Most of Lou Reed's best work and that of the Velvets went unappreciated while it was mint. The place to find it then was in the cutout bins. Later on, they were "discovered" by latecomers.

Though they are thin on the ground any more, back in the 80s there were people who claimed to be Trevor Rabin-era Yes fans who didn't know or care about the 70s material. (And many 70s fans who were extremely hostile to the 80s material.)
