"

My mom fell pray to a lot of those damn get-rich quick type deals. Don Lapre type stuff. Interestingly enough when you call these guys to cancel explaining that your mom is sick they are very easily put on the defensive and will let you off the hook.

I will take the person in for a sandwich if they say they are hungry and there is food in proximity. It's interesting when they say they don't want the food all of a sudden. I can deal with getting scammed out of a sandwich.

Would the expert say that men perhaps are more likely to fail to report fraud out of embarrassment?

Beware of products seen on TV commercials. I'm pretty sure slapping food choppers and stuff like that don't work nearly as well as advertised.

Whenever I get a voice mail or text from an unknown phone number with some kind of scammy come-on, I google the number. Often a site called 800notes.com comes up, where people report on the calls they've gotten and in many cases, they report various ways they've been scammed over the phone. It can be interesting (if depressing) reading. One seemingly new scam is somebody who calls from the 202 area code, claiming to be from the DEA and asking people to pay a penalty for buying drugs online!

Fun website devoted to taking revenge on those "Nigerian e-mail scams" - http://www.419eater.com/

I can't say I endorse what these guys do to the scammers, but there are some amazing amazing stories on that website

I was looking for work a few years ago and answered an ad in the paper for stereo delivery and installation. When I got there, it turned out that it was a company with a fleet of vans that they would send out to parking lots and sell home stereo systems to random people, charging "whatever they could get." I'm not sure where they got the stereos from, but after a day of driving around with some shady dudes asking, "Hey buddy, you need a stereo" I was so embarrassed I never went back.

"Save for Retirement"

possibly the most cynical ad I've ever seen.
