Dan B:
Yes, there's always a bit of a lag between posting a comment and when it actually appears on the playlist. It's because our playlist servers are on Saturn. so the comment has to be beamed out, bounce off of Uranus, arrive at the servers on Saturn, then be sent back here to our computers. It takes a few seconds for all that.

When the comments reach Saturn, Sun Ra has to personally check each person has added the numbers up correctly too. It may not be efficient, but it works damnit.

(King & Queen) heard this on Mary Wings show. Like it. Illaiyaraaja seems to be popular on WMFU this week.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 10:37pm
dave:
if SP Sailaja's baby was not shaking it after that exhortation, i'm not sure what could possible cause the shaking to commence.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 10:40pm
Parq:
Dan, yeah, the Pondo Stomp show was a great one, as was the listener meet-up beforehand. I regret only that you didn't get to wear one of those swell mustard broadcasting blazers. You would have looked quite dashing in it.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 10:55pm
T-Zero:
That's a nice little trilogy you created there, Dan B. (Nico, Welch, Espers)
|
Mon. 8/1/11 10:56pm
cheri:
hello dan & julie--- julie i hope you read my e-mail,,, if so,, what are your thoughts on it??
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:11pm
Dan B:
Hi Cheri -- not sure if Julie's still on the playlist, but I'll mention the email to her when I see her after the show
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:12pm
Dan B:
@T-Zero -- thanks -- glad you liked that. I worked on that one.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:12pm
Dan B:
@parq - yeah, I *totally* want a mustard broadcast blazer!!
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:13pm
other david:
Still not so sure of the wisdom in calling ones band, Sun Araw - but heard them do a live set on WFMU a few weeks back and they're pretty excellent Really liked the Espers & PG Six, but the latter wound up annoying me because the guitar sounded similar to another song - which I can't place, hence frustration
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:14pm
cheri:
g'night dan thank you very much,,
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:16pm
T-Zero:
@other david: Kind of like trying to ride the coat tail of Sun Ra huh?
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:16pm
Dan B:
@Other david -- I kinda like the name - a bit of a tribute to Sun Ra with a little twist on it to make it its own name. But I can see how it could put one off a little. They're great though, and at least their name isn't something puerile like "Puffy Areolas" or "Fucked Up" or "Pissed Jeans." I just can't bring myself to bother with bands with names like that anymore. Not sure what the PG Six sounded like.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:17pm
T-Zero:
Ok. The comment frame is always a little slow, but this is *really* slow.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:21pm
Kat:
Dan, I'm with you re the stupid band names. Excellent show tonight. Heading home from work soon but hope to catch the rest of it on my phone.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:22pm
Jerry Garcia:
Today is my birthday. I just ate some pure, Crystalline LSD and a large cheesecake. Can you play some backwards Banjo music as a birthday gift? or something similarly weird. Thanks, Jer
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:23pm
daupo:
Particularly strong show tonight. I've been in and out, but loved everything I've heard. Cheers!
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:24pm
Dan B:
Oh Jer, I will *definitely* play some backwards banjo music for you, what a great idea! Thanks, DB. @Daupo - thanks!!
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:25pm
T-Zero:
@Dam B: I see your point and would agree more if there full name was something like Eternal Tapestry OF Sun Araw (for instance) rather than just Sun Araw. Though I guess there could be an intentional pun allusive there... Son of Ra
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:27pm
other david:
hehe Dan, yeah I like the tribute aspect - I think my main issue is with it on radio - I can imagine someone who never heard of Sun Ra trying to find out about them after mishearing a DJ.. and being mighty confused. The PG Six thing.. it was all about the slideyish guitar, I think it may have been something like Pink Floyd - bear in mind it's 4:20am here and may be somewhat worse for wear though. Regarding names.. I find myself a bit irritated by some of the portentious titles bands increasingly lend to simple instrumentals - I sometimes think they have to be taking the piss and the tracks are about, walking to the shop, rather than pondering a postcard from 1952, for example.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:27pm
T-Zero:
WOOops. Damn typos. Really not trying to curse you. lol
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:28pm
Matt from Berwyn PA:
THIS SONG!!! | |
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:29pm
other david:
btw Dan what did your sister make of her WFMU experience last week?
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:30pm
Ike:
@Kat and @Dan B, agreed on those band names. Well, Fucked Up isn't bad -- it's simple, but the other two = such totally grodey imagery. Also Puffy Ar----s were not good live at Cake Shop. Just pure ear-drilling, face-slamming-into-brick feedback and screaming. And not the good kind.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:31pm
T-Zero:
@other david Heh, I *really* need to get some sleep myself, but trying to hang in here for another 30 minutes before tearing myself away.
|
Mon. 8/1/11 11:33pm
Dan B:
Sarah loved coming to visit! Hopefully she can come back another time. I'm waiting for DJ Pikachu to get old enough to stay up with me in the studio on Monday nights.

I am late, and I wish you were playing something less lovely so I'd feel less regret.

THIS backwards banjo is the best thing EVER in the history of EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE!
