Listener comments!

Mon. 4/16/12 11:33am Call Me Dolores Like They Do In The Stories:

Hello mess of Jeffs. Quick in & out today. To a gig (is that short for giggle?). Jeff G, really enjoyed 'The Easter Parade' by Yates. Name change due to forseen circumstances.
  Mon. 4/16/12 11:42am Jeff G:

Thanks for the stop-by, Dolores! Glad you dug the book. Will try to think of something cheerier for next time...
Mon. 4/16/12 11:57am Alf from Upstate:

Welcome back, Destination Out!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 11:58am Jeff G:

Thanks, Alf! Always a pleasure.
Mon. 4/16/12 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

good monday jeff and jeff and happy d:o day to all!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:01pm Jeff G:

Hey, ljfw -- great to see/hear/read you.
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:04pm Doug S.:

You know what that say, those that can, D:O; those that can't teach.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:07pm Jeff G:

Adam Lane, incidentally, teaches music at my kid's elementary school.
Mon. 4/16/12 12:07pm listener james from westwood:

as marathons go, 3 hours of jazz is all the running i'll be doing today!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:08pm Jeff G:

Certainly an easier way to beat the heat. Will also be trying to heat the beat.
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:15pm Doug S.:

Adam Rudolph, incidentally, went to my wife's high school.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:17pm Jeff G:

It all connects.
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:20pm Doug S.:

In high school, Adam dated (briefly) a dear friend of ours whose mother was a sort of godmother to the AACM. She drove musicians to gigs, put up posters and distributed flyers, got them radio airplay and helped with legal matters in getting the organization incorporated. I blogged about her here: http://bit.ly/ISoaCd
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:26pm Jeff G:

In high school, my friend Eric's mom got us gigs collecting coats and serving drinks at fancy parties.
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:45pm ASNB:

In high school my friend Parsons and I used to detail cars. We started getting calls for luxury sports cars. I couldn't drive stick so I remember burning the clutch on a Porsche 911. It stunk. But I did use cue tips to clean out the air vents.
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:46pm ASNB:

stone/water is one of my favorites of this type of music.
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:48pm Doug S.:

After high school, I went on to college, but my best friend stayed home to play in a rock band. It became extremely popular in the DC area and played clubs and toured the East Coast regularly. My friend's mom worked the T-shirts and records table in the lobby at dozen of their shows.

Happy early Mother's Day, everyone.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:53pm Jeff G:

My mom loves this song.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 12:53pm Jeff G:

(Probably not true.)
  Mon. 4/16/12 12:57pm ASNB:

my 3 year old just said she likes it because of the violin sounds and it sounds like arguing, and she likes arguing
Mon. 4/16/12 1:03pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Jeffs and all the listeners.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 1:07pm Jeff G:

'ola, Richard!
Mon. 4/16/12 1:13pm Dan in Seattle:

I love this South African-related stuff.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 1:13pm Jeff G:

Yeah, Dan, absolutely some of our favorite music of all time.
  Mon. 4/16/12 1:18pm Doug S.:

Yah yah, me too. I just got the new Ogun release of the Blue Notes' live '79 performance in Belgium. Makes me want to cry. No really. Like a baby. A happy baby.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 1:22pm Jeff G:

Wouldn't want to follow this crew in concert...
  Mon. 4/16/12 1:25pm ASNB:

so where does this signal originate? at wfmu? where are all involved? and what is the give the drummer some stream? just curious to put the pieces together.
  Mon. 4/16/12 1:28pm Hugo:

There's an incendiary version of "Funk Dem Dudu" on the BN 79 release. Ought to be played on the radio/stream (hint...)
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 1:29pm Jeff G:

We at D:O are still saving our pennies for that collection... (but noted, Hugo!)
  Mon. 4/16/12 1:35pm Doug Schulkind:

@ASNB
This stream, Give the Drummer Radio, is one of several "alternate" streams hosted by WFMU. I started the stream in 2010 as a means for continuing to broadcast my radio show after moving to Pittsburgh. The server for the stream is housed at WFMU, but I control the software remotely from Pittsburgh. Once I got my show established on the stream, I began inviting other music obsessives to do radio programs on it with me.

You can see a schedule here: http://wfmu.org/table?period=7115

When radio shows aren't airing on the stream, it "plays" a round-the-clock flow of music of all kinds that I curate for it.
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:04pm ASNB:

That's great and industrious, Doug! So where is Jeff?
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:05pm Jeff G:

Why, I'm right here!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:06pm Jeff G:

(Brooklyn, NY.)
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:11pm Hugo:

As far as big bands go, this must have been one of the biggest!

Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:15pm Jeff G:

Oh good.

This band always seemed pretty big to us: en.wikipedia.org...
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:16pm Doug Schulkind:

I played a C. Bobo Shaw track on my show in '07 and his daughter Myah contacted me requesting a copy of the record.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:19pm Jeff G:

I went to high school with Bobo Shaw's mother.
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:21pm ASNB:

I'll tell him that. I didn't think his daughters wanted anything to do with him. Which record? Here's the most recent picture of him http://eremite.com/news
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:24pm Jeff G:

(Mind, I was joking re h.s.)
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:25pm ASNB:

Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:26pm Jeff G:

(On the internet, no one knows when you laugh!)
(Glad to hear it, tho.)
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:27pm Jeff G:

One of my great regrets is missing the Little Huey Orch here in NYC. Actually, I think I missed multiple chances...
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:27pm ASNB:

"simple like frost melting off a window" (or something close)
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:28pm ASNB:

  Mon. 4/16/12 2:31pm ASNB:

Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:33pm Doug Schulkind:

@ASNB
That photo of CBS at Eremite's site has a link to a 4-star Downbeat review of their Aboriginal Music box. The author of that review write a niece piece about WFMU's Mining the Audio Motherlode here: bit.ly...

Had any contact with Steve Rowland, recently, ASNB?
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:35pm Jeff G:

I think I just picked the music for my funeral.
  Mon. 4/16/12 2:37pm earwax:

Listening on and off today because The Man is keeping me busy, but it's a great show as always. This one of favorite WP cuts.
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 2:44pm Dervish:

I remember getting my copy of "Ming" through the old catalog from New Music Distribution Service. NMDS was heaven.
Mon. 4/16/12 3:00pm listener james from westwood:

much appreciated, lads! enjoy the rest of april!
Avatar Mon. 4/16/12 3:01pm Jeff G:
