Woot, Mighty Sparrow :)

Michael are you familiar with any of Wilmoth Houdini's stuff?
Avatar Sat. 5/5/12 11:19am Michael Shelley:

OD - no, but will check him out
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:23am other david:

Very old school calypso - from Trinidad but he wound up in New York too.

Actually it's his fault I got into WFMU - heard one of his tracks on the BBC World Service and couldnt get the track "Black But Sweet" out of my head for weeks - googled around, but there was very little information, except for a post on the WFMU blog, complete with tracks..

The rest as the say, is history!
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:25am pierre:

Bonjour Michael
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:26am Parq:

Michael, there are several Houdini tracks on Irwin's two Muriel's Treasures DJ-premium discs. I particularly recommend one about, and called, "Frank Sinatra", in which the singer tries to persuade the Chairman to partner with him in a calypso act.
Avatar Sat. 5/5/12 11:27am Michael Shelley:

Sounds great.... Bonjour all
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:27am Connie T. Empress:

Chirpee Chirpee Cheep Cheep! Mac & Katie chirping along on the Michael Shelley Show! In an island mood?
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:45am Wallace:

probably woody Bay City Rollers with this song was the first album I ever bought with my own money. In second grade. Love the plaid. Love it. Seed your lawn. Seed it.
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:46am Wallace:

I still have it, actually.
Avatar Sat. 5/5/12 11:47am Michael Shelley:

I still have the 45 of it I bought in 8th grade
  Sat. 5/5/12 11:57am clarke:

hey MS, totally oft subject, but i am finally reading Hartman's The Wrecking Crew -- he accurately credits dennis wilson, in his book. it was in an interview (not yours) i heard, that he made it sound like blaine had played on some of the early hits, too. the book rectifies that, though. also: didn't get to listen live - but, both Lowe interviews are some of the best i have ever heard, or read...excellent work, friendo!! xxxcm
  Sat. 5/5/12 12:05pm clarke:

speaking of archived interviews - one of your's that still HAUNTS me is the emitt rhodes -- any follow-up planned for the poor guy - hope he is okay?!?
  Sat. 5/5/12 12:08pm Bad Ronald:

Thanks for the new Nick tune. Reminiscent of "Gaijin Man"...
Sat. 5/5/12 12:15pm paul in FL:

Robert Johnson? They're teaching our children the devil's music! :)
  Sat. 5/5/12 12:15pm JValdez:

Put this kid on Toddlers & Tiaras!
  Sat. 5/5/12 12:25pm Parq:

This Buzzcocks track is, as Alexander DeLarge would put it, gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh.
  Sat. 5/5/12 12:26pm Connie T. Empress:

Def a number 1 hit!!
  Sat. 5/5/12 12:28pm Parq:

Miss Empress! Honored to be sharing a comment thread with you. Haven't seen you in person since you deejayed a BARC benefit at Union Pool years ago.
Sat. 5/5/12 12:36pm paul in FL:

  Sat. 5/5/12 12:43pm Boogaloo:
