Nice Sunday night music mood, as ever!
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:39pm Andy S.:

Had a "Monica moment" at HousingWorks clearance sale on Crosby Street today where LPs were five for a buck. I scored a bunch of Seventies jazz reissues ('20s-'40s material) plus albums by Lulu, Ten Wheel Drive, white jazz thrush Carole Sloane, and Sammy Davis Jr. with Sam Butera & the Witnesses. Nearly all were in mint condition!
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:39pm Duck Soup (1933):

Secretary of Labor: The Department of Labor wishes to note that the workers of Freedonia are demanding shorter hours.
Rufus T. Firefly: Very well, we'll give them shorter hours. We'll start by cutting their lunch hour to 20 minutes.
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:39pm dale:

can you believe that in less than 3 weeks we start going backwards towards winter? ugh!
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:39pm monica:

howdy dale, don (trip dub), G, and Andy S.!!!
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:39pm cheri:

mo-- you don't have nancy sinatra tonight i take it,, btw i hope you're on the schedule this summer,,
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:40pm Andy S.:

Joe Bataan! Love this guy, esp. his Latin doo-wop anthem of urban upward mobility, "Under The Street Lamp."
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:41pm listener gary:

I was beat to the punch ...read that as Duck Soup'
Best to dj monica
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:42pm Patience:

Stat Mgr Ken's back from being out of town after last week. Knowledgeable parties reckon the new schedule will appear on the station site earlier rather than later this week.
Sun. 6/5/11 7:43pm Don (trip dub):

You gotta see/hear/dance La Excellence (think Tito Puente) and get your Salsa on. Opening for Larry Harlow - June 18 Prospect Park - Free.
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:45pm dale:

i took a polka dance lesson once at the pine island ny dom polski club. instructor name was hildy

Sun. 6/5/11 7:50pm Maggie in Rock Tavern:

CB1 - i was just gonna say the same. what a perfect evening. thanks, Mo. We're grillin and chillin to your music tonight.
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:52pm dale:

@ duck soup - went to college in freedonia , er, fredonia. story goes they got booed off the opera house stage there and used the name. just a story.

@andy s. i found a handful of copies of dj. rappensteins football rap and thought of monica for some weird reason. football shaped vinyl and all. it was rhino, not tommy boy
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:54pm Windy City:

Great set Monica ...thank you!
Can you kick it? Hell yes you can!
  Sun. 6/5/11 7:54pm Duck Soup:

The British sarcastically called the U.S. Freedonia sometimes, after the Revolutionary War. That's where the Marx Bros. probably picked it iup.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:00pm monica:

Listener Gary - thanks for the clarification on that...Hello Patience, yes summer sched to be posted on homepage shortly....thanks for conscer sched, don...dale, you're intrepid...CB1, where is CB2?...Maggie!!...Yo, Windy City and Duck Soup!
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:00pm dale:

i did not know that. hard to find an origin on giggly google, the name has been usurped so much
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:01pm CB1:

On the road... but tuned in.
Sun. 6/5/11 8:01pm Don (trip dub):

In the "There ain't no such thing as sanity clause" dept. - Look out for singer Mary Griffin who did a Dr. Feelgood Aretha would be proud of at the P-Funk show this past Thursday. Amazing pipes. Clinton was droppin the doob and s-bombs all two hours.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:02pm G:

That's the Galt McDermot who wrote the rock opera Two Gentlemen of Verona that I played Eglamour in, at the American high school in Sao Paulo, Brasil in 1975. Hadn't thought about Galt in years.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:03pm sugarwolf:

Andy S, I am jealous of your Housing Works score. I have gotten many good things there (books & records) over the years.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:06pm Andy S.:

@Sugarwolf: Vinyl pickings were rather slim, actually, with Broadway shows, classical, MOR, and unwanted 12-inches taking up a lot of space in the bins.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:07pm trish:

  Sun. 6/5/11 8:07pm 12539:

(Yay to continued Monica!)
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:07pm cheri:

  Sun. 6/5/11 8:14pm KC:

Get down tonight!
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:15pm Parq:

On KP as usual but had to butt my head in to say this funk set is ON FIRE! And this unreconstructed disco hater thought that Karen Young track was killer.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:15pm sugarwolf:

Andy, I love Broadway cast recordings!

I am still kicking myself for not buying that Tammy Grimes record there a few years ago.
Sun. 6/5/11 8:16pm Don (trip dub):

Now I can ask..Can I be the Minister of Propagranda for outdoorsy NY concertos? Got the sunblock ready. I agree, Karen's track was killer and she bridged R&B dance as Jimmy Bo, KC etc. Great show as always. Yeah, Irving Fields - bagels and bongos.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:16pm CB1:

Oh, my, oh my, whadda show! Keep us guessing!
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:19pm CB1:

  Sun. 6/5/11 8:42pm frenchee:

clink-clink of the swamp cocktail to ya, Monica!
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:47pm Marc Grobman:

Hey Monica... loved that jazz vocal (Anita O'Day?). What was crazy is that her first verse was -word -4ditto for WarrenSmith, late 1950s rockabillty song, "Miss Froggie," a Little Richard-style delivery.
Fab! Cool! Right on! Dynomight!
Yr long-time Fan & FMU comrade,
Sun. 6/5/11 8:48pm Don (trip dub):

Love that Dr. Buzzard, Coati Mudi and Kid Creole and Coconuts. Thanks for playin'. Hot '97 got nothin' on you.
Sun. 6/5/11 8:48pm Maggie in Rock Tavern:

oh! i just love this. and how appropriate for these strange times.
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:48pm CB1:

Once did an album cover for Dr. Buzzard. The record was canned by RCA - so that was the end of that. Oh, well...
  Sun. 6/5/11 8:50pm monica:

Marc Grobman - WOW!!! So great to hear from you. It was June (Anita/June/Chris triumvirate). Miss you dearly, sir,,,, hello, Richard Leaky - leak on, bro...

Sun. 6/5/11 9:57pm Pete from Boston [and NJ]:

Hello Monica. Your program this evening has provided a backdrop to my auto-touring of the Black Dirts district of southern New York State, home to the region's finest onions. Your Sony tirade was priceless. Lazy Bones is one of my favorite songs.
