  Sun. 8/14/11 8:17pm Maggie in Rock Tavern:

Mo, I was born and raised in Manhattan, and when we outgrew our apartment, we went to Staten Island for the elbow room. It was great there for about 13 years, but long story short, toward the end we knew it was time to leave the city altogether. We had always fantasized about living in the Hudson Valley, and that's what we did. The only regret is the epic commute to our jobs in the city.
  Sun. 8/14/11 8:17pm texas scott:

dear monica,just move upstate and open a second-hand store,while living on a weed farm.
that's what i would do.
* end of transmission *
  Sun. 8/14/11 8:17pm G:

I went into totally online teaching five years ago, and within two years made more per year than at my highest year working full-time for NYU. I'm planning on moving to a lower-cost and lower-tax jurisdiction in the next couple of years. I've been in NYC since 1979, but I can visit whenever I want.
  Sun. 8/14/11 8:18pm monica:

  Sun. 8/14/11 8:18pm ScottC:

@ gookie - commercial art. The biggest draw-back to self-employment is that you work ALL THE TIME - thank god for WFM<U- it keeps me sane...

Yes ma'am, I'm drinking energy drinks and going through my library now. You are good company for these activities. I meant the Danny Kaye/Andrews Sisters, I've loved it since I was a kid...

  Sun. 8/14/11 8:30pm G:

I travel around. As long as I have a solid internet connection, I'm fine. When in NYC, I'm normally in Brooklyn. I compared various states for declaring domicile based on various cost-of-living and tax and policy factors. There are actually various handbooks about that -- comparing the 50 states as domiciles, updated yearly.
  Sun. 8/14/11 8:32pm monica:

I live in matamoras Pa. I can walk 20 minutes over to Port Jervis Ny and take a train to penn station nyc and be there in 2 hours. I have no car ...saving about 3500 dollars a year. I can walk to the grocery store and the rite aid drug store. and every morning walk three miles up and back along the delaware river. It ain't nyc but it is pretty.

Long Beach, L.I. : "a little piece of California right near NYC" tons of transport, and fully diverse- NJ might be your best retreat, do the reverse PATH commute to the station. I hear positives from Maplewood- NYC more & more like Craigslist-on-Hudson: "Mike Bloomberg is having a sale ! Every(one)thing must go !"
  Sun. 8/14/11 8:54pm texas scott:
