Listener comments!

  Wed. 6/15/11 12:05pm Danne D:

Congrats on the new gig Duane!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:06pm siggi:

awsome tune to kick it off with
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:06pm Deli Man:

Duane is now the filling in the Ken-Irwin sandwich.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:07pm Cecile:

Duane!!!! I liked the messed up track at the beginning, very Gottshalkian. Yay!
Wed. 6/15/11 12:07pm Brian in UK:

Hello Diane sorry Duane.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:07pm Carmichael:

Hi Duane, new listener (to your show) here. Thus far, thus good.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:09pm Duane:

Thanx for the positives everybody...Always a comedian in the bunch, Brian? Haha
Wed. 6/15/11 12:10pm Two Years of Fill Ins:

Patience is a Necessity.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:10pm BSI:

Let us do this thing.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:11pm 12539:

Welcome, Duane.
Wed. 6/15/11 12:12pm Brian in UK:

Cecile I saw Pina recently thought you might like it. do not know if has reached you yet, here's a link
http://www.pina-film.de/en/pina-bausch.html

Duane I am Brain the typo with depressing regularity.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:13pm Cecile:

What is it about, Brian? And thanks for thinking of me!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:16pm Cecile:

I did see Kung Fu Panda II yesterday. It had a bit of psychological texture for a cartoon not intended for adults. And it was quite scary in spots, and some genius brought their 4 year old. To a PG movie. Of course the kid was screaming in terror. And had to be taken out.

Anyway, it's visually amazing. Even if you don't like the story, and I do, there is so much detail and so many art styles that it's just a feast for the eyes. Very inspiring!
Wed. 6/15/11 12:18pm Brian in UK:

To precis. Dancer called Pina Bausch. Wim Wenders was making a film about her life, unfortunately she died during filming. Light on biography, dancers in her troupe talking about her influence & dancing in various environments. Enjoyment of dance is preferable though I am marginal on that score. Some wonderful dancing & expression of feelings through movement.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:19pm Cecile:

I do love dance movies. I will have to see it.

Another good thing with KFP II is that there was no annoying pop song tied to it - "soundtrack available on Varese Sarabande" records. Proper.
Wed. 6/15/11 12:19pm Brian in UK:

Is there Air on Neptune?
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:21pm northguineahills:

33hz, not to be confused w/ 33.3 (the band)
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:21pm Duane:

33.3 "where to now" is classic!
Wed. 6/15/11 12:23pm Brian in UK:

What is the most bizarre remix you know that bears little or no relation with the original?
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:25pm Duane:

Aphex Twin once remixed Jesus Jones and didn't use one note of the OG..it was really great!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:26pm Cecile:

I heard a Paul Oakenfold remix of Shannon's Let The Music play that was only tangentally connected to the song.
Wed. 6/15/11 12:27pm Brian in UK:

Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp by Mercury Rev (The Chemical Brothers Remix) left be completely baffled. No recognition of the original. But hey.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:28pm Cecile:

Duane, are you familiar with Chungking? They were a British triphop group that also nodded more than a little to Dr. Buzzard.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:28pm northguineahills:

Merzbow remixing Pan Sonic , but you already knew that.....
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:29pm Nick Smoocher:

Some serious flanger on that 6th Borough Project. Just what I needed today. Cheers Duane!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:29pm Cecile:

Bordoms remixing/redoing The Mekons' Where Were You.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:29pm northguineahills:

or.... Richard James remixing the Lemonheads, he purportedly used a gabba tape when asked to the remix.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:30pm BSI:

About half the content of the SACRILEGE comp of Can remixes was pretty remote...
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:30pm Duane:

Pan Sonic remixing Merzbow was pretty monstrous!!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:31pm Cecile:

DAMN. that was a seg.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:31pm james stacheroni:

great stuff so far duane!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:31pm northguineahills:

"...when asked FOR the remix." My grammar sucks!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:32pm Ike:

Aphex Twin did a bunch of remixes that had nothing to do with the original songs, didn't he? His remix of Curve's "Falling Free" is great at 33 *or* at 45 RPM but probably doesn't contain any of the original. (Maybe a touch of the vocals?)
Wed. 6/15/11 12:37pm Brian in UK:

Great set.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:41pm Carmichael:

This song suddenly reminded me of Robert Palmer's slow, slinky version of the Kinks' You Really Got Me. Off of Double Fun, I believe.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:41pm Handsome Harry:

Diggi'n on "Whore Your Love."
Wed. 6/15/11 12:43pm Brian in UK:

Carmichael. Early Robert Palmer. Peerless.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:44pm Harder:

This song could be cut down like 5 minutes.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:45pm Carmichael:

Then what the hell would the guitar player do?!?!?
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:46pm Harder:

Lean it up against an amp and walk away like a boss.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:47pm BSI:

NOOOOOOO! BAILEY, NOOOO! Herb's no good for you!!!!!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:49pm paul:

THANK YOU B ASED GOD
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:52pm AnAnonymousParty:

All you face are belong to us.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:52pm J J:

The last two track names were meshing together. I read it as Whore for your face at first glance.
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:52pm northguineahills:

Lil B, nice!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:56pm northguineahills:

ok, got to shut down the stream for work purposes, be back soon!
  Wed. 6/15/11 12:59pm Cecile:

wow, Frankie's vocals are really lovely here.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:02pm Duane:

Cecille: Frankie Valli did an amazing record for Motown in '71. Rare, never went anywhere, but really lovely
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:06pm Dustin Hoffman:

"I'm walkin' here!"
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:08pm paul:

yay City Center!!!!!
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:18pm J J:

That guitar sound never gets old.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:19pm Matt:

Dang, nice blouse
Wed. 6/15/11 1:19pm That Guitar Sound:

I'm timeless.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:20pm Slacks:

meh.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:21pm Bryan:

It's all abt the Cocteau Twins in BK this summer. In a good way.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:22pm james stacheroni:

feeling these last few songs. afternoon vibez
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:23pm Cecile:

Duane is the Frankie Valli record on the torrents?
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:24pm Duane:

Cecille: It should be. I have friends who've been able to locate it
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:27pm Cecile:

Thanks. Saw a doc on the Spinners yesterday - are the Phillippe Wynne solo albums any good?
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:29pm ,comma:

.dot is just redundant.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:30pm Duane:

Cecile: The last one he did for Sugar Hill is really underrated imo
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:30pm Hubba:

nacho bizna$$
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:31pm Cecile:

Cool! it was such a great "Unsung". Nobody leaves the Spinners forever unless you die. They consider everyone who's in that group their family. Nice guys. I think they would have gotten more credit if they were a little younger and/or more crazy.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:32pm Cecile:

But 19 Top Ten R&B hits in the 70s, many of which crossed over to the Pop and Dance charts. And they're not in the Rock 'n' Roll hall of fame!
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:34pm Duane:

Cecille: Huge Spinners fan! Did you see the OJays episode of Unsung? They had a crazy number of hits and they haven't been inducted either. Phillipe Wynne's one of my fave adlib vocalists ever..just for "Knee Deep" alone!
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:37pm Cecile:

I know! It's really stupid.

they talked about that, too. How Wynne's mind would be working faster than the music - that he was like a freestyle rapper, except he sang.
Wed. 6/15/11 1:44pm yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

Hold tight is suck a killer
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:46pm Duane:

yair: suck a killer, eh? It is pretty vampy!
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:48pm AnAnonymousParty:

Just don't show it over the internet.
Wed. 6/15/11 1:48pm yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

Give me a break, I'm testing while walking the dog, give me some credit here;)
Wed. 6/15/11 1:50pm Billy Dee Willaims:

Hey, is that me?
Wed. 6/15/11 1:50pm yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

TEXTING!
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:50pm Cecile:

Duane, the O'Jays are in the Hall. Inducted in '05.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:51pm Cecile:

yair, I have no complaints. You get bonus points for typing in a foreign language.
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:51pm Duane:

Cecille: Oh good! All's not lost:)
  Wed. 6/15/11 1:53pm Cecile:

And Funkadelic's in there. And the Isleys. Still a lot of omissions. And personally, I'd love to throw the Eagles out of there. I think the first five years were the best, looking at the inductees - all major game-changing talents.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:01pm AnAnonymousParty:

"Hey, Larabell, do you know how to sing far away?"
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:04pm Henry:

The Spinners are in that movie about the Ali/Foreman fight in Africa. They're pretty great. They opened the show that James Brown capped off. Worth checking out. Forget the name of the doc, though.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:06pm Josh:

Duaniac, I didn't even know you had a show these days - the only thing I like more than your music is your commentary. Thanks for a great afternoon!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:07pm Robert:

I know, nobody's asking me, and there may have been a million other consider'ns that Im not aware of, and we're lucky to have these people at all, but...IMO this would've been much better Fri. night, Sat., or Sun., and with the Minotaurs staying where they were.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:07pm Cecile:

Yes! They had some footage from that Henry. Was it called "When we Were Kings?"
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:07pm Dominick:

Ali / Forman doc
"When We Were Kings
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:08pm Cecile:

Ha. My memory can still work sometimes.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:09pm Mike East:

that movie was awesome!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:10pm Cecile:

I gotta rent it.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:10pm J J:

Yo Duane, you really know how to mix it up. Love it.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:10pm AnAnonymousParty:

It's funky Johnny Quest!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:15pm Duane:

Josh: AAAAHAHAHA!! Thanx for listening!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:16pm Cecile:

wow this sounds like the Cyrkle.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:19pm Dominick:

Paging Curt Boettcher
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:22pm Cecile:

This has that Invicta sound...
Wed. 6/15/11 2:22pm yair yona (tel aviv, Earth):

@Cecile - you're too kind
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:27pm Cecile:

Yes. mayer!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:37pm fleep:

Music To Watch The Eclipse By

Thanks, Duane!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:39pm Parq:

If I may, I think the post did not refer to "When We Were Kings" but to "Soul Power", the documentary about the concert that accompanied the prizefight.

Sounding great, Duane.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:42pm Cecile:

Yes. I love house versions of gospel.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:45pm Cecile:

SYLVESTER
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:45pm northguineahills:

Cecile, you just love house!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:45pm Cecile:

Yeah, I have to cop to that.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:46pm Hubba:

"heart of gold" has been on repeat, thanks for some sf boogie
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:47pm Hubba:

"band fo gold" 'scuse
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:48pm Hubba:

my new band name "band fo' gold"
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:49pm Cecile:

The Amazon reviews of this are great. Lots of first hand stories from folks at the show.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:50pm Cecile:

sang it.
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:50pm Drummer Some:

I remember seeing the drummer Jack DeJohnette performing in '79 or '80 wearing a pink t-shirt with silver sparkles spelling out "You Make Me Feel Mighty Real."
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:51pm Mike East:

I was in a band for a brief spell called Band of Gold
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:52pm Lorange:

were you a BAND FO' GOLD?
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:53pm Lorange:

Megatron Man on synth, what did he say?
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:54pm Duane:

Patrick Cowley on synths!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:55pm Lorange:

So it was Megatron Man!
  Wed. 6/15/11 2:57pm Chance:

Killer show! Thanks very much for all the great music!
