Tue. 7/19/11 12:33pm
tonyc:
He builded a house.... | |
|
Tue. 7/19/11 12:46pm
tonyc:
It's probably a sign of mental disintegration, but I've been getting into this kind of '70s AOR pomp rock recently.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 12:47pm
tonyc:
Like the Alexis & Northwind tracks, I mean....
|
Tue. 7/19/11 12:56pm
mark:
Googled Alexis for heck of it and someone on a blog likened them to "Pablo Cruise meets Head East meets Chicago". What an endorsement! - or is it?
|
Tue. 7/19/11 12:59pm
n davis:
I'm betting AOR will be the next big thing on MP3 blogs. That Alexis track is really good!
|

J J:
I was thinking some of these bands are like the ones you have no problem finding their used LPs in every dusty thrift store. No shortage of Pablo Cruise.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:01pm
tonyc:
Well, in fact, I have picked up most of the Head East LPs in thrift stores and dollar bins out here. Coming soon to Give the Drummer Radio.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:02pm
tonyc:
Pablo Cruise I haven't had the courage to check out yet, though...
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:11pm
J J:
Having browsed many a thrift bins, there must have been an period of time in the 70's when it seemed a lot of bands posed shirtless on their album covers. Now it's mostly solo rap artists that do it.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:12pm
tonyc:
Pablo Cruise also seems to always pose with wet hair....
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:13pm
Jeremy:
Have any other artists done a Two Virgins style completely naked LP cover?
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:16pm
Conrad:
Yay for obscure new wave! See, kids, The Waitresses did more than "Christmas Wrapping" and "I Know What Boys Like."
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:16pm
tonyc:
Hey Jeremy! Here's one: <a href="http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/on_the_seventh_day/on_the_seventh_day___/"><img src="http://static.rateyourmusic.com/album_images/s177404.jpg" alt="On the Seventh Day - On the Seventh Day..."></a>
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:20pm
tonyc:
In case that endless link doesn't work, the band I meant is On the Seventh Day
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:20pm
Jeremy:

|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:29pm
J J:
I found this article that says specific year revivals are all the rage and currently the fashionable year is 1988. http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/jul/17/one-year-counts-1980s-1988
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:31pm
tonyc:
Uh oh -- not sure if there's anything from '88 in today's show.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:32pm
tonyc:
Tho by the time the show's over, another year will probably be the it year....
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:33pm
Jeremy:

|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:37pm
Jeremy:
But, officer, I've already been collared! Love JB...I have been on a Bender bender since getting the reissues.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:44pm
tonyc:
I once saw a woman with a John Bender tee-shirt on sitting in a cafe. Turned out she had bought it back in the '80s but had no idea who he was.

|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:55pm
tonyc:
Brian: Did Phil Coulter write that? When I first started at FMU a rumor circulated for a bit that I was Phil Coulter's younger brother
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:57pm
Brian in UK:
I thought he wrote that & several of Sandie Shaws' hits. Phil Coulter co wrote Puppet on a String for the Eurovision Song Contest.
|
Tue. 7/19/11 1:58pm

Brian in UK:
I met a guy couple of years ago at a gig and he mentioned PFM for some odd reason as it was a Hellwood gig. He was suitably taken aback when I pronounced the groups name fully (cannot spell it though)

|
Tue. 7/19/11 2:32pm
Kay:
Side=The Romantic Side of Schizophrenia Yester=Just Yesterday Wise=(your upcoming song choice)
