Matt from Springfield:
You're just a marionette--or else just a comic drawing?? How was London, Julie!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:04am
fred:
Good morning Julie, I'm glad you didn't take the summer off
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:04am
pete ( once again ):
Julie, this is great. I never heard this Abba song before.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:06am
helsingfred:

|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:13am
pete ( once again ):
yayayayayayayayayaya for playing Kristen young!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to her concert sunday
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:15am
Matt from Springfield:
@pete: Aw man, see the concert for all of us! I look forward to seeing her live one day, I'm sure many other listeners do too!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:16am
helsingfred:
I think I'm a newly minted kristeen young fan!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:16am
pete ( once again ):
I sure will. And its ALL because of you that I heard her music first on WFMU. I plan on buying all her music and putting her stuff into rotation on my show.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:17am
Matt from Springfield:
@Julie: Have you looked into London record stores yet? Four years ago there was a bunch of good ones in Notting Hill Gate, between Hyde Park and Portobello Road. They had several departments and varieties of genres.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:18am
KP:
i could swear that's my copy of Millie the Model.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:21am
Julie:
I really haven't, Matt. All I know is Resurrection in Camden.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:22am
Matt from Springfield:
That reminds me, Pete: You had mentioned during your show that Julie was sending emails to you, but I didn't recall you saying or posting your email. Could you share it with the class here?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:23am
Matt from Springfield:
Hmm, depends where you're going to be; Camden is farther from the city center, but if you're more "downtown" that's a good district to check out.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:28am
pete ( once again ):
Matt I do not recall mentioning her sending me any emails. I did mention she was tuning in via the internet and streaming the show.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:28am
Brick Van Dee:
Wow, not heard Serge's "Nazi" stuff before.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:29am
helsingfred:
Serge can qualify as today's dose of French pop
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:30am
Julie:
Hi Brick! Hi HF! | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:31am
Matt from Springfield:
@pete: Oh, I thought you were saying Julie had emailed that she was streaming in...in that case it was the same as me! No email, then?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:37am
Matt from Springfield:
Wow, never heard of Rosewater Elizabeth. Apparently an ethereal group from Tampa Bay in the 90s--did you just learn about them Julie, or are you a longtime fan?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:38am
Julie:
Longtime fan, Matt. Fairly certain I've played them before. In fact they might be on my Premium.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:42am
Matt from Springfield:
Ah, still awaiting my swag...I did just received the much-anticipated Best Show 2010 DVD, so things are workin' through the pipeline.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:42am
Matt from Springfield:
Not nearly as fast as the Internet though. Now that's a SERIES of pipelines...
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:42am
Julie:
Yes apparently Corn Weenie is out as well.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:43am
helsingfred:
my swag hit finland about two weeks ago, so no prob there
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:44am
Julie:
Yay for swag! I STILL haven't filled out my darn swag form
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:45am
Matt from Springfield:
Oooh, a "storytelling" Ray Davies. Like Ray, but even more so! @Julie: But you are going to be honest about it. Not snagging the swag while distracting Joe, are ya? :)
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:46am
KP:
Yay, Ray! | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:46am
Julie:
@Matt I haven't done that in years, although Joe is easily distracted by a female face ;)
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:48am
Matt from Springfield:
Ha ha, I'm sure the statute of limitations has run out. Just do penance by playing us those antique, rare premiums on the show!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:48am
helsingfred:
fans of PJ and Tori, I have to recommend Manna, a local gal with a kindred groove
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:49am
Julie:
HF sounds good I'll check her out
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:50am
Matt from Springfield:
@HF: Does Manna sing in English? Solo or with band?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 3:53am
helsingfred:
In English, with a band behind her. Try this :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH9-9IKesyc
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:01am
Matt from Springfield:
Yes! I saw Echo & the Bunnymen last month, but they didn't play this song. THIS version was actually the first "People Are Strange" I heard, on that "Lost Boys" soundtrack, though I wasn't aware it was E&TB at the time--so it was also my first time hearing them!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:02am
Julie:
@Matt great, isn't it :)
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:02am
jim:
When you're really strange everybody remembers your name but you can't tell them apart
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:05am
Matt from Springfield:
I like them! I agree with Brian Turner that there were a few drawbacks during the last tour, but overall it was a really great show! @HF: Took a look at the Manna vid--very much in Tori's vein, she certainly fits the Dark Night aesthetic!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:06am
KP:
Geez, this great. | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:08am
KP:
I failed the math test. And apparently grammar, too. the 'great' was for end of the night. Comps are wonderful!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:09am
demo:
Morning Julie. Cycling through London city, on my way to work, enjoyed your little-London session. What's up with echo and the bunnymen doing people are strange?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:09am
Steve:
Love Jim | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:10am
Julie:
@Demo I like it | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:11am
coldcunt:
what is better - North America un South America?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:11am
jim:
Huh! I thought I'd heard everything they'd ever done
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:12am
helsingfred:
I think Manna's got some real talent. She's part of a new breed of Finnish musicians who are more or less bypassing the local music infra (and local labels) and leapfrogging to a bigger audience. She toured with MAdM and I think that raised her profile. She does concerts in Helsinki once in a while and they're fabuloso. SIOUXSIE 4EVA !!!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:13am
Matt from Springfield:
Wow, this is Siouxsie! I've heard several covers of "You're Lost Little Girl", first time I noticed this one.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:14am
helsingfred:
Siouxsie has picked some great covers. Helter Skelter, (Iggy's) Passenger, ...
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:15am
demo:
Morning Julie. Enjoyed your little London-session, cycling into work this morning. Good on Siouxsie and her cover. Made it hers

|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:15am

@HF Dear Prudence! | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:16am
helsingfred:
wow this Dissolve song is cooooooooooool
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:16am
demo:
this band fronted by mad..donna?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 4:17am
helsingfred:
Yup! Dear Prudence fer sher! Wasn't that by a group called the Beatles? I think they were Paul McCartney's old backup band :-P

Tue. 6/14/11 5:09am
Julie:
Pierre I am considering a side trip there, though I have no idea where to go!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:09am
pierre:
although even if its an easy trip london> paris, it might be an expensive one.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:10am
Julie:
My only complaint is I'll have to get different money!
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:10am
pierre:
where to stay you mean ? | |
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:13am
helsingfred:
CC is from Siouxsie's day? Makes me kinda wonder who was influencing whom..
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:13am
Julie:
No just where to go. Not planning on staying overnight, just for the day hopefully
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:17am
pierre:
ok, so it might indeed be expensive, but if you want to go somewhere cool, there is plenty : parcs (buttes chaumont; montsouris…), Montmatre (sexy bohemian district, pigalle, etc), Père Lachaise cemetery (where a lot of famous people are buried), Bellevile (popular district where you can eat food from anywhere), Louvre (see Mona Lisa and her friends)… But maybe from London you'll get an idea.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:21am
helsingfred:
Montmartre is best on the weekend. Be sure to stop by Gals Rock. Are you into flea markets - there's a huge one on the north end.

Tue. 6/14/11 5:25am
pierre:
are you speaking about Clignancourt, helsingfred ?
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:36am
helsingfred:
It's Le Puces in Saint Ouen. Metro: Porte de Clignancourt (line 4) or Garibaldi (line 13). It's huge! "inaugurated in 1885, and currently has over 2000 shops selling everything imaginable." Et en particulièrement Marche des Rosiers (3 rue Paul Bert): "A mere 12 stalls specialize in Art Nouveau (and Art Deco)."
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:49am
stump:
Have a great time Julie we will miss you
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:49am
pierre:
yeah that's it (i call it Clignacourt as it the subway station) very cool flea market indeed. I remember going in a shop called "Took from the customs", it had all kind of weird sex themed items, as well as crazy weapons, knifes, swords… Crazy crazy, stuffs…
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:50am
Julie:
Thank you, Stump! I'll be back, and you can catch up on archives ;)
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:51am
helsingfred:
hah @pierre do you remember roughly where it was? sounds fun
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:54am
pierre:
i was something like 12 or 15 years old. roughly i'd say, by the end of the main "avenue" of the market.
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:54am
helsingfred:
oh noes the clock is running out
|
Tue. 6/14/11 5:54am
