Cecile I saw Pina recently thought you might like it. do not know if has reached you yet, here's a link http://www.pina-film.de/en/pina-bausch.html Duane I am Brain the typo with depressing regularity.

Cecile:
What is it about, Brian? And thanks for thinking of me!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:16pm
Cecile:
I did see Kung Fu Panda II yesterday. It had a bit of psychological texture for a cartoon not intended for adults. And it was quite scary in spots, and some genius brought their 4 year old. To a PG movie. Of course the kid was screaming in terror. And had to be taken out. Anyway, it's visually amazing. Even if you don't like the story, and I do, there is so much detail and so many art styles that it's just a feast for the eyes. Very inspiring!

Brian in UK:
To precis. Dancer called Pina Bausch. Wim Wenders was making a film about her life, unfortunately she died during filming. Light on biography, dancers in her troupe talking about her influence & dancing in various environments. Enjoyment of dance is preferable though I am marginal on that score. Some wonderful dancing & expression of feelings through movement.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:19pm
Cecile:
I do love dance movies. I will have to see it. Another good thing with KFP II is that there was no annoying pop song tied to it - "soundtrack available on Varese Sarabande" records. Proper.

Is there Air on Neptune?

Wed. 6/15/11 12:21pm
northguineahills:
33hz, not to be confused w/ 33.3 (the band)
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:21pm
Duane:
33.3 "where to now" is classic!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:23pm
Brian in UK:
What is the most bizarre remix you know that bears little or no relation with the original?
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:25pm
Duane:
Aphex Twin once remixed Jesus Jones and didn't use one note of the OG..it was really great!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:26pm
Cecile:
I heard a Paul Oakenfold remix of Shannon's Let The Music play that was only tangentally connected to the song.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:27pm
Brian in UK:
Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp by Mercury Rev (The Chemical Brothers Remix) left be completely baffled. No recognition of the original. But hey.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:28pm
Cecile:
Duane, are you familiar with Chungking? They were a British triphop group that also nodded more than a little to Dr. Buzzard.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:28pm
northguineahills:
Merzbow remixing Pan Sonic , but you already knew that.....
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:29pm
Nick Smoocher:
Some serious flanger on that 6th Borough Project. Just what I needed today. Cheers Duane!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:29pm
Cecile:
Bordoms remixing/redoing The Mekons' Where Were You.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:29pm
northguineahills:
or.... Richard James remixing the Lemonheads, he purportedly used a gabba tape when asked to the remix.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:30pm
BSI:
About half the content of the SACRILEGE comp of Can remixes was pretty remote...
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:30pm
Duane:
Pan Sonic remixing Merzbow was pretty monstrous!!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:31pm
Cecile:
DAMN. that was a seg. | |
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:31pm
james stacheroni:
great stuff so far duane!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:31pm
northguineahills:
"...when asked FOR the remix." My grammar sucks!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:32pm
Ike:
Aphex Twin did a bunch of remixes that had nothing to do with the original songs, didn't he? His remix of Curve's "Falling Free" is great at 33 *or* at 45 RPM but probably doesn't contain any of the original. (Maybe a touch of the vocals?)
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:37pm
Brian in UK:
Great set. | |
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:41pm
Carmichael:
This song suddenly reminded me of Robert Palmer's slow, slinky version of the Kinks' You Really Got Me. Off of Double Fun, I believe.

Wed. 6/15/11 12:41pm
Handsome Harry:
Diggi'n on "Whore Your Love."

Wed. 6/15/11 12:43pm
Brian in UK:
Carmichael. Early Robert Palmer. Peerless.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:44pm

This song could be cut down like 5 minutes.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:45pm
Carmichael:
Then what the hell would the guitar player do?!?!?
|
Wed. 6/15/11 12:46pm

Lean it up against an amp and walk away like a boss.

Wed. 6/15/11 1:02pm

Cecille: Frankie Valli did an amazing record for Motown in '71. Rare, never went anywhere, but really lovely

Wed. 6/15/11 1:27pm

Hubba:
nacho bizna$$ | |
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:31pm
Cecile:
Cool! it was such a great "Unsung". Nobody leaves the Spinners forever unless you die. They consider everyone who's in that group their family. Nice guys. I think they would have gotten more credit if they were a little younger and/or more crazy.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:32pm
Cecile:
But 19 Top Ten R&B hits in the 70s, many of which crossed over to the Pop and Dance charts. And they're not in the Rock 'n' Roll hall of fame!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:34pm
Duane:
Cecille: Huge Spinners fan! Did you see the OJays episode of Unsung? They had a crazy number of hits and they haven't been inducted either. Phillipe Wynne's one of my fave adlib vocalists ever..just for "Knee Deep" alone!
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:37pm
Cecile:
I know! It's really stupid. they talked about that, too. How Wynne's mind would be working faster than the music - that he was like a freestyle rapper, except he sang.

Duane, the O'Jays are in the Hall. Inducted in '05.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:51pm
Cecile:
yair, I have no complaints. You get bonus points for typing in a foreign language.
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:51pm
Duane:
Cecille: Oh good! All's not lost:)
|
Wed. 6/15/11 1:53pm
Cecile:
And Funkadelic's in there. And the Isleys. Still a lot of omissions. And personally, I'd love to throw the Eagles out of there. I think the first five years were the best, looking at the inductees - all major game-changing talents.

The Spinners are in that movie about the Ali/Foreman fight in Africa. They're pretty great. They opened the show that James Brown capped off. Worth checking out. Forget the name of the doc, though.

Duaniac, I didn't even know you had a show these days - the only thing I like more than your music is your commentary. Thanks for a great afternoon!

Robert:
I know, nobody's asking me, and there may have been a million other consider'ns that Im not aware of, and we're lucky to have these people at all, but...IMO this would've been much better Fri. night, Sat., or Sun., and with the Minotaurs staying where they were.
