Listener comments!

  3:01am
helsingfred:

You have a great responsibility, filling in for Julie! Vaya con Dios!
  3:04am
Amanda:

I know it! Thanks for joining me, and welcome back.
  3:05am
fred:

Hi Amanda! I hope your fill-in schedule will let me hear more of your show soon
  3:09am
Amanda:

Whoa, double Freds. I feel the same way you do, Fred 2. I love doing the fill-ins. I have a regular web show too.
  3:10am
helsingfred:

Hah no I think he might be Fred 1 cos I chose this moniker to avoid a multiple fred pile-up on interstate twelve
  3:16am
Amanda:

Just to clarify: the two of you are equal in my esteem.
  3:17am
(mta) Tony:

Anyone still here from The Prof.'s previous show? Nice segue, Amanda; but how long can you keep it up? We'll be listening...
  3:19am
helsingfred:

duct tape ?
  3:20am
(mta) Tony:

Duct tape always works. Good idea, Fred #2...
  3:21am
Matt from Springfield:

I HATE Mondays too!
Glad to catch you live Amanda, if only the first hour!

Hello to all the Julie regulars!
  3:22am
(mta) Tony:

Hi Matt, I'm here, too; good to see ya, buddy.
  3:23am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Tony!
Great 80s set so far!
  3:24am
Amanda:

Hi Matt, thanks for checking in here. Hi MTA Tony! I have fixed the mysterious problem!
  3:25am
yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

Woe what a great set so far. Being stuck in a traffic jam from hell and have XTC in my ears- I love life
  3:34am
(mta) Tony:

I thought I was, "the mysterious problem," that problem being, how to eliminate my comment. After I posted it, I read it on the screen, and I noticed the poor wording allowing for the perfect reply, "that's what she said." I thought I accidentally offended you by asking you how long you could keep "IT" up, get it? So I thought you were trying to read the procedure for deleting a comment. I guess I was paranoid, but more accurately, I'm overly sensitive. Hope ya got a laugh out of it, and I'm glad it wasn't me; or was it? Hey, it was an accident. I meant, "...keep it GOING," not necessarily "up."
  3:37am
Adam in Portland:

Heyyyyy, Amanda, excited to listen to your show live tonight!
  3:37am
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: I remember this block was the first time you broadcast on the station, and I just happened to catch you on with Julie and Bridget...and I would definitely shortlist you for Dark Night fill-ins--your tastes overlap with Julie!

@Yair: Greetings! You know I might want to buy myself an iPhone, just so I can listen to WFMU anywhere!
  3:40am
helsingfred:

DJ tech talk! What was the problem? Inquiring minds want to know :)
  3:41am
Matt from Springfield:

These people are just a Flash and the Pan!
  3:42am
Amanda:

Hi Adam! I am just as pleased as you!

Hi Yair -- glad the drive can be made more pleasant by these sounds...

Matt - yes, and I remember how nice you guys all were to us. Thanks again, months later. It feels like a really long time ago.
  3:43am
pierre:

bonjour bonjour all !
good to hear this show, if Julie watching, i said "hi" !
  3:44am
Amanda:

helsingfred & Tony: I still don't know what the problem was! It involved playing a track off a laptop. I twiddled a few cables and it suddenly worked fine. (How's that for innuendo?)

Bonjour Pierre! I will tell her you said so.
  3:44am
Matt from Springfield:

Bonjour Pierre!
Hi Adam!

I'm seeing these guys in Chapel Hill, July 9th!!
  3:46am
(mta) Tony:

Amanda, was that song, "Captain Beware," something you would consider to be Flash's #2 hit? I liked it a lot; never heard it.
  3:47am
Adam in Portland:

Hey, Matt! Glad to see all the familiar names up here, and the ones new to me as well. :-)
  3:47am
Amanda:

MTA Tony, I would consider it to be very awesome, but I don't know whether it was a hit for them.
  3:48am
Marmalade kitty:

Hi Amanda, everyone! Two mornings in a row! Fab show :)
  3:52am
helsingfred:

never seen aimie mann live. seriously want to.
  3:54am
helsingfred:

What's your DJ SW? Traktor? Mixx? Sumpink else? Last week a buddy actually DJ'd a gig on an iPad2 using djay and he says it went just great. There's only two decks, but hey what the heck, it's all Star Trek.
  3:56am
(mta) Tony:

It seems, "Down Among the Dead," was their other hit, according to what I read. Couldn't find a review on "Lights In the Night."
  3:56am
Matt from Springfield:

I suppose Til Tuesday was played frequently back in their day, but it's disgusting how their gorgeous album songs like "The other end of the Telescope" aren't heard around anymore, except here!
  3:56am
Amanda:

Gasp! I would never reveal my DJ software!

Hi Marmalade Kitty!
  3:57am
pierre:

Amanda ? are you the Amanda of the "concrete nipples" and all those amazing songs ?
  3:58am
Matt from Springfield:

This is a Kinks I haven't heard before--dig Ray's vocals as usual, even the obligatory late 70s disco bass! Do you know if this is a single only, or if this was from "Low Budget" or another album?
  3:59am
Matt from Springfield:

Yes! "Low Budget", to answer my own question!
@pierre: No, she's just a superb FMU volunteer/board op and now DJ with the name "Amanda"!
  4:03am
helsingfred:

A-ha, our DJ has her secret weapons... among them being duct tape
  4:04am
Matt from Springfield:

George! From "A Hard Day's Night"!
  4:08am
Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: Did your swag arrive? Mine just arrived this weekend (a whole BUNCH of swag!) and earlier tonight I was going through the new "Amanda" CD from Irwin! It's got the best tracks played throughout last year!
  4:09am
hamburger / london:

hey you alls - two days in a row Amanda... dejavu!
  4:10am
helsingfred:

Julie should be checking in on the chat board right about now. Or maybe she's in a pub already...?
  4:11am
hamburger / london:

hey Matt - did your swag come in one big box?
  4:12am
pierre:

yeah the swag arrived… no Amanda cd for me :(
can't wait for the next marathon…
  4:13am
Marmalade kitty:

I recieved my swag nearly 2 months ago haha! :)
  4:13am
Amanda:

Matt, that is the million-dollar answer. I think you're the first person who's ever identified it publicly.

Hey hamburger! I know, I shouldn't get used to this graveyard shift -- it will mess up my biorhythms something awful. But it's been fun.
  4:13am
Matt from Springfield:

@hamburger: Mine wasn't in a rectangular box, but it was in a big padded envelope, sealed with tape. I got a couple T-shirts, so my CDs and other trinkets were wrapped in the middle of the shirts! Inner/outer layers! Thanks Joe! :)
  4:16am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: I noticed our overseas friends reported getting their swag very soon after Marathon. Maybe my stuff with yours, via Asia and Europe, and I had to wait for it to come back around :)
  4:17am
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: Aw shucks, just trying to help ya keep things clear! :) Actually you had said it during that show with Kurt, but I suppose people are always going to wonder, since your names are the same!
  4:18am
Marmalade kitty:

swag on a holiday world tour? :)
  4:20am
Amanda:

Matt -- no, I meant the George soundbite!
  4:23am
Matt from Springfield:

Ahhhh...really? I love "A Hard Day's Night", with all the Beatles fans and at least some film classes going over that, I'm surprised no one else has spotted that before!! Well, I'm honored to be the "unmasker" of that clip! ;)

This is about the time my Midnight Oil is burnt out, and my 4 am Oil is burning out, so I bid you adieu! Great show!
Goodnight everybody!
  4:26am
Marmalade kitty:

goodnight, sleep well matt!
  4:26am
helsingfred:

DCD is so cool. Can anyone suggest any others bands in this vein?
  4:27am
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks! "See" you later!
  4:37am
hamburger / london:

hahaha 15 mins ago my glow in the dark posters just came in, and then there was a fire alarm in the building!
  4:39am
Amanda:

Oh no! Hope it was just a drill and your poster is unharmed.
  4:40am
hamburger / london:

yea just a drill :) poster's fab!
  4:47am
helsingfred:

Yeow! That one blasted out! Had to lunge for the volume knob :)
  4:50am
Amanda:

Haha! Glad to hear it.
  4:57am
Marmalade kitty:

Mudhoney!!!!!
  4:57am
procedura:

  5:13am
pierre:

i love the Cramps !
and i love Ricky Nelson !

  5:19am
the anchovy:

This is an awesome show, thanks Amanda!!!
@Pierre: this Lonesome Town cover is a blast :)
  5:23am
Amanda:

I love that cover so much too. For a long time it was the only Cramps song I owned. Thanks for the nice words, both of youze!
  5:25am
pierre:

Salut the Anchovy !
  5:25am
helsingfred:

yes Silence this cranks
  5:28am
Amanda:

:-)
  5:29am
the anchovy:

@ Amanda : I'm pretty good fan of the Fever cover from the Cramps as well (shivering!)
@Pierre : Hell-to-the-o!
  5:32am
helsingfred:

i would admit to the odd attack of at-home portishead karaoke but it would be way totally embarrassing
  5:37am
pierre:

any (most) covers by the Cramps is good cover
  5:40am
Amanda:

helsingfred -- aren't you glad I didn't sing this time??? I don't think my voice can handle it
  5:43am
(mta) Tony:

Congratulations, Amanda; you've kept it up all night. Great show; I'm a new fan of yours!
  5:46am
helsingfred:

omg the clock's a-tickin'
  5:47am
Amanda:

no duct tape needed!
  5:56am
helsingfred:

Hey hey today's DJ we gotta say that what you play is... audioriffic!
  5:57am
Marmalade kitty:

Is Glen Jones too lazy to create song playlists?
  5:59am
Amanda:

Thanks helsingfred! And thanks to you all for hanging in there for the whole show!

MK, a lot of DJs prefer not to use playlists. They have a variety of reasons for it... I can see the arguments both pro and con.
  6:03am
Marmalade kitty:

He played a song last sunday.. that song has been going around..etc in my head, and i can't remember the name or any of the lyrics! Hmm..!??
  11:17am
Lizardner Dave:

Listened to the two overnights on archive while I was at work, great shows as always Amanda.
  11:51am
Tim:

Nice fill-in show, Amanda. :)
  1:05pm
Van:

About halfway through listening to this through the magic of Archive...nice job Amanda. I think you made Julie proud.
  2:46pm
Julie (no longer) London:

Yay Amanda! can't wait to listen to this!
