You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

  Mon. 3/19/12 9:17pm Marmalade kitty:

what is soundtap, forgive me! I know nothing of current trends and such like
Mon. 3/19/12 9:18pm Richard from Venezuela:

@Marmalade: from wfmu's twitter: WFMU is about to be knocked out of this best non-commercial radio contest. Dont let it happen! Log in / listen at http://t.co/SBTjOozv
Mon. 3/19/12 9:21pm diane in tokyo:

It's the first time I've heard of Soundtap- looks interesting
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:21pm Andrew Waterloo:

I'm sound tapping right now
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:22pm Roberto:

Ferkakte site won't let me sign up. Tried 3 browsers, nada.

Mon. 3/19/12 9:24pm Richard from Venezuela:

this link?: http://soundtap.com/madness
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:24pm Roberto:

Must be an anti-FMU conspiracy.

Doing laundry at the 'mat and jamming to the show on my fm Walkman. Digging the tunes
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:26pm pp newtape:

listen to wfmu just for one more day through soundtap and then we,mat get through to the next round. at the moment we only have listening through soundtap and our competitor has 12 listeners so wfmu is losing. help us, ie wfmu win and become more well known.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:26pm Richard from Venezuela:

@Marmalade: http://soundtap.com/wfmu
Mon. 3/19/12 9:28pm Richard from Venezuela:

Sign up and listen. Wfmu should win this tournament!!
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:30pm Andrew Waterloo:

It is kind of tough though. You know WFMU listeners show up at Soundtap and they're first thought is... hmm.. other stuff to listen to
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:30pm Marmalade kitty:

Hi Dan, ..what's happening? :)
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:31pm Marmalade kitty:

Radio war!
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 9:32pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

Hi all! Soundtap has a competition going on between 64 of what they think are the best non-commercial stations in the country. They are ranking the stations based on how many people spend how much time listening online through their site. WFMU knew nothing of this until it started. They pitted us today against WOBC, Oberlin College's freeform station. We are losing, I think! Which feels weird for me, because I first did a radio show at WOBC, for 2.5 years from 1994-1996.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:32pm mike noble in dc:

anyone else find it suspicious how wfmu lead by double digits all day and within just a few hours we've fallen back by 25 hours?
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:33pm tomasz.:

the number seems to be permanently stuck at 4. like, it was 4 before i registered and it was also 4 after i started listening. not sure what that's about :-/
Mon. 3/19/12 9:33pm chad from oregon:

hmmrph. it looks like I've already maxed out my 90 minutes of WFMU listening from the gizmo.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:33pm mike noble in dc:

shenanigans! or could it be the obc double agents at WFMU?
Mon. 3/19/12 9:33pm diane in tokyo:

@Andrew- true true! I'm looking forward to checking it out...
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:33pm Marmalade kitty:

I say fuck 'em! :)
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:34pm 12539:

I have never rated wfmu by the number of listeners, and I'm not about to start.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:35pm mike noble in dc:

and why is no other station even coming close to WFMU and WOBC numbers? could this be driven by a secret cabal of WFMU haters?
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:35pm pp newtape:

i think the main issue with soundtap is that the other stations are all college radios so all the on campus students or just the students all tune in and support their own station all the time so they have a fairly consistent large base of listeners whereas wfmu listeners are so divergent and global and at different timezones and working and weirding and waiting and this wobc college.. we know wfmu is the best anyway. and the only true independent freeform etc etc.
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 9:35pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

Jesse Jarnow and Doug Schulkind from WFMU also first did radio at WOBC. It's a great station -- worth checking out (some other time when I'm not on air).
Mon. 3/19/12 9:35pm Tom - In Gravesend Brooklyn:

Orgasmatron NOTHING LIKE the original of cause Motor******HEad !!!!!!
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:35pm sinister d.:

i fuckin love Motorhead
Mon. 3/19/12 9:36pm mike noble in dc:

i don't know about your college stations but 99% of the population of my alma mater couldn't give a shit about college radio.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:36pm Richard from Venezuela:

this set is perfect
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:36pm steve:

i think some of those computer music majors at oberlin must've done something sneaky...
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:38pm Andrew Waterloo:

The other thing is, for me to listen to WFMU I just load up my mp3 player and click on the playlist item. Usually by the time I get the website I'm already at least 10-15 minutes into my session.
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:38pm jj james:

kdvs the best freeform station ever, sorry wfmu
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 9:40pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

WFMU and KDVS are like BFFs, so no need to apologize (even though we are actually the best)
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:40pm PB:

To change the subject, in case you missed it DB, the February issue of Uncut magazine (CCR on the cover) had a short article on The Necks.
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 9:41pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@PB, didn't see that. Good article?
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:42pm HotRod:

I'm listening via http://soundtap.com/madness and I'm feeling this Oneida track. Thanks Dan! ;)
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:42pm PB:

Short but good.
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:42pm G:

I can't get a listening or signup page to load at that soundtap site, and I'm not exactly tech-incompetent. Is it overloaded?
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:43pm jj james:

wfmu = elitist snobs......kdvs rules
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:44pm D in Miami:

Same here. No sign-up. Nothing. Pretty useless site, it seems.
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:44pm sinister d.:

hey HotRod ^_^
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:46pm Marmalade kitty:

:) wait til the comp is over, see how many students bother to listen to their respective stations.. wfmu true balance will prevail.. I'm not sure about this competition :/
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:46pm PB:

How was the Lee Ranaldo? Always loved his guitar playing (needless to say) and always liked his voice. CD release date is tomorrow, isn't it?
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:47pm tomasz.:

jjj, what are you on about? nothing remotely elitist about this station
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:48pm Marmalade kitty:

In the mean time though, good that students are feeling passionate about music!
Mon. 3/19/12 9:51pm mike noble in dc:

jj james -- trade you some kdvs listens for wfmu listens. we both could use the help.
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:51pm Ike:

@Mike Noble@9:36, that was my experience too, and that was in the *90s* when there was less competition -- very little or no Internet radio, etc.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:51pm diane in tokyo:

@tomasz- maybe we're so elite we just didn't notice
Mon. 3/19/12 9:52pm mike noble in dc:

hey maybe that's the ticket... we need to team up with a station in another bracket and share listens. kinda like how baseball teams in different leagues will have a joint ticket to get the last guy on the all star squads.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:53pm mike noble in dc:

i'm listening to kdvs for the first time right now. sorry mr. bodah.
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:54pm R I S K Y:

Go Dan!
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:54pm HotRod:

hello! sinister d. ;)
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:56pm steve:

phil collins at the wrong speed 4 eva
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:57pm Destroit:

Spacemen 3, awesome track.
  Mon. 3/19/12 9:58pm PB:

Phil Collins - what the aforementioned 99% listens to, Spacemen 3 - what the "elitist" 1% listens to.
Mon. 3/19/12 9:59pm Jeff in bklyn:

I always knew you'd play phil Collins on yr show, Dan Bodah.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:00pm PB:

Speaking of Spacemen 3, has anyone heard the Wooden Shjips remix that Sonic Boom did? Amazing stuff.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:01pm jt:

the soundtap signup was definitely having problems earlier today. the javascript was dumping messages to the console which was interesting, but it appeared the server was botched.
anyway, now that i'm off the road i'm listening for credit. oh and some nice psychedelic horseshit now?
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:02pm jt:

oh no shjips. anyway i love this blasted guitar
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:02pm Marmalade kitty:

listening via my ears :) happily.. @G, I was having the same difficulty, limited website.. Non comercial stations should help one another, like wfmu-kusf not scrap..
Mon. 3/19/12 10:04pm Dan from Toronto:

Sounds great, Dan!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:04pm steve:

i keep seeing the name Sonic Boom and assumed it was a campy chiptune project because of the possible Street Fighter 2 reference of the name. guess i gotta check it out now!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:05pm joe:

'ello folks
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:06pm joe:

STill can't get into soundtap
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 10:06pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@Jeff, oh, I'm not above a little Collins-loving.
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 10:07pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@Marmalade Kitty, amen!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:08pm joe:

Phil Collins and Spaceman 3 what the Crackpot and Kook .3275 WFMU audience listen to.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:08pm Kurt V:

Hi :-)
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:09pm Kurt V:

Phill can hit the skins
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:09pm damien:

@DJ - I really think that you, of all the DJs, owe your audience some kind of f-ed up "Bye Bye, Miss American Pie" mash up!

Just a suggestion....
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:10pm jt:

@joe just keep hitting submit, eventually it will take

@kurt v yeah i never liked phil c but heard an old prog era genesis track recently and was astounded at what a good drummer he is
Mon. 3/19/12 10:10pm Richard from Venezuela:

Airborne Event in the top of the charts tonight on Soundtap: http://soundtap.com/
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:10pm Andrew Waterloo:

The Killdozer version and the Madonna version beat matched?
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 10:12pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@Kurt V/jt - it's true, the man knows his way around a drum kit. There's a reason he was hired into Genesis, was tapped for drums on Eno's Another Green World, etc. @damien, hurm...
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:12pm Barkevious Shabazz:

KDVS-thank god SOMEONE is giving 24 hour news coverage to pepperspray incidents.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:12pm Andrew Waterloo:

Seven That Spells is pretty awesome too
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:13pm joe:

I'll keep trying thanks jt
Mon. 3/19/12 10:17pm mike noble in dc:

sad that PC may never drum again.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:19pm Andrew Waterloo:

Remember that time he competed against Buddy Rich on the Muppet Show... no wait.. that was Animal.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:23pm G:

Phil's another piece of evidence that the British Invasion really started bubbling under in theater before it came out in the open in music. Davy Jones was a young stage actor in London before becoming a Monkee. Phil Collins' first big break as as child actor was as the Artful Dodger in the original early-60s London production of _Oliver!_
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:26pm brycepunk:

This Seven That Spells is fantastic! Thank you for introducing me to this.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:26pm Marmalade kitty:

@G, Charlie Chaplin Stan Laurel & co
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 10:30pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@brycepunk, new to me too, but damn that Seven That Spells was something!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:30pm Destroit:

Yeah, my first listen to seven that spells as well. Crazy.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:32pm jt:

this was the second time recently that i wrote a note for myself: must get seven that spells
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:33pm Marmalade kitty:

Dan, sometimes you sound like Jim morrison :D to me
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

I've been to that Isoldmysoultodestroyrockandroll website but could never find the PFC
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:36pm joe:

because I can't....AHHHHHHH :)
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:37pm jt:

we can walk together why can't we rock together!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:39pm PB:

DB, that Wooden Shjips track was unbelievable. I take it that white label vinyl release is not exactly readily available.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:39pm G:

@MK: At half past blue o clock in the morning (UK time), many guys sound kinda like Jim Morrison :-P
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:41pm Marmalade kitty:

one or two.. :)
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:42pm G:

There's a phone at the station? Plugged into a wall??? Do you have to crank it and tell the operator the party you want?????
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:44pm joe:

Ring Ring... Caller please hold the line for Mr. Dan Bodah
Mon. 3/19/12 10:44pm diane in tokyo:

WFMU's listeners on the Madness site have been stuck at 4 for over a couple of hours now- when my 90 minutes ran out it didn't change. But on Soundtap's main page the top show now is this one with 40 odd listeners, fishy...
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:46pm penelope:

hiya Dan
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 10:46pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@Diane, I think the Soundtap site is just swamped. I noticed that kidn of thing earlier today too. But I think we are actually getting credit for all the listens we get there, although their site doesn't reflect it in all places. @G, yes, it's like that, only it's powered by fairy dust. @penelope, hiya!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:46pm joe:

I haven't been able to sign up and all I ever get when I go to the site is the menu bar on the left hand side but everything I select just give me that same page over and over again
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:47pm Ernestine:

Thir, are you thure you want to call them? I know for a fact that they don't take requethts at that station. ... OK, I'm thorry, I'm only trying to help, thir.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:49pm Destroit:

I once had a fish and named it Thunshine. Sad, but true.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:51pm sudo:

The direct stream sounds better than the soundtap one...or is that my imagination? In any case, can just fire up the page, mute the browser, and go on listening to the mp3 stream.
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:53pm Marmalade kitty:

I have also thought Joe Mcgasko sounded like Clint Eastwood, in "play misty.." And clay Pigeon, sounding a bit like jack Nicholson!
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:56pm damien:

Jack Nicholson in..."The King of Marvin Gardens"?
  Mon. 3/19/12 10:59pm Marmalade kitty:

maybe.. I should get my ears tested.. :)
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:02pm damien:

@DJ: This Terry Riley piece is the most interesting thing I have heard on your show in a while...I like
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:04pm sudo:

no doubt I'd fail a double-blind listening test :p
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:11pm PB:

I gotta go but thanks for another great show DB. I'll check out the rest on the archives.
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:18pm Julie:

love this song
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:20pm steve:

i wish every radio show ever was punctuated with some harsh noise every 1-2 hours.
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:20pm Destroit:

Paging throbbing gristle. This dog is workin'!
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 11:21pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@Steve, totally agreed
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:22pm steve:

is +dog+ a side project of a more well known noise artist? i feel like i heard that somewhere.
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:26pm brycepunk:

the show tonight has been awesome.
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:29pm kristin:

wow, this song by men is so great. sounds a little like the feelies in a tough moment.
Avatar Mon. 3/19/12 11:33pm Bodah the Human Yoda:

@Kristin, Brycepunk, thanks. Yeah, the Men album is fabulous. @Steve, I don't think +DOG+ is a side project. They are one of the major old-school noise stalwarts of the West Coast.
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:34pm miss cheri:

heey julie if you're still there i just want to say hello!!
  Mon. 3/19/12 11:38pm Andrew Waterloo:
