BAHAHAHHA! Funniest pronunciation of "Monmouth" ever! (It sounds like Mon-Muth actually) Great show btw
|

damien:
Forever Changes reminds me of Mill River, Massachusetts, and a dirt road that I know of there. Late October. Cloudy. An album that should have a different meaning for each listener.

Ike:
Wow, this electronic neighborhood has really gone downhill since I threatened to rob everyone's liquids during Scott W.'s show. Anyway, great show!
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:02pm
dave:
i'm pretty sure dan's pronunciation of "monmouth" was correct, jeezy. fun historical fact: the name is actually a french-english hybrid; it was coined when a settler, fresh off the boat from gay paree, got into a bit of a dustup at a local drinking establishment which ended in his taking a fist to the face. he staggered away spitting teeth and shouting "ZUT ALORS! MON MOUTH! MON MOUTH!" the name stuck.
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:02pm
Dan B:
@Jeezy, that's awesome. How does one pronounce "Kearny" BTW? I love mispronouncing names. @damien, I feel the same way about that Love record. It evokes a very definite sense of place. @WIMN? - I can't help it, I spilled the milk all over myself in my carseat!

i dont know:
Ike wants your milk! | |
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:11pm
Jeezy:
Kearny is actually pronounced Carney. And while you may be correct about its origins, Dave, I can assure you that no one who lives there says "MON-MOUTH" Hahahaha....
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:12pm
Jeezy:
But yes, it is awesome Dan... great job!
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:13pm
dave:
and whose fault is it that the people who live in monmouth can't be bothered to brush up on the fascinating history of the place enough to learn how to pronounce the name of their home county? not mine, i'll tell you that much.
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:15pm
Ike:
Jeezy is right about those words. Also, Dan, earlier I demanded everyone give me all the water in their bodies, but I rescind that demand. If you were a desiccated husk, you could not finish your excellent show.
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:15pm
david:
oh yeah, it is trent's old time slot...
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:18pm
unknown:
monmouth? | |
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:22pm
Dan B:
@unknown, yes - mon mouth, or French and English for "my mouth." Pronounced by historians as "Monmouth" and by Jerseyites as "Monmuth." I blame the Dutch.
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:22pm

Oh, I forgot to announce that Botanist track I played. The whole 2xCD set is death metal played on...hammered dulcimer. It is wondrous.
|
Mon. 8/22/11 10:24pm
Dan B:
Pineapples do not grown on trees, you know, and neither do earth-apples (pommes de terre, French for "potato").

Mon. 8/22/11 11:27pm
Dan B:
heheheh - I had to let it go on just a *little* past the point where the interest and humor disappeared and pure misery arose. It was only appropriate.

Holy cow. I should listen to this show! Just dropped in for the first time on a Friday evening, and like what I see!

Van in Dallas:
Yes I am nuts indeed. | |
|
Mon. 8/22/11 11:41pm
Dan B:
My favorite store sign in all of NYC is on Church Street just south of Chambers Street. It is in badly-kerned Comic Sans, one of the worst fonts. It reads, in a totally deadpan manner, "We Are Nuts About Nuts" -- not even an exclamation point. The kicker is that the store actually sells nuts. That place kills me every time I walk by.
|
Mon. 8/22/11 11:44pm
Van in Dallas:
And that on Church street. You're making this up
|
Mon. 8/22/11 11:44pm
L'innomable:
You ought to go inside and kick the owner in the nuts, then ask him: "So *now* how do you feel about nuts, big guy?"

"Commanding the U.S. Army’s beleaguered and surrounded 101st Airborne Division during World War II’s Battle of the Bulge, Col. Anthony Clement McAuliffe received a German surrender ultimatum. "Nuts!" he replied, and became a lasting symbol of American courage and determination under fire."
|
Mon. 8/22/11 11:45pm
damien:
Did they reopen a "Chock Full of Nuts" in NYC? I would cut Van some slack; it is the temperature of the sun in Dallas these days. All days are the same: HOT. Unholy Mother of G-d, is it hot down there!
|
Mon. 8/22/11 11:46pm
Van in Dallas:
Hey Dan, nice to discover your show. I'm fairly new to WFMU ( but I already have a t-shirt lol) And yes it is hot here in Dallas! Please leave Julie a note that I found out that in the next universe over, KaTe and Toyah BOTH toured the US 10 times each!

I am pretty sure Julie is playing a special Kate Bush song request for me for my birthday: "Wow what an old fart you are how are you still even ALIVE?!" or something like that.

Okay so Dan - just discovered your show. Think I LIKE it! But please put yardmarkers in the playlist, you know, click here to listen for each song so when I catch up on Archive and want to pause for a few minutes, I don't have to restart the entire show from the start! (such a nice feature :) )
