  3:01am
T-Zero:

  3:10am
northguineahills:

needs a higher keyboard alter
  3:14am
Julie:

Hi there north!
  3:21am
northguineahills:

Hey Julie, can't sleep, NYE festivities & results of said festivities have eff'ed up my Circadian rhythms, therefore, no sleep. T'was worth it!!! Hope you had a tretastical New Years!. Also, it's a nice treat to hear you live, I'm rarely awake on a Tuesday morning around 3ish.
  3:25am
Julie:

Glad to see you then North!
  3:29am
Shrim:

favorite show by far on wfmu - worst song ive heard on here ever though. sadface.
  3:30am
Julie:

@Shrim sorry! Yeah it seems Abney Park has taken a western turn
  3:32am
Julie:

The worst song I ever played was an album track by Robey. I actually stopped it
  3:35am
northguineahills:

One can never go wrong w/ the LPD's! Thanks! I'll hang on until 4ish.... then my brain will crash...
  3:36am
Julie:

@Shrim by the way thanks for the awesome compliment!
  3:42am
Shrim:

LOVE YOU JULIE!!
  3:45am
Julie:

Wowza!
  3:46am
T-Zero:

Monochrome, is that the post B-Sides after Adam Ant left?
  3:48am
Julie:

T-Zero I don't think so, it's too recent and from a Goth comp.
  3:50am
dan:

Hi Julie, OMD! nice
  3:50am
T-Zero:

Too recent? From 1984? There last album was released in 95 and a compilation in 2008. But I wasn't sure if this Monocrhome was the Monocrhome Set or a different Monochrome group.
  3:51am
T-Zero:

Whoops. Scratch that. I was looking at the wrong entry date. Sorry!
  3:52am
Julie:

@dan hiya dan!
  3:54am
tomthum:

howdy
  3:55am
Julie:

Hiya Tomthum!
  3:58am
Shrim:

Nice track. Happyface.
  4:00am
listener mark:

Good Morning Julie.
It is good to hear your show live. I'm an archive listener.
  4:02am
tomthum:

i'm here in san francisco
  4:03am
tomthum:

I don't one single song or band you have played
  4:04am
tomthum:

wait Madonna... i heard of her once
  4:04am
tomthum:

i can listen to your voice all night into nana land
  4:05am
Matt from Springfield:

Hiya Hiya Julie!

Tomthum's blues! Don't know a single song--great way to learn cool stuff then, that's what I always say!
  4:06am
tomthum:

okay... i am a sponge.
  4:06am
T-Zero:

Morning, Matt. Surprise, I'm awake for the show this morning.
  4:06am
Matt from Springfield:

Ha ha, "Synthesthesia"! Like Void Vision, like that 8-bit sound. Once again, ALL lights except my monitor are out.
(Vision being mostly voided).
  4:08am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi T-Zero! Set my alarm for this!
I can imagine you sleeping very erratically, setting your alarm for every FMU show and trying to make the comments board before each one ends! :)
  4:08am
Julie:

@Matt hi Matt! Get dancin'!
  4:09am
fred:

Julie, who was the engineer for that live session?
  4:09am
T-Zero:

Heh. For some reason Bodah wasn't appealing to me this evening so I took a nap.
  4:10am
Matt from Springfield:

Shprockets! Now is the hour on Dark Night were we dance!
  4:10am
Julie:

oops I need to add that! Stu Rutherford
  4:14am
Matt from Springfield:

Technical gurus out there may be impressed with the Ensoniq synth she's using--apparently that was a big 80s synth and sampler company, adds authenticity to this sound.
  4:15am
Matt from Springfield:

I thought it said "ersoniq"--if only that was the brand, this set could be called "ersoniq and old lace"!
  4:16am
Julie:

I have an Ensoniq as well, though I never figured it out. Shari, Void Vision, is a whiz at this stuff
  4:22am
T-Zero:

So, wonder where pierre is? Doesn't he usually have a knack for timing with the French cold wave?
  4:22am
fred:

Thanks Julie
  4:23am
Julie:

Thanks Fred
  4:23am
Julie:

ha! maybe he knows it's not French but a girl from Philly
  4:26am
Julie:

I love the disco "wooooo" she does here
  4:30am
T-Zero:

Is this the first time she's been on your show, Julie?
  4:30am
Julie:

@T-Zero yes but I've played her songs before
  4:32am
Matt from Springfield:

"Void Vision, long dominant on the contemporary-retro Philly Coldwave scene"...
  4:32am
fred:

@Julie: I often ask DJs to name the engineer on live sessions. My playlist pet peeve
  4:33am
Matt from Springfield:

Didn't know this was a Queen song. Like 70s Queen, or 80s?
  4:33am
Julie:

@fred well it's there now :)
  4:33am
Julie:

70s I think, I looked at their record don't remember when it's from
  4:34am
T-Zero:

Take My Breath Away ... mid 70s
  4:35am
Julie:

I think it's really cool there is a Philly Coldwave scene
  4:35am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, it's official---2012 is the year of origin in the playlist! It's a new year alright!
  4:36am
Julie:

Do I have the first live set also?
  4:37am
Matt from Springfield:

Us Yanks need to catch up on Coldwave, but better 30 years late than never! :)
This show is a great primer on several "waves", including French coldwave.
  4:37am
fred:

No, Keili beat you to that, she had two on Sunday
  4:38am
Julie:

@Fred oh of course! Keili has a band every week
  4:38am
fred:

Obviously hers had been recorded in 2011, was this one too?
  4:39am
Shrim:

Loving this song, great set.
  4:39am
Dave B:

Just passing in and out of consciousness, thought I'd say hello
  4:39am
Matt from Springfield:

Yeah, I just noticed Keili--BUT, I think yours is the first to publish the year "2012" on FMU. Checking now to verify...
  4:39am
Julie:

Yep, but records are always recorded earlier, so I figure I use the release date :)
  4:39am
Julie:

@DaveB Howdy!
  4:41am
fred:

Good morning Dave
  4:42am
T-Zero:

Except some of these you've played already ;)
  4:42am
Julie:

@T-Zero studio versions, not live
  4:43am
T-Zero:

Studio versions don't count as a release eh?
  4:43am
Matt from Springfield:

"Gearhead Chat, on WFMU. Where do you procure your old Casios? Repair that old DX7? What's the oldest piece of equipment you have? 201-209-9368..."
  4:44am
fred:

So if Emilie Simon's record still isn't out on your side of the pond, does that mean you played tracks from 2012 in 2011? That might be hard to top
  4:45am
Julie:

So a live set should be dated the same as the album release? some of those songs date from 2009.
  4:45am
T-Zero:

Julie, it doesn't matter to me... just razzin...
  4:45am
Julie:

<SHRUG>
  4:45am
Matt from Springfield:

And YES, you are the first to play a 2012 "release" live studio set, and print "2012" next to it!
  4:46am
Matt from Springfield:

AVoid Vision: singular avoidance of singularities!
  4:47am
Gretich Zylibogli:

Wow....I was just listening to a bunch of Cyber People last night. Digital Signal Processor...swoon...
  4:50am
Julie:

Hi Gretich! I actually started the night with them
  4:50am
Dave B:

Bonne Annee Fred, Happy New Year Julie.
  4:50am
Julie:

@DaveB happy new year to you too!
  4:51am
Marmalade Kitty:

Hi Julie & all! happy new year!
  4:51am
Matt from Springfield:

That's right, I think you mentioned her as the opening act to Black Tape before, wish I could see that live! I wonder if she's the House DJ anywhere, 'twould be a weird club but one I would like to check out!
  4:51am
listener mark:

Happy New Year Julie !
Happy New Year everybody !
  4:52am
Julie:

Morning, Mark!
  4:52am
fred:

Well, 01/01/2013 will be a Tuesday. If you stick with that slot, I like your chances to air the first live session
  4:52am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi MK!
And Happy New Year to Dave B, mark, Gretich, Julie, anyone else I didn't Happy New Year already!
  4:52am
Dave B:

And to the rest of the listeners here too. Not sure who else I might know. My morning vision is all blurry with sleepglue
  4:55am
Dave B:

There used to be a killer old synth shop down on west broadway. I'm talkin melotron/modular moog type vintage...
  4:55am
listener mark:

We love you, Julie !
You are fabulous !
  4:57am
Matt from Springfield:

Shit, you're getting me dancing again, already!
  4:57am
Dave B:

Speaking of modular moog
  4:59am
Julie:

@Mark oh my! All these compliments tonight. What a way to start the year!
  5:04am
Marmalade Kitty:

Hi Julie & all! happy new year!!!!!!!!!!
I got lost ina comment avalanche :(
  5:05am
Gretich Zylibogli:

Julie - thoughts on the song by the italo band Scotch called "Disco Band"? I ordered the original first pressing after I heard it the first time - I played it for my friends and they all laughed and asked why....
  5:05am
Julie:

Hi Kitty! Happy New Year!
  5:06am
ausmanx:

hey Julie, Kitty, Dave etc... I'm late here tonight too. happy new year, and i hope everyone noted the best story of the new year, that the island of Samoa skipped last Friday and have jumped the International Date Line. now THAT is very cool. there's no Samoan Coldwave scene, though
  5:07am
Julie:

@Gretich I'm afraid I don't know it
  5:07am
Julie:

@Aus Hi there! I heard about that, but I don't know why
  5:08am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Don't worry, I still see you! :)
@Julie: I read the earlier comments today, was that song that you cut off in mid-play the other song by the "One Night In Bangkok" people? I remember you quitting that one midstream!
  5:08am
Gretich Zylibogli:

@Julie
original italo video for the song by Scotch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLbEZU7YB-w
  5:09am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi ausmanx!
Yeah, I heard about that too, from a commenter here originally, then Wiki's front page reported the date skip.
  5:11am
T-Zero:

Yeah, voiding a day certainly beat their last groundhog day when they repeated July 4th.
  5:12am
Julie:

@Matt yes, and that was one girl, Robey
  5:12am
T-Zero:

But think of all the poor kids whose birthdays were the 30th...
  5:13am
Marmalade Kitty:

I'd like to skip jan feb wake up in late march april zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :)
  5:14am
ausmanx:

yeah, i thought about the birthdays too. but at least they get to be the first place on earth to celebrate the New Year now! have you EVER had a Samoan record on the show, Julie? Angry Samoans don't count...
  5:15am
T-Zero:

@MK: Yep. There's something to be said for hibernation... I've been debating whether or not to go to be, just to get under the duvet. It's only -14C here.
  5:17am
Julie:

@Aus nope I haven't
  5:19am
ausmanx:

even here in australia, i haven't come across any Samoan pop, and if this is any indication, i think we know why...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrQOE2IRnRw
  5:22am
Julie:

I would love a glass of Samoan pop
  5:23am
Gretich Zylibogli:

@ausmarx
ouch
  5:26am
ausmanx:

ah, now the drink is something else... kava's actually illegal here, i think. that's real samoan pop...
  5:27am
Matt from Springfield:

Great title from E. Autumn!
  5:27am
Julie:

Why illegal?
  5:28am
Julie:

Yes I love this one!
  5:30am
ausmanx:

christ knows why it's illegal, it's not exactly peyote! probably dates back to the White Australia policy... can't have those natives being intoxicated now, chaps!
  5:33am
T-Zero:

It's legal in the US, but the FDA urges caution... It's said it causes liver toxicity
  5:33am
Julie:

I've never had it, I was just making a joke :)
  5:34am
pierre:

Bonjour Julie !
Bonjour wfmuers !

a bit late, but here, wanted to listen to the live but will check the archive.

et BONNE ET HEUREUSE ANNÉE JULIE !!
  5:35am
ausmanx:

aha, so Shriekback are the missing link between Julie and Marty McSorley! one of the greatest bands to come out the UK I reckon. yeah, kava is illegal in UK and Ireland too... illegal for sale in Australia, but not for consumption. one of the rare things the US is more tolerant about, it seems. maybe to encourage all those huge Samoan NFL players!
  5:35am
Julie:

Bonjour Pierre! Happy New Year!
  5:36am
ausmanx:

also that Shriekback track remains the only pop song ever to use the word "parthenogenesis"...
  5:39am
Marmalade Kitty:

I too will have to catch archive This is a great set Julie!
  5:40am
Matt from Springfield:

Bonjour pierre! Be sure to check the Void Vision set, similar to Coldwave.
  5:40am
Julie:

Thanks MK! Have a great day!
  5:42am
Matt from Springfield:

Strawberry Switchblade!!!
This was the single they released only in Japan.
  5:44am
pierre:

@Matt : yeah i heard "in 20 years" in Scott Williams show, and loved it very much, in that coldwave sense, you're right.

@ Julie : typical great show from what i hear here. ^^
  5:45am
Julie:

Wow Scott played them! I couldn't even find the record here
  5:45am
Julie:

Thank you Pierre!
  5:52am
Julie:

Almost time to go! Thanks so much for listening everyone, hope to see you next week!
  5:52am
Matt from Springfield:

So Young, But So Bitterly Cold this week here in Virginia. The Coldwave strikes today! Brrrrr!
  5:53am
pierre:

I'm started to think that i'm not sure that it was Scott. Tried to find it, but couldn't, anyway it's great to know it's there in the night of the soul.

Merci Julie, à vite !
  5:53am
Matt from Springfield:

Yes, Neil Young "Trans" style vocoder!

Excellent show today Julie! Thanks for another fine live set!
  5:53am
T-Zero:

cold here too, Matt. It's gotten even colder in the last 20 minutes. Only 6 here.
  5:54am
T-Zero:

Yes, Julie, good show. Was nice to be here live for once.
  5:55am
T-Zero:

Liz Berg played it pierre, if you're talking about Void Vision
  5:55am
Marmalade Kitty:

This last hour was too quick! Great show Julie! Have a good week everyone, stay warm!
  5:57am
Matt from Springfield:

There's your Mancunian collective, MK! I'll be sure to bundle up warm, have a great week yourself Kitty!
See ya T-Z!
  5:58am
Matt from Springfield:

And...have a great Tuesday, everyone!
  5:58am
T-Zero:

See ya, Matt... Off to sleep now I think. Take care going home, Julie
  5:58am
Julie:

Goodnight to those going to sleep! everyone else have a great day and keep warm!
  12:22pm
Van in Dallas:

All right! Looking forward to diving in to the first 2012 Dark Night of the Soul!
  1:16pm
Van in Dallas:

What a fantastic first set to open 2012. Nicely done Julie!
  2:05pm
Van in Dallas:

Enjoying the Void Vision. Shari has such a soft, low voice when she talks, I have to crank the sound, then have to quickly back it down (here in the office) :)
  3:42pm
Van in Dallas:

Will pick up post-VV interview either tonight or tomorrow. Snuck out of work to watch Manchester City vs. Liverpool soccer :)
  7:33pm
other david:

heard bits this morning, but was busy and exhausted.

now tuning in for proper listen, awesome start :)
  9:17am
Van in Dallas:

I'm picking back up now too :)
  10:28am
Van in Dallas:

Didn't realize that ALL of those keyboards were Shari's :) Funny, but some of her music reminded me strongly of an Air Force dormmate I had (the one that opened my eyes to Kate, Toyah, etc.)...he was a musician as well, loved his keyboards and such. He was an author as well, and was published... "Mercedes Nights" for one. RIP Michael D. Weaver.

Anyway, wonderful show Julie! I finally finished :)
