  7:39pm
Andy S.:

Had a "Monica moment" at HousingWorks clearance sale on Crosby Street today where LPs were five for a buck. I scored a bunch of Seventies jazz reissues ('20s-'40s material) plus albums by Lulu, Ten Wheel Drive, white jazz thrush Carole Sloane, and Sammy Davis Jr. with Sam Butera & the Witnesses. Nearly all were in mint condition!
  7:39pm
Duck Soup (1933):

Secretary of Labor: The Department of Labor wishes to note that the workers of Freedonia are demanding shorter hours.
Rufus T. Firefly: Very well, we'll give them shorter hours. We'll start by cutting their lunch hour to 20 minutes.
  7:39pm

Best to dj monica
  7:42pm
Patience:

Stat Mgr Ken's back from being out of town after last week. Knowledgeable parties reckon the new schedule will appear on the station site earlier rather than later this week.
  7:43pm
Don (trip dub):

You gotta see/hear/dance La Excellence (think Tito Puente) and get your Salsa on. Opening for Larry Harlow - June 18 Prospect Park - Free.
  7:45pm

@ duck soup - went to college in freedonia , er, fredonia. story goes they got booed off the opera house stage there and used the name. just a story.

@andy s. i found a handful of copies of dj. rappensteins football rap and thought of monica for some weird reason. football shaped vinyl and all. it was rhino, not tommy boy
  7:54pm
Windy City:

Great set Monica ...thank you!
Can you kick it? Hell yes you can!
  7:54pm
Duck Soup:

The British sarcastically called the U.S. Freedonia sometimes, after the Revolutionary War. That's where the Marx Bros. probably picked it iup.
  8:00pm
monica:

  8:01pm
Don (trip dub):

In the "There ain't no such thing as sanity clause" dept. - Look out for singer Mary Griffin who did a Dr. Feelgood Aretha would be proud of at the P-Funk show this past Thursday. Amazing pipes. Clinton was droppin the doob and s-bombs all two hours.
  8:02pm
G:

That's the Galt McDermot who wrote the rock opera Two Gentlemen of Verona that I played Eglamour in, at the American high school in Sao Paulo, Brasil in 1975. Hadn't thought about Galt in years.
  8:03pm
sugarwolf:

Andy S, I am jealous of your Housing Works score. I have gotten many good things there (books & records) over the years.
  8:06pm
Andy S.:

@Sugarwolf: Vinyl pickings were rather slim, actually, with Broadway shows, classical, MOR, and unwanted 12-inches taking up a lot of space in the bins.
  8:07pm
trish:

yayy!
  8:07pm
12539:

(Yay to continued Monica!)

  8:15pm
Parq:

On KP as usual but had to butt my head in to say this funk set is ON FIRE! And this unreconstructed disco hater thought that Karen Young track was killer.
  8:15pm
sugarwolf:

Andy, I love Broadway cast recordings!

I am still kicking myself for not buying that Tammy Grimes record there a few years ago.
  8:16pm
Don (trip dub):

Now I can ask..Can I be the Minister of Propagranda for outdoorsy NY concertos? Got the sunblock ready. I agree, Karen's track was killer and she bridged R&B dance as Jimmy Bo, KC etc. Great show as always. Yeah, Irving Fields - bagels and bongos.
  8:16pm

Hey Monica... loved that jazz vocal (Anita O'Day?). What was crazy is that her first verse was -word -4ditto for WarrenSmith, late 1950s rockabillty song, "Miss Froggie," a Little Richard-style delivery.

Hello Monica. Your program this evening has provided a backdrop to my auto-touring of the Black Dirts district of southern New York State, home to the region's finest onions. Your Sony tirade was priceless. Lazy Bones is one of my favorite songs.
