Listener comments!

  9:01am
Ben:

Thank You, Liz for whatever it is you bring us this morning.
  9:02am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

good morning and congrats to all the Giants fans, or at least some of them.
  9:03am
Marmalade Kitty:

G'morning! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am
Liz B.:

Morning everyone, and happy post-superbowl! How about that halftime show?
  9:10am
Berg:

greetings from Paris (name resemblence is purely coincidental I promise!)
  9:12am
still b/p:

I arrived at a small SB gathering just after halftime, so I didn't get flipped off by MIA, and I feel left out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am
Liz B.:

Welcome fellow Berg!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am
Liz B.:

still b/p - I was watching and caught MIA droppin' the S, but I missed her flippin' the bird! Viva la superbowl halftime show!
  9:23am
Mariano:

'Morning -- Glad to be able to listen to your show real-time for a change!
  9:23am
Ben:

Check out Wikipedia list of SB Halftime shows. I'd prefer a throwback show, something like Ella Fitzgerald, a College Marching Band, and Up With People. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_halftime_shows
  9:25am
dc pat:

whoa, I was standing right there watching and didn't even know MIA was on. Guess I wasn't paying attention after all...
  9:28am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I didn't see nuthin'. What is dropping the S? did she make a turd on stage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
Liz B.:

MIA said "I don't give a shit" and stuck out her middle finger and the network edited it a few seconds too late (right afterward the screen/sound glitched out).
  9:32am
dc pat:

I think a whole room full of people I was with missed all that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am
Liz B.:

It all happened very quickly, and I might have been the only one in the room to notice it at first thanks to my razor sharp broadcast ears.
  9:40am
dc pat:

I must have been too busy talking about soccer...
  9:40am
glenn:

we can flip you off, b/p. i know it won't be the same, but it's better than nothing.
  9:40am
Chez Quis Maitre-d':

Super Bowl halftimes - I weep for the future.
  9:41am
Ben:

My mind was on Madonna's gold trimmed panties courtesy of the crotch shots. Marching Bands and the Rockettes are so much more predictable, and arguably more musical. Where is the Real America going? Are we all on this ride?
  9:42am
dc pat:

dang! missed gold trimmed undies too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am
Liz B.:

Anyone else notice Madonna's face? Pulled tighter than ever before!
  9:44am
Ben:

I instantly googled her age. Born 1958.
  9:45am
dc pat:

THAT I noticed. scary..
  9:48am
glenn:

she looked like peggy lee in a wind tunnel.
  9:49am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

everyone I was with said how much better she looks now than back in the 80s! Just shows ya, everyone sees and hears things differently.
  9:49am
SteveL:

Peggy Lee FTW!
  9:51am
dc pat:

DCE: that's what's scary about it. She looks like she could be my daughter but is a good 10 years older than me.
  9:52am
glenn:

the halftime show was a despicable spectacle from start to finish. about the only thing that could have made it worse would have been lions ripping apart the injured players.
  9:53am
r i s k y:

PUS!!!!!
  9:54am
SteveL:

glenn: Lions=awesome! And, you meant to say 'Better'.
  9:54am
taking sides:

Peggy Lee or Peggy Windward...?
  9:55am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

yeah, glenn, the lions would have actually fit right in there with the theme.
  9:56am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

after all the beer I drank this weekend "not beer" sounds like what I need today
  9:57am
still b/p:

Now if I'd missed being flipped off by a bloody-muzzled lion, THEN I'd be really pissed and disappointed.
  9:57am
dc pat:

same here, I could use some Not Beer about now...
  9:59am
Bloody Muzzled Lion:

Flip!
  9:59am
SteveL:

Mmmmm. Bloody-muzzled lion.
  10:00am
glenn:

oooh. better. you're right.
  10:10am
Ken From Hyde Park:

You know what would be cool? A WFMU-sponsored halftime show. SB XLVIII is coming to NJ in 2014. That'd be a good way to kick off the 2014 marathon. Show the world what actual good music sounds like.
  10:11am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

beautiful music here! I just had a client tell me we need a new Sen. McCarthy because Congress is full of commies.
  10:12am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

UGGGHH!!
  10:13am
earwax:

@Ken While watching Madona and her marching band of Romans etc. I was thinking how much better it would be if it were someone like U.S. Girls or some other FMU favorite.
  10:14am
Cheri Pi:

Liz, that FMU 45 Adaptor will be mine this year. Somehow MINE!!!!
  10:14am
SteveL:

or... WFMU Halftime simulcast, ala MST 3k.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am
Liz B.:

Ok everybody, it's time to share your Fantasy Superbowl Halftime Show lineup!
  10:15am
glenn:

uh. commies? bless his little heart.
  10:15am
Ken From Hyde Park:

WFMU - The official hippie-noise radio station of SB XLVIII.
  10:16am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

LaMone Young and Phillip Glass minimalist death match
  10:16am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

sorry, LaMonte
  10:17am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

got too excited there at the prospect
  10:19am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Sonic Youth reunion and Social Distortion....and Björk.
  10:22am
Ben:

A lot of the pyrotechnics, and stadium visuals were imitations of the Bejing Olympics opening ceremonies (we copied China now!). Beijing knew how to put on a real show. So many creative people in this country, and the Big Media Companies don't have their phone #'s. It's all about big piles of money changing hands. VIVA WFMU!
  10:22am
richmond:

hold on sonic youth reunion. they havent even split up yet! but yeah, sonic youth any time
  10:24am
richmond:

and william fowler collins on full blast!
  10:25am
still b/p:

Taraf de Haïdouks and Omar Souleyman.
  10:25am
monica:

Saw Giants + Pats players being interviewed last week about what their favorite Madonna songs are. One guy said "Like A Version. Classic joint." Most of 'em had to think about it though.
  10:27am
fred:

Jandek and R. Stevie Moore. With Wing singing the national anthem
  10:28am
Bloody Muzzled Lion:

Feed the commies to me. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
  10:29am
earwax:

Maybe Sonic youth could revive Ciccone Youth and do a Madonna half-time tribute
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am
Liz B.:

Ha ha, so adorable, Monica! We had an impromptu bet over which songs Madge was gonna play. Whoever yelled out "medley" was a big winner. You guys have some great halftime suggestions!
  10:33am
still b/p:

Simba loves him some sympathizers. The reddest meat.
  10:34am
BSI:

Holy hell I'm late!
  10:35am
monica:

Therese came bursting into the library last night with a highly entertaining and exuberant rave review of Madge's halftime. Said she looked like Sun Ra during her entrance.
  10:37am
Mariano:

Remember $10 Bill by Cop Shoot Cop? That video would make a great halftime show if they could reenact it!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGI6mbD0E9A

Excuse the ad at the beginning...
  10:39am
richmond:

@ earwax. hehe, good one!
  10:42am
earwax:

@monica if Sun Ra were still on this planet, that would be one hell of a half-time show.
  10:43am
G:

Someone asked where Superbowl halftimes are going. They just follow the mainstream of the culture. So look at the youtubes 2012 for insight into the 2022 halftime show. I'm thinking maybe a breakout karaoke artist followed by something like shakethatbear.
  10:43am
bulglare:

if Jesus were here everything would have been better!
  10:46am
Mariano:

Perfect halftime show: two words: Crash Worship.
  10:47am
Ben:

Sun Ra just stopped here on his space ship for a while. He was never really on the same planet as the NFL. For some of his visit, he played on the sidewalk near Time Warner and collected coins.
  10:49am
glenn:

how about shatner and nimoy doing a medley of todd rundgren tunes?
  10:50am
bulglare:

no, Sun Ra would never take coins for music because music is free, it's like snow and sunshine.
  10:51am
robyn:

I still love the smiths! probably shouldn't have thrown myself into being a smiths fan so hard when I was younger, but I still love them.
  10:53am
monica:

@earwax and all, sun ra certainly has the benefit of better remixes (courtesy of wfmu staffers) than madonna.
  10:54am
bulglare:

The God never take money for snow and air, so you shouldnt take money for music, so Sun Ra spoke.
  10:57am
bulglare:

ЬЬЬЬMaddona, eat my shorts!!!
  11:01am
paula pc:

@Mariano -- that is the BEST idea EVER
  11:06am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I want it to have some guitars, too. So they'll need Dick Dale and BB King.
  11:06am
Carmichael:

Good morning Liz and airwavers.
  11:08am
bulglare:

Hail! Hail! young sailor
  11:10am
Mariano:

@paula pc

Thanks! Now if we could only get them back together...
  11:11am
Carmichael:

Halftime? Either GWAR or the Pogues.
  11:14am
Marmalade Kitty:

Half time.. the exploited
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SKuI0ixLt4
  11:15am
bulglare:

GWAR meets LMFAO and all the saints are trembling yeh
  11:16am
paula pc:

@ mariano -- it's been over a decade = sounds like the right interval for a reunion
  11:18am
bulglare:

i recognized this pattern of MIA at once hah
  11:19am
Ben:

To cover every demographic, get Mike Huckabee on guitar.
  11:21am
bulglare:

Is it background from Mutant Disco?
  11:23am
jk:

I have to say, though I am still bitter about the football game itself, I think it's a little weak to flip off the camera at the superbowl, WHILE you're playing and getting paid by the superbowl.
  11:29am
Marmalade Kitty:

Is Madonna still a rebel, then?
  11:30am
MD:

Shane sayz he's done with The Pogues...but it would be great if he made Am-ri-ca wait an Hour!!!!
  11:32am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Björk fans - She was on Colbert the other night. Her interview & performance might be on his web site.
  11:32am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

totally agree jk
  11:32am
Carmichael:

He says that every other week. He'd play the halftime; would be prompt about it, too.
  11:32am
Sean:

I think it's interesting that everyone seems to be focusing on MIA's middle finger, while ignoring the giant "fuck you" that the entire SuperBowl/Half-Time/Commercial Orgy screamed at least three quarters of the world.
  11:33am
Concerned Citizen:

I disagree: that's not interesting.
  11:34am
AndroidKBot:

The David Lynch Half-Time show
  11:35am
jeroen kuster:

You're the best.
I love your show
  11:36am
Marmalade Kitty:

sean I agree..I hate commercials!
  11:36am
AndroidKBot:

I don't know if you could have Gwar for the half-time show. I don't think Jello comes in tanker trucks.
  11:38am
Mariano:

@AndroidKBot: YES!!!
  11:40am
Ben:

David Lynch produces a holographic mashup of Marlena Deitrich, Elvis Presley, Shakira, Lady Gaga and Weird Al Yankovic (to play whomever he wants), with Mike Huckabee on guitar.
  11:41am
Mariano:

Wow, Liz, this Lost Sounds song ROCKS!
  11:43am
AndroidKBot:

With David Lynch half-time ends up being the 3rd quarter of super bowl 55 back-masked and under black light with Milt Jackson on vibes, and Bill Clinton on sax
  11:45am
Ben:

Vocals by President Obama
  11:45am
Marmalade Kitty:

Half time, Jim morrisson in a miami show mood
  11:47am
paula pc:

there may be nothing better in the whole world than this Pizzas 7"!!
  11:47am
Ken From Hyde Park:

For some reason, Insane Clown Posse didn't perform when SB XL in Detroit. So they need to get on stage. Make sure to tie it in with marketing of Faygo soda pop.
  11:49am
JT:

I think I just realized why I didn't notice the s-bomb or the middle finger that MIA gave. I think I was looking at her crotch.
  11:50am
DaveInSoDak:

Just when you think there's nothing better in the world than the Pizza's 7", along comes the Wimps... Too much awesomeness in one sitting...
  11:50am
JT:

Damn, I missed the Lost Sounds.
