Oh sure, act like you're not affected, but you know you're hurtin'!! You'll be obsessed about this forever, it will consume you...
Wed. 8/10/11 3:03pm Matt from Springfield:

That said, that's a great comic--so epistemological, where'd you find it Irwin?
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:04pm Irwin:

Click on it, Matt

It poses issues of veritism, idealism, and perceptualism, while challenging us to think them through cohesively for ourselves.

Good luck with that, dude!
Wed. 8/10/11 3:07pm Matt from Springfield:

XKCD: "A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language."

Hey, I do all those things! Well, maybe replace "romance" with "webcomic".

Wed. 8/10/11 3:20pm Monk and everyone other OCDer:

Irwin's right about the shade.
Wed. 8/10/11 3:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@PMD: Did they return Irwin to the studio post-abduction, or is this an alien imitation who found his Kryptonite in a lampshade's seam?
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:22pm Comedy Cop:

@Matt: I'm ticketing you for a 322 -- an overcomplex premise.
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:23pm Brass Knuckles:

Whenever I listen to Irwin I picture a naked man crouched in a dark corner masturbating and talking to himself.
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:24pm Comedy Cop:

Irwin apparently eats just like his farming forebears from the 1800s

  Wed. 8/10/11 3:53pm Velociraptor:

XKCD? Where is he...? BWAHAHAHAHA
Wed. 8/10/11 3:53pm Matt from Springfield:

The "New Jersey Radio Museum"? Is that some kind of front Ken & Andy established for their Lifetime Achievement Award? I bet no one will hear of it again.
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:55pm G:

@BDR -- The Marco Benevento treated paino piece? Irwin may have additional info
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:55pm Irwin:

@Peter: I'll take Buddy over Ella and Sarah any day. In fact, I'd take buddy over most jazz singers.
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:56pm hamburger:

ahoy hoy
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:58pm Nathan Detroit:

Irwin you love Ella's "Sunshine of Your Love".
  Wed. 8/10/11 3:58pm ?:

has everybody but me already remarked on the beach boys influence here on this MMJ?
Wed. 8/10/11 4:01pm Matt from Springfield:

"We represent all 500,000 Joel Clarks"--that's a new one! Great job, "A Great Many"!
Wed. 8/10/11 4:02pm Matt from Springfield:

Ahoy ahoy, hamburger!
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:03pm hamburger:

hey matt! wow, that's some pickup line, 'hey baby, can't give you anything but my dna' hah!
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:04pm Petula Clark:

The party's over now, and here am I.
Wed. 8/10/11 4:05pm Matt from Springfield:

Wed. 8/10/11 4:05pm Van in Dallas:

Okay...the velociraptor thing was an inside joke...raptors have tormented XKCD's nightmares for many years :) Meanwhile, I can't get the horse head saying "That's a battery staple" out of my head.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:07pm G:

Love is Blue in Hindi?
Wed. 8/10/11 4:08pm Matt from Springfield:

The "Love Is Blue" ripoff again! There was some discussion on another playlist; the year of original release/writing was disputed, so actually Paul Mariat may have ripped THIS off, if it was before 1968!
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:12pm Peter K.:

@Irwin, re Buddy Greco: I know how you feel about Ella and Sarah -- you dislike them because you dislike scat singing (which represented maybe 40 percent of Ella's performances and maybe 25 percent of Sarah's). Why you like Buddy Greco, I have no idea. He leaves me completely cold. Ah well, you and I don't agree politically either...
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:14pm G:

quick and dirty research says the song is in Telugu, and it appeared in a 1970 Telugug-language movie.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:15pm Lyra Cyst:

Soooome Hinnndu gods are blue,
Blue are the gods,
For instance, Vishnu...

  Wed. 8/10/11 4:16pm G:

Telugu is one of those minor languages, only 75 million speakers /irony
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:18pm Peter K.:

Buddy Greco's music makes me physically ill. And that's my final word on that subject.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:31pm Linguist:

There have been several hipster whines today. Functional translation: "I think my current taste is better than yours, and there ain't nothing you can say to do anything about that. Now that we've established my superiority, what would you like to talk about?"
Wed. 8/10/11 4:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Musical saw, all the romance of the theremin!
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:34pm Peter K.:

@Linguist: Irwin and I are old friends and enjoy needling each other about our musical tastes. I am so, so sorry if our exchange has offended you. And I am not a hipster.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:34pm T-Zero:

Heh! Let's not be knockin on the theremin now. lol
Wed. 8/10/11 4:37pm Matt from Springfield:

@OCD: That could be it, especially as the writers are the same--but remember there are several Indian movie songs with the same or similar titles. The music for "Love Is Blue" wasn't until '67, so this movie may have been first.
Wed. 8/10/11 4:38pm Matt from Springfield:

@T-Z: Actually I think the theremin (and the musical saw) are both cold in their sound, but still with a rather romantic tone to them.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:42pm Linguist:

Seems like there is a lot more virulently worded song-choice criticism today than usual -- don't people save the vitriol up for the first minute of an Amanda track? "...makes me physically ill" isn't exactly a light tone... If what you are going for is needling banter, a bantering tone might communicate better for you!
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:44pm Peter K.:

I disagree. I think that our current economic difficulties are not difficult. Oh, and I am not a hipster.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:44pm Re-education Camps:

"Creating Comfortable Consensus Since 1969"
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:45pm Peter K.:

@Linguist: Thank you so much for your feedback.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:45pm other david:

Irwin you have my vote sir. Now just move to Ireland so you can run for president.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:46pm Ike:

I can confirm that Peter K. is too old to be a hipster. :) No, really, he is. (Um, sorry Peter -- just trying to help. Did that actually make things worse? Sigh.)
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:50pm OCD:

@Matt: I think the 1965 date for the Indian version is probably a mistake. Don't believe everything on the internet.
  Wed. 8/10/11 4:51pm Irwin:

Just to forge a consensus and keep things peaceful on the comments board, I'll mollify Peter by playing another Buddy Greco track.

  Wed. 8/10/11 5:00pm tears:

you got it, re-education: christ. just one week without! just one!
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:03pm Re-education Camps:

@tears: Repetition is the mother of memory. Imprinting.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:04pm jan:

what a lovely sound- Summer by Art Circus.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:05pm Peter K.:

By the way, when I said Buddy Greco's voice makes me physically ill, that was not so much a criticism as a statement of fact. I have a rare medical condition that causes me to get sick when I hear Greco sing. I'm like the guy who had seizures when he heard Mary Hart talk. So Irwin, please keep that in mind if you decide to play another Buddy Greco track.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:08pm John McCabe in L.A.:

  Wed. 8/10/11 5:09pm Sentient Being:

Whoa, don't get me mixed up in this crap--I had nothing to do with this mess.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:09pm Bots:

Look at me! I'm posting! I'm posting! Look at me posting!
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:09pm Moderator Bot:

@SB: Now, that isn't being friendly to others on the comment board, like Irwin said.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:10pm Moderator Bot:

Psst--see how affordable Term-Life Insurance can be! CLICK HERE NOW!
(Sorry, side job y'know...)
Wed. 8/10/11 5:13pm Matt from Springfield:

"1. a. A saucy, coquettish, intriguing maidservant in comedies or comic opera.
b. An actress or a singer taking such a part.
2. A young woman regarded as flirtatious or frivolous.

[French, from Provençal soubreto, feminine of soubret, conceited, from soubra, to leave aside, from Old Provençal sobrar, to be excessive, from Latin superre, from super, above]"
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:14pm Peter K.:

By the way, Irwin, very nice show today.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:19pm Irwin:

Thanks, PK. Some Ernie Henry atcha.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:20pm Lizardner Dave:

Irwin doesn't have a TV last I read but the rest of you may have noticed that Selectquote.com is advertising on TV now. Could it be that Irwin's Tullis and Clark remixes have brought the company enough business that they can afford TV spots like the big insurance oompanies now?
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:21pm Irwin:

@LD: Haven't seen, didn't know. Are Dan & Joel featured?
Wed. 8/10/11 5:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@LDave: from Wikipedia, 14 Jun 2008:

"Tullis is currently serving as a radio and television spokesman for Select Quote Insurance, a life insurance company."

Wed. 8/10/11 5:23pm Matt from Springfield:

I've noticed mentions of TV spots going back pretty far, but I've never seen one, even though I vaguely remember a radio spot from long before Irwin featured them here.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:25pm Sam Baskfeld:

I Was Barding In it.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:29pm Lizardner Dave:

It sounds like Tulis. It also looks like these were done in 2008:
Wed. 8/10/11 5:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Check--finally heard a cover version of "It's All Too Much".
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:31pm Stanley:

Hey-Hey its Steve Cabbage!!
Wed. 8/10/11 5:35pm Matt from Springfield:

Pretty faithful cover. And wow, it's all the way back from 1976. Steve also has a version of "Hurdy Gurdy Man" on that album!
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:35pm Hugh:

You are asolutly right--*#I IT''S TOOO MU-UCH *^#
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:36pm joe:

  Wed. 8/10/11 5:38pm John McCabe in L.A.:

speaking of "all too much"
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:40pm kat330:

Noticed I'm tuning into FMU earlier on 7SD nights (when I can) just to listen to Irwin and see some clever comments. Not so mas y mas as the folks on 7SD.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:41pm Curious:

Wasn't DNA Martin one of the rat pack?
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:42pm kat330:

[Should have noted "mas" = mutual admiration society, not too many comments.]
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:43pm h4mburg3r-b0t:

omg - what's with the DNA? :)
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:43pm other david:

The retelling of this story may be the greatest moment in WFMU history :D
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:45pm Robert:

Hey, just like nighttime commercial talk radio, where you rerun an hour from 3 hrs. earlier. This mmust be the big time!
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:47pm Elisa:

YOU SUCK!!!! LO really L!!!!
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:48pm Curious:

Define "YOU".
Wed. 8/10/11 5:49pm Matt from Springfield:

@OD: YES! That was totally Andy! I was I could say we're still talking about it in DC to this day, but it seems everyone just wants to forget! :)
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:52pm Elisa:

Nobody and everybody...I guess...I just had to say it...I guess we all suck at something to a certain extent.
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:54pm Curious:

@Elisa: Totally agreed! CONSENSUS FTW
Wed. 8/10/11 5:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Unfortunately I have to miss TWO 7SDs in a row!
But I'm glad I made it to such a great show of Irwin's!
Have a good night everybody!
  Wed. 8/10/11 5:58pm ...:
