You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Was it an April Fools joke? I'm still not sure.

Possibly amusing Eno note, for those who may not know: Eno's most recent day of tweeting (Jan 7th) contains a retweet of an FMU tweet about Eno...

"C. S. J. Bofop ‏ @Brian_Eno
RT @WFMU The 56 Most Vicious Put-Downs in Music: The Winner? Eno's "Fuck off, Wanker." http://bit.ly/YMBZr "
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:11pm 12539:

"...And when I got to New York I went to stay with this girl called Randi and fell asleep after taking some mescaline and had this dream where this group of girls were singing to this group of sailors who had just come into port. And they were singing 'We are The 801 / We are the Central Shaft..." Brian Eno, quoted by Ian MacDonald, in New Musical Express, November 26th 1977
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:12pm damien:

i like "Stoner (Twitter) Bodah". i can see him now, in his '81 Seville, blasting the Sabbath...pungent clouds wafting into the night from every window
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:13pm G:

Some say Eight Nought One is a deliberate acronym for Eno. You be the judge.
Mon. 5/7/12 10:17pm Richard from Venezuela:

This Burning stare core track fit perfect for this evening. amazing.
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:22pm dave:

seconding richard on the burning star core track.

also, this harmonia track reminds me of francis bebey for reasons i can't quite put my finger on.
Avatar Mon. 5/7/12 10:25pm Dan B:

@dave, ah yes, perfectly true! I have a Bebey CD in the bin too. Time to break that out, thanks for the thought!
Avatar Mon. 5/7/12 10:35pm Dan B:

Pretty amazing hearing these early staid pieces composed by people like Riley who later threw all these moves out the window and went with their hearts and souls - b/c there's always that hint of what came later buried in there somewhere, no?
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:41pm dave:

awesome...
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:49pm Ike:

Nice Cocteau Twins! I either didn't know this or I forgot it.
  Mon. 5/7/12 10:53pm D in Miami:

I like crackly vinyl sometimes. Good show, Dan!
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:21pm Droll:

Dan, I'm not so sure how to get from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to "I am the Walrus"... in just four years.
Avatar Mon. 5/7/12 11:26pm Dan B:

@Droll, the intrepid traveler can make it in 3 years!
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:28pm D in Miami:

I'll have to look into this album more. I've always been more keen on Djeli Moussa Diawara.
Avatar Mon. 5/7/12 11:33pm Dan B:

@D, definitely worth checking out Toumani Diabate. He had done a lot of modern-sounding stuff and ventured far from his griot roots at times, but his first record (can't recall name at this moment, maybe Kaira?) and Mande Variations are phenomenal. As is his Ali & Toumani album of duets with Ali Farka Toure recorded shortly before Toure passed away.
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:34pm G:

@Droll: One though would be George Martin. He didn't tell them what to write, but they knew he had the skill to help them realize their vision, even if they couldn't arrange for other than a rock four-piece, and didn't have studio equipment skills early on.
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:34pm G:

*thought
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:38pm D in Miami:

@Dan, The one he did with Ballake Sissoko is phenomenal, too. I play that pretty often.
Avatar Mon. 5/7/12 11:47pm Dan B:

I was very excited to find this P. Oliveros performance on Vimeo via the Northern-Spy Records website today. I was at this performance when it was taped for Roulette TV in the Downtown Community TV studio in the old firehouse attic on White St., and I have never found a recording of her accordion playing that touched my memory of this incredible performance. Relieved that the reality of the recording doesn't disappoint the memory!
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:57pm D in Miami:

That's great! On an aside, I've been taking a digi-recorder on my vacations to record sounds and I find that the recordings bring back my memories of those vacations almost more than the photos I took. It's amazing what sound can do for the mind.
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:57pm 12539:

Nice show, Mr Bodah.
  Mon. 5/7/12 11:57pm Droll:

DB, I did catch that part of the show -- been in/out of the kitchen listening all along. I just queued up some YT videos of the recordings you're talking about.
G, I'd argue Sir George took just as long a trip (figuratively) as the Fab Four. I doubt he heard them playing with Pete Best and said "with a harder hitting drummer, four tape decks, and some scraps of magnetic tape I could blow the doors off music with to Tomorrow Never Knows".
  Tue. 5/8/12 12:01am G:

Once the Beatles had "conquered the world", the only logical goal for them would be to figure out how to top yourself -- rather than repeating yourself and being a disappointment, undercutting your prior success.

You can't know how to get where no one's been. They were all feeling their way. But that process was driven by the general goal just mentioned.
  Tue. 5/8/12 4:46pm DeadCorporateEyes:

Hi, I listened to this wonderful program on Tuesday afternoon. wonderful, I say!
