Sounds from the archive of the future, sonic drilling into the past, dissonant rumbling, lyrical melodies, noises (human, animal, mechanical, digital) inscrutable yet honest, desultory but consistent.

Depends on whether or not you think Humbert Humbert is a pervert.

Stuff for a couple's weekend at the Jersey shore?
  3:11pm
northguineahills:

Hadn't heard the Everly Bros.'s version of Mr. Soul.
  3:15pm
Minnesota Jeff:

David: What is the origin of that list sound bite?
  3:19pm

thanks, David - I wasn't a fan of the song, but i liked Barbara Dane's voice, and a little internet searching came up with her blues album, which seems to be really excellent. Gonna have to DL from emusic when I get home. Wow.

hamburger:

takako minekawa is fantastic cat
  3:46pm
northguineahills:

I need to get some good ol' skool Muzak on vinyl. Not sure why I'm a sucker for such.
  3:51pm
still b/p:

In a vehicle with satellite radio recently, I started surfing through the many choices but was stopped in cold happy fascination by a Muzak version of Traveling Man, with poor sound quality to boot.
  4:04pm
northguineahills:

Haven't heard Dirty Poodle since they were back in Gainesville (and I was back there too)
  4:05pm
Ken Garson:

I love hearing Muzak versions of U2 tunes, which are truly amenable to excessive cheese factor over-arrangement. Their music generally sucks as rock, but works in elevators. Eno, of course, tries hard to fit that bill, but rarely hits the mark.
  4:06pm
Carmichael:

Hiya Duane, hi everyone.
  4:08pm
bruceleh:

I noticed listening to Muzak you would occasionally here a burning guitar solo, softly mixed down, of course.
There's a project for someone, make a collection of that sort of stuff.
  4:08pm
Dirk:

Boogie Nights...
  4:09pm
bruceleh:

The day after Jerry Garcia died, I was in a Food Emporium and they a Muzak 'Sugar Magnolia' was playing! I was stunned!
  4:10pm
Carmichael:

I was in CVS and heard Amboy Dukes' "Journey to the Center of Your Mind" on the muzak machine.

I also have Both Sides Now, which I use when I mix up telephone marketing tracks.
  4:13pm
Inner Ear Detour:

Wish list: a Muzak version of Eno
  4:14pm
Ken Garson:

There is a Muzak version of Eno. It's Yasunao Tone.
  4:18pm
Carmichael:

Many years ago, I took Devo up on a mail-in purchase of T-shirt and muzak cassette from the Freedom of Choice album. I never received the tee, but I still have the cassette somewhere.
  4:20pm
Bridget:

I love Peggy Lee! :)
  4:20pm
the glowing one:

Johnny Guitar... ah Fallout: New Vegas!
  4:21pm
J J:

Has Johnny Guitar ever been released on DVD?
  4:22pm
northguineahills:

I think Isao Tomita is a more muzak of Eno then Yasanao Tone, Tone's music can be harsh!
  4:23pm
Boris:

Lady, you're going to have to speak up. You're mumbling.
  4:25pm
frank pahl:

i was noticing a bump in my music for architecture sales and the comments mentioned wfmu. i went to your webpage and you were playing bilbao effect...go figure. you just made my day!
  4:27pm
Normal Guy:

@frank pahl: The Irwin show has also played from your Architecture album the last couple of weeks, Wednesday afternoons. Check his last two playlists.
  4:28pm
Ken Garson:

Inasmuch as Muzak eviscerates every last shred of the harsh, replacing the swing of jazz, the fist-pump of rock, the hook of pop with radical pleasantness, and inasmuch as Eno strives often to denature popular music of those same respective qualities, it follows that a hybrid of the two is equal parts Everclear and lighter fluid. That's Yasunao Tone.
  4:29pm
frank pahl:

thanks for the irwin heads up. and thanks david for the peggy
lee. a great track!
  4:30pm
Normal Guy:

@frank pahl: As best I recall Irwin discussed getting a CD from you in the mail during his mic break after playing your song two days ago. Listen to the archive of that mic break if you want.
  4:43pm
Ike:

I had forgotten how good a song "(Pardon Me) I've Got Someone to Kill" is. It's not just a funny title! Although it's that, too.
  5:01pm
J J:

Love the song selections. All over the place, but never gets old.
  5:04pm
Bad Ronald:

Great show David.

Yeah, Paycheck's good for that.
  5:11pm
MVL:

J J. I believe Johnny Guitar did get a DVD release
  5:14pm
Inner Ear Detour:

Johnny Guitar: Watch it for Mercedes McCambridge alone -- Her stonecold toughness foreshadows her Linda Blair voiceover in The Exorcist
  5:16pm
J J:

I guess I'm hoping someday Criterion gets their hands on it for release. Also, had no idea Mercedes did voiceover for the Exorcist.
  5:27pm
hamburger:

  5:29pm
