A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

pierre saw The Artist the other day, trying to get our dog to do the shooting dead trick. Not much luck.

@ Brian : nice laugh, do you own a moustache ? (as if a moustache could be owned…)
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:30am Mike East:

I loved the Artist. Of the nominees, it has my vote. I think Drive was the best film of last year, though.
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:32am Mike East:

whoa - Keren Ann is rehearsing here today. Thanks to her, we have a gorgeous new Martin in our inventory!
Avatar Tue. 1/31/12 9:33am trouble:

sadly i haven't seen 'the artist' yet, 'hugo' is as close as i've been to an oscar movie
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:33am pierre:

If only this movie:
would have been translated, you would be in for an awesome laugh, it bacame a classic amongst people who like a good laugh. It has been made by Hazanavicius in his early days, and, to me, remains one of his best movie.
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:34am glenn:

i saw a martin r 18 in a music store not long ago. a martin archtop. who knew?
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:34am pierre:

@trouble : no sadness here, not having seen a movie is great, if the movie's cool, then you know there is a good cinéma time ahead :)

Good morning from Canada
Tue. 1/31/12 9:35am Brian en Angleterre:

pierre I had one once when I shaved off a beard but each time I shaved it got narrower 'till it became a toothbrush like a famous Austrian. It had to go. You have to go to Turkey to see a decent one these days.
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:38am Mike East:

@pierre, that looks awesome. Hopefully they'll translate it when he wins an oscar.
@glenn - I've never seen one. I can imagine the pricetag!

  Tue. 1/31/12 9:42am annie:

:)
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:42am pierre:

@ Brian : True, i've seen good ones in Ireland and Scotland, but they were burnt by smoking pipes.

@ Mike : The thing is with "la classe americaine" (translated — the american classy style —) it's just bits of movies, with very very famous comedians, from also famous movies. So it's impossible to release it. The way the film is made, it's making it impossible to release in any ways. The film shoot itself in the foot, which is not to unplease me.
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:42am Mike East:

@glenn, that's gorgeous - cheaper than I would have expected for a vintage '33.
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:43am Marmalade Kitty:

itunes: -> file ->get info ->info.. edit track number
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:45am glenn:

i thought so too. folkway is a great shop.
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:46am Mike East:

@pierre - the wiki article says Warner Bros. released the film clips to them - perhaps limited rights, then. Ever seen "What's Up Tiger Lily?" (Japanese action film with redubs by Woody Allen)?
  Tue. 1/31/12 9:49am pierre:

No, but now i will, thanks for the advice ;)
Tue. 1/31/12 9:50am Brian en Angleterre:

you can just look moose, don't need to join up. but then you won't get a hand typed thank you letter (kidding, but of course you got one!)
  Tue. 1/31/12 10:32am Lynn:

Thanks for the record info - the hated itunes had the mali but not mellow cats. Our good record store (cd's) closed. Alas, I am partly to blame. The itunes is pretty damn convenient since I listen to internet radio (FIP when WFMU is not doing it for me) or ipod exclusively.
Avatar Tue. 1/31/12 10:33am trouble:

thanks nynola! and thanks lynn for missing me....
Avatar Tue. 1/31/12 10:33am trouble:

lynn try amazon for a concrete version of mellow cats n kittens
  Tue. 1/31/12 10:36am Lynn:

My favorite world mix is Nigeria 70 comp. and my fave with electronics is Rai Rebels. For both the original is better than the sequel, but you probably knew that already.
  Tue. 1/31/12 10:41am Jennique:

Is there a LOL Mellow Cats 'n' Kittens web page out there?

what is the story on the lovely watercolor at the top of the playlist?
  Tue. 1/31/12 11:06am kwhitehead:

I dunno. I took a chance on a cool looking Enoch Light lp at the Goodwill the other day. Cover is great, record is shite. Only $1.00 tho.
  Tue. 1/31/12 11:10am frenchee:

Most of those Enoch Light albums are great visual art but lousy music. Except for th disco album
  Tue. 1/31/12 11:10am ffrr:

Trouble, there's a wonderful section in 'The Artist' that features Rose (chee chee) Murphy's 'Pennies from Heaven' on the soundtrack. Just thought you'd like that. Great sounds today, thanks.
