this song is kind of offensive

Damn you for forcing me to admit this Loverboy song is great
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:21pm
PB:
What's with all these FMU DJs playing this really, really crappy Canadian music lately? EFD did a whole show of Canadian music and most of it was awful. I was born and raised in Canada so I know of what I speak.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:21pm
Eric:
hot DX7 licks! | |

|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:30pm
PB:
Gotta hand it to you Dan, Sun Araw last week and Sparks and Loverboy this week.

and I think I prefer the Sun Araw.

Mon. 10/24/11 10:35pm
Mike:
"heart and soul" -heuy lewis SMASH!
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:45pm
PB:
Angie by the Rolling Stones. SMASH While you're at it, please SMASH everything they released after Exile.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:46pm
Marmalade Kitty:
I feel like smashing things when I hear "take a chance on me" -Abba smash it!
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:47pm
Dan B:
Wish I had some of these -- I'm gonna look for them at the Record Fair -- it's worth 50 cents to buy them for destruction. I do have "As Tears Go By," but although I hate the Stones deeply, that song is just not symbolic of all the many things wrong with the band. Huey Lewis, now THAT'S a band I could really smash. Didn't I smash Sports recently?
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:50pm
PB:
As Tears Go By is eminently smash-worthy. Go for it.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:51pm
Huey:
It's hip to be smashed! | |
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:51pm
Mike:
sporks? | |
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:55pm
Mike:
well if we're doing break-ups, how about the moody blues - these eyes?
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:57pm
Dan B:
OK folks, I making a list of things to find at the Record Fair. We will revisit this Singles Breaking Up theme shortly, with a much broader selection and more prominent smashing to be heard. Keep the suggestions coming...
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:57pm
PB:
Great choice for smashing. I absolutely revile GNR.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:59pm
Larry:
It's sad, but ANYBODY can sing better than Axl Rose on "Sweet Child O' Mine"
|
Mon. 10/24/11 10:59pm
Mike:
"i would do anything for love, BUT I WON'T DO THAT"
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:02pm
PB:
Kokomo by the Beach Boys. SMASH to smithereens.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:03pm
G:
Katy Perry, California Girls. Too obvious?
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:07pm
Mike:
i literally cringed. ouch. SMASH!
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:07pm
Marmalade Kitty:
do it Dan.. | |

FLY ROBIN FLY! UP UP IN THE SKY!
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:08pm
Summicron:
Larry, what are you talking about?! Like him or not, and these days, oh my, he's a terrible site, but "Sweet Child O' Mine' is a deft vocal display. He's got swagger and Izzy & Slash have the best dueling guitars since Television or The Stones .. on that cut at least.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:16pm
PB:
@ summicron, you're kidding right? GNR was absolute trash.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:17pm
rolling and tumbling:
dear pb: how can you say, "please SMASH everything they released after Exile." have you listened to anything after that album? 'it's only rock 'n roll' and 'tattoo you' come to mind. really? you wanna smash those albums??
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:18pm
summicron:
PB. Yes, GNR is terrible. I don't believe that was the debate. It was an issue about Axl's vocals on that one song. And I said, he nailed it. You can not deny that that song is not executed well. The vocals, attitude, and guitar playing from both Izzy and Slash, on that cut, is fab. Deal with it.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:20pm
Marmalade Kitty:
are you wearing googles
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:21pm
PB:
@ summicorn, we'll just agree to disagree on that song. @ rolling, yes I think everything the Stones did after the monumental Exile was really, really bad. Just my opinion, and yes I have heard a lot of the stuff they released after Exile.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:21pm
Mike:
i'd smash those stones albums, but i'd save the GnR. GnR suffers from being horrendously overplayed, but isn't bad otherwise. everything in moderation.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:22pm
Dan B:
Great suggestions -- MORE MORE MORE! Can you even GET a 7" or vinyl of any sort for current pop atrocities like Katy Perry? I don't really want to go smashing thumb drives full of abhorent mp3s.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:22pm
PB:
A couple more 7"s prime for smashing: We Built This City by Starship, Touch of Grey by the Dead and Born in the USA (and everything else ever recorded by Springsteen).
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:23pm
summicron:
Far be it from me to defend GNR. However, yeah, Mike, I agree ... overplayed and lumped in with lots of bad "classic rock". I saw some pics of Rose performing in Rio lately, and fercryinoutloud, that fat fuck looked terrible.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:24pm
Marmalade Kitty:
anything by rufus wainright smash!
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:25pm

PUBLIC SERVANT ANNOUNCEMENT: As a volunteer who busts his ass to bring you great radio every week, I urge you to use the pledge widget on the playlist page to pledge some support to WFMU, especially if you are having a good time and enjoying the show. I have noticed that no pledges have come in during the show at all. Please give me some folks to thank and get me close enough to hit my $1.5K goal during next week's show. Thanking you kindly, your DJ.

Mon. 10/24/11 11:25pm
Larry:
I know Lady Gaga and Jonas Brothers ("!") have vinyl. Not sure about Katy Perry
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:25pm
summicron:
woah, pb, smash everything from springsteen? sure, i'd smash the entire 'born in the usa' album. i'd probably smash every single one after that too. but come on, there's some great playing on a few of the early ones. smash everything starship did though and use an extra big hammer. and please, please, please smash into tiny piece everything from elp.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:26pm
Dan B:
The freakin' Jonas Brothers are on vinyl?! Lord help us.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:26pm
G:
Katy's on vinyl -- album not 45 though
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:27pm
Katy:
Vinyl is so totally oldskool. It's really CUTE!
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:27pm
PB:
@summicron, agree on the elp but I think ELO was actually worse. Bruce is not my cup of tea, I don't like anything he's ever done (with possible exception of Darkness on the Edge of Town). He just irks the crap out of me.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:28pm
Larry:
I'm waiting for payday (mac and cheese week again)....Yes, they have a picture disc. There's a video for it on YouTube......
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:28pm
Dan B:
It's almost buying Teenage Daymare on vinyl just to smash it. I wonder if I could smash each track individually and still be able to play the next one and then smash that too...
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:29pm
Dan B:
worth --- almost worth buying etc...
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:30pm
PB:
One Love by Bob Marley - brutal. SMASH.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:31pm
summicron:
air supply, reo speedwagon and bob seger. please feel free to swing that hammer on those folks. and every single song on bob marley's 'legend' ... it's overplayed. smash smash smash.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:33pm
Mike:
google says: Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:35pm
summicron:
if mariah carey's christmas album was available as individual 7" releases, i would happily buy them all and know that i would be getting far more joy out of smashing the shit out of all of them than i would hearing them one more time.
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:37pm
damien:
@Dan B: I promise to make a pledge this week! In a hotel without a secure internet connection right now....

Baseball game's over and I have to turn in. Great show Dan.See y'all next week. @ marmalade, Bob Marley = reggae "light".
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:42pm

masonna + joe dolce played slow is a pretty precise approximation of the noises in my head. listening to wfmu is pretty much the only thing that seems to help.

Marmalade Kitty:
bob marley = LION | |
|
Mon. 10/24/11 11:45pm

dave: i totally understand. i once considered writing down everything that gets stuck in my head over the course of a week and make a track out of it, but alas, no motivation.
