Billy Jam:

Inspired by the late great J Dilla (whose six year anniversary of his passing is today) this is my R.I.P. RAP special (trademark :) in which I will play music by some (not all) of the hip-hop/rap artists who have passed on. Feel free to post here in comments your requests and shout outs to those who have passed on. I will post the date each artist died plus how they died in the comments section of playlist - OK? thanks for listening!

What up Billy! Showed up early. I'll just work on this 40 in the corner for a bit.

Eons One:

Guru's passing is still something I have yet to come to terms with. No matter how far hip hop has strayed from it's roots over the years, the fact that a new Gang Starr album was always possible gave me something to look forward too. R.I.Power G.U.R.U.

Yo Bill, so many talented brothers and Sisters have passed on. I think one of the ones which shook the whole Irish community was the passing of Daniel"Lunitic" McDonnell. Can't forget Derek B from the UK or Eyedea. Or one of the soul brothers taken from the UK Lynden David Hall

Great show, though sad. Lots of favourites being played. But in the Heavy D comments, the "but" makes no sense. A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot in the lungs.

Thanks for another great show, Billy! Some of my favorite all-time WFMU shows have been tributes to the departed. Noah & Mr. C on James Brown, Noah on Gil Scott-Heron, Laura Cantrell did a lot too. For a younger listener like me, whose parents both died young, I really appreciate the perspective on a few levels.
