Handsome Harry:

Miniature Minotaurs will not be televised. Nice job Minnesota Jeff.
  12:13pm
WinstonSmith:

RIP to Gil. His passing is a real shame. I first saw Gil live in 1981 @ FIU in Miami, an afternoon gig, Gil solo with only a Fender Rhodes, his incisive wit and his deep political criticism of the then new Reagan debacle and his warm magic in front of about 100 people sitting on a grass covered hill. One of my favorite shows of all time. Peace Go With You Brother.
  12:14pm
john:

I don't know whether to be offfended or inspired by Eugene's take on this song.
  12:15pm

Gil Scott Heron has passed. And Whitey's on the moon .... Play away, Kurt.
  12:16pm
john:

Pieces Of A Man is one of the best songs ever written.
  12:20pm
still b/p:

One of my main Heron associations is hearing, and being glad to hear, The Bottle on FM radio in the mid 70s.

In those times or these, how often ya gonna hear Donny and Gil back-to-back anywhere?
  12:28pm
Drummer Some:

Listening to Pieces of a Man, with knowledge of GSH's own personal demons, is particularly agonizing.
  12:28pm

I stream, you stream, we all stream for...

Handsome Harry:

I personally prefer the pipes.
  12:39pm

This is like navel-gazing if the navel is a wormhole into the vortex of the inner space of the cortex of a hole into the stream of a god, oh god, I'm gonna DIE! I'm gonna DIE! Thorazine! Thorazine!

Kurt, be quiet! I'm trying to listen to Amanda!
  12:48pm
Daniel:

Amanda just ain't as charming as an unmentionable monster.
  12:49pm
Carmichael:

I guess she's officially unofficial now.
  12:52pm
BSI:

Clearly, the way to become more "charming" while avoiding selling your soul would be to stick to the Black Metal Nonsense, but sing along, on-mic. Please.
  12:56pm
Daniel:

Or maybe dance along to some Cecil Taylor. That would be totally acousmatic.
  12:58pm
von bingy:

very much enjoying the show today

Amy-whatchoo wanna doooo?

correction! there is no viewing tonight, but there will be a memorial/viewing on FRIDAY from 6pm to 9pm at Campbell; the funeral itself is still scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30am at Riverside Church (i called Campbell b/c there is conflicting information on different websites!)
  2:01pm
still b/p:

Saw a few minutes of Purple Rain movie the other day. So, soooo awful.
  2:02pm
still b/p:

Donny sounds a little like Brian Wilson at this speed.
  2:04pm
john:

still b/p----That's what I thought too-
  2:05pm
Mike East:

Wait, you mean awesome, right? Yeah, you must mean awesome
  2:06pm
Harold Faltermeyer:

I demand credit for "Axel F"
  2:09pm
john:

Of course awesome although I liked the Beach Boys album Smiley Smile more than Brian's Smile record-
  2:11pm
john:

Oh you meant Purple Rain not Brian Wilson's voice--
  2:17pm
ben drinken:

sounds like thai music. i guess Indonesians sound like Thai a bit. has anyone heard of the Thai rapper Joey Boy?
  2:17pm
slugluv1313:

ah! i love those recordings on which you are not able to read/understand anything, they are the BEST!
  2:20pm
slugluv1313:

i was thinking that too, how the Indonesian sounds somewhat Thai and/or Cambodian (not that i am an "expert" on these matters by any means!)
  2:21pm
Tornado:

thai me up, thai me down.
  2:22pm
Marshall Stacks:

... if it's Indonesian, you should at least be able to read the letters and see the individual words. Unlike Indonesian, Thai and Cambodian (Khmer) use non-Latin scripts.
  2:22pm
Luther Vandross:

No, I make bed music.
  2:23pm
Ike:

It sounded more like Thai than Indonesian to me, though I am no expert.
  2:24pm
postmanpaul:

@ john - haha..... i've just worked all that out, i think. nice :)
  2:24pm
Tornado:

Change the heading "Comments" to "I'm Not An Expert, BUT"
  2:25pm
Handsome Harry:

Oh, I don't think this has been a total failure.
  2:26pm
Marshall Stacks:

The show's not over yet.
  2:26pm
Lizardner Dave:

I have the station on for hours at a time at work, however my level of attention varies depending on how much I have to concentrate on my actual job at any given moment.
  2:26pm
jbm:

When I heard that Viva cover, I thought it must be the band "The Original Artists" - you know, whoever played the songs on all those albums As Seen On TV.
  2:27pm
postmanpaul:

fair comment LDave.
  2:29pm
Ψ-Ns:

On the show "Boondocks," Grandpa creates "the Luther" (named after Vandross) for his restaurant The Itis…
  2:32pm
Lizardner Dave:

I watch a lot of cooking and travel shows on PBS and they all have had about eight minutes of commercials for years now, four at the beginning and four at the end.
  2:34pm
Nanker de Tucson:

Hoosier daddy?
  2:36pm
BSI:

What did I miss? eh? EH? EH?!?!?
  2:36pm
john:

I find it funny how the Ford Foundation "proudly supports public television". Henry Ford was an anti-semite who kept a photo of Hitler on his desk. There was a deal made where the Allies weren't allowed to bomb his factories in Germany. I am not making this up.
  2:37pm
still b/p:

Stereo-whoa-oh!
  2:38pm
Lizardner Dave:

Also RE: PBS, when Mike Colameco was on Seven Second Delay a few weeks back he said he doesn't get a dime from PBS for providing his program. It's all paid for by sponsors (hence the commercials at the beginning and end of his program).
  2:43pm
BDR:

Last songs need Joel Clark and Dan Tullis. Yo.
  2:46pm
ben drinken:

could end the show with pipes and auld lang syne
  2:46pm
Adam in Portland:

Continue the weasel theme (Kurt style) and play some Weasel Walter. Haha. ;-)
  2:48pm
bennett4senate:

often end my show with mid-tempo boogie/disco jams with themes of love and good times
  2:48pm
Mike East:

Lizardner Dave: I don't mind the PBS commercials, cuz at least they don't interrupt the programming. I have it timed where I know when they're coming, so I can mute. Ever seen that guy who does Taste This TV? He is the worst.
  2:49pm
Adam in Portland:

I love, love, love Amanda and Kurt both. It is some sort of punishment for my past indiscretions that you two are scheduled competitors. I will loose these binds by from this point forward alternating which show I listen to live and which I pull up via the archives. Xoxoxo.
  2:49pm
Zookeeper:

Don't tease the weasels.
  2:50pm
Mike East:

Aimee Mann's cover of this is amazing. Fits her voice so well.
  2:50pm
Mike East:

or maybe that should be her voice fits the song so well.
  2:52pm
Zookeeper:

Obviously McCartney was listening to Badfinger in 1971.

  2:55pm
