One of my favorite singer/songwriters, Tom Brosseau (he's appeared live on my show several times) is from Grand Forks, ND. Did a whole song cycle about the flooding of the Red River.

In my FAVORITES OF 2003 list, here is how I described Tom Brosseau:

"The old-timey music of the '20s and '30s was actually a revival of the music of an era half a century before. Tom Brosseau, a 27-year-old North Dakota native, sings songs of lost love that shimmer like aural tintypes, harkening back to that earlier time. His guitar is lovely, a harmonica adds color, the pump organ is a masterful touch. But the ingredient in this mix that will flat out give you chills is Brosseau's voice, which sounds eerily like a high-lonesome reincarnation of Jeff Buckley—with faint echoes of Karen Dalton."

Fine African set there. I find that the music coming out of Africa these days is less disntinctive, at the least the sort of stuff they play on "Destination Africa" on BBC One Extra which might as well be European or American. Blame it on globalisation, me thinks.

Personally, I believe war OF terror is a more accurate description. Given all that agression, a little resistance is in order. These Megaupload blokes are being charged with organised crime! In my book, states are the main makers of organised crime. No competition whatsoever.
