A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

today's art work is a print by nicole eisenman, made expressly to benefit WFMU. you can look at more prints available or purchase it here: art.wfmu.org

Southern skies are clear and beautiful this morning. Drive south! And good morning, Trouble and all.
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:11am Parq:

If only the grey outside could be this pleasant.
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 9:14am trouble:

o good , i need to remember the sun is always out somewhere! the first cut this morning is by an animator named alec cheer, here is a clip of his fab work: vimeo.com...
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 9:14am trouble:

why, thank you parq!
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:21am Nathan:

We're enjoying the warmest day of sunshine of the year so far here in London after suffering several grey weeks.
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 9:25am trouble:

good to hear nathan, then this song goes out to london!
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:27am Nathan:

I had just put that Bee Gees song on a compilation for a drive to Somerset on Saturday... without having heard of Robin Gibbs passing.
Tue. 5/22/12 9:28am Brian in UK:

Good day trouble, mid morning it was like someone turned on the sun now 30C. Crazy.
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 9:31am trouble:

that's me brian, i am thinking sun and i guess i misfired the heat your way
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:32am Nathan:

Brian, let's not over-egg the pudding. It's about 6 degrees shy of 30 out.
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:33am Nathan:

Isn't it odd that Lizzy Mercier Descloux not only wrote a song about tumours but died of one as well...
Tue. 5/22/12 9:34am Brian in UK:

Thanks trouble, I'll try & reverse the thoughts.
Nathan, my car just read 30c. Honest.

Analyst to patient: You are schizophrenic, that'll be $100 each.
Ah the old ones.

pas mal pierre, pour une personne qui n'aime pas les matins
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:45am Cecile:

Hi, all.
My husband had a succinct solution to last week's discussion as he is an uncomplicated man:
"If they are assholes and alive, don't give them your money. Don't subsidize assholes. If they are dead, who cares? Except for Hitler..."
hahahahah
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:46am pierre:

J'adore cette chanson !
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:47am emily:

nice to hear you "live" trouble. so much of the time it is only through archive. live is better--so exciting--don't know what is going to come next! thanks!
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 9:48am trouble:

hello emily! then you and I are now in the same boat!
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:49am Cecile:

that is an adorable drawing, but there is something a little twisted about it. My eyes keep going to that vase....!
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:50am pierre:

each time i have the pleasure to hear your morning shows, it seems like mornings fits you well, but i'm no one to tell, i love mornings anyway.

  Tue. 5/22/12 9:51am herb:

ooh, francaise is being spoken on this list...bonjour tout le monde. je travaille dans mon office mail la musique de DJ TROUBLE est supercool (someone told me that latter word was a biggie in france some yrs bk). and, if there's any german speaking people, i once told our teacher "ich bin ein amerikaneschen fusbalspieler".
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 9:53am trouble:

true pierre, i do like to do this show in the morning. odd...perhaps if we could just all meet in my kitchen while i was still drinking coffee and start the tunes from there!
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:54am Cecile:

do a remote!
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:56am Cecile:

Oh, I love this song. And Lee Dorsey
  Tue. 5/22/12 9:59am pierre:

That would be a nice idea, a homemade show, from each different room of a wfmu dj's house… with themes !
^^

@herb : "supercool" is still a fav word of mine. "chanmé" as well, which is reverse slang for "méchant" that you could translate by "wicked" in english.
Tue. 5/22/12 10:02am Adrian in London:

Morning all. When Trouble plays her birdsong records, why not get a visual interpretation of said fowl, with LEGO??!!! http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/gallery/2012/may/18/birds-made-from-lego-in-pictures
  Tue. 5/22/12 10:04am Cecile:

hahaha
méchant was also a line of colorful, boxy clothes sold at the nordstrom department store. I had a few pieces from them back in the day...
  Tue. 5/22/12 10:09am pierre:

@Cecile : were they wicked clothes?
  Tue. 5/22/12 10:10am Cecile:

Last week there was a Kusama picture at the top of the playlist. If you're in London I urge you to see the exhibition at Tate Modern. It's exciting and moving and invigorating, and the room of infinite mirrors will have you grinning like a kid for ages.

  Tue. 5/22/12 10:24am stu:

zoom over here in July! cheap flights to london (9 euros ! ) no need for a hotel or restaurants ...can't beat that, Trub
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 10:24am trouble:

just got sucked into the namesake by jhumpa lahiri, has anyone read any of her books?
  Tue. 5/22/12 10:33am Cecile:

no, but I heard the movie was good.
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 10:35am trouble:

wha? 9 euros to fly from finland to london?? crazzzee. why don't i live on that planet?
Tue. 5/22/12 10:38am Adrian in London:

Because then you have to pay an extra 20 euros if you want to take a case, and extra €10 departure tax, and your 'London' airport will be somewhere in the Lake District. Or France.
  Tue. 5/22/12 10:39am robyn:

diggin this vetiver.
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 10:44am trouble:

it costs 9 euros to take a bridge or tunnel into manhatta...

a (good) sandwich may cost 9 € in the center of Paris.
:(
  Tue. 5/22/12 10:48am patrick:

Tue. 5/22/12 10:50am Adrian in London:

Yes Pierre, but I've been looking at the cost of going to Stockholm. Fish and chips in a cafe, about €22. :(

  Tue. 5/22/12 11:01am Jennique:

Hey Trouble, late checkin' in but loving this Whole Foods Parking Lot song. True, true.
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:01am slugluv1313:

Shabazz Palace of Swords?
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:11am Parq:

Prounced "Kee-nya" I take it? I've actually eaten that, I just didn't know how to pronounce it. All hail the mighty FMU comment field knowledge base.
Tue. 5/22/12 11:12am Adrian in London:

@Jennique Don;t they just? At job interviews they should just ask you if you like Lego, and if any applicant says they don't, the boss should just say, thanks for your interest, but you're not who we're looking for.
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:15am Priscilla:

pronounced "keen-wah" for some reason :-)
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:20am Jennique:

Adrian, I think job applications should be filled out in LEGO. Possibly a self portrait in LEGO, interests, etc. There was an ad campaign back in the day for Eggo frozen waffles, where the slogan was LEGGO MY EGGO. They should seriously consider ads of Eggo waffles made of LEGOs.
Other idea, since I work at a natural history museum, swap out all the dioramas of taxidermy animals for Lego ones, see who notices.
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:20am coelacanth:

(& technically not a grain,but a fruit.)..(i'm pretty sure)
Tue. 5/22/12 11:23am Brian in UK:

Stand up for Duplo. You clever clogs with your Lego.
Avatar Tue. 5/22/12 11:24am trouble:

quinoa is the yummiest, give it a try. trader joes has it now. super food, hails from the inca!
Tue. 5/22/12 11:26am Adrian in London:

@Brian @Jennique Duplo? Only if you're three! So that's where Mercury Rev's Leggo my Ego comes from? I saw a great lego exhibition in Vancouver a while back, all about Egypt. There was a Duplo Sphynx, and a river scene in which a lego crocodile could be seat grabbing a little cat from the edge of the water!
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:27am Parq:

I would stand in line all day to get into Natural History and see all the animal dioramas re-done in Legos.
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:27am northguineahills:

Cool, and new Elodie!

Dang, it's a Flickr page. My strangely Orwelian work puter is convinced that Flickr will warp my mind and destroy my work ethic. If it only knew how much work time I spend tapping out missives to the FMU comment field.
  Tue. 5/22/12 11:33am Jennique:

Adrian: wow, that was a really clever Egyptian set up of Lego!
Parq: looks like I have my work cut out for me. If only there was a way I could sneak in a smaller Lego animal in with all the non Lego ones. A little subversive vandalism a la banksy. All in good fun. Speaking of which, I did get to see his installation in the museum I work in up close and personal, called withus/oragainstus. Glad the guards did not throw it out!
