This is so beautiful and precious. Few can accomplish so much bliss with such simple and sparse elements.

yair yona (tel aviv):
Cave Dance is really great.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 12:47am
channeling Mick Jones:
Actually I was never speeded up from 33 to 45. I was instead the A&R-midwifed demon spawn of Jon Anderson and Steven Tyler. I trust that clears things up.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 12:48am
Joe McG:
Thanks, Mick! | |

Matt from Springfield:
Just in time for Single File! Hi Joe!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:35am
Joe McG:
Hey, Matt. What's up? | |
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:37am
Matt from Springfield:
Brian Ferry is waiting in the midnight hour--I didn't think Roxy would be the type to put out Mono versions! I didn't think anyone would still be doing Mono singles by '80, but I'm sure you've seen some Joe.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:39am
Joe McG:
Jukebox and radio promo singles often still had stereo/mono sides even into the 80s. Not sure why!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:41am
Matt from Springfield:
Probably to play in older jukeboxes, perhaps. Also I missed your intro--any reason for a song titled "Baby It's Cold Outside"? Pezband reminds me a bit of Wings.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:42am
Matt from Springfield:
On Air record manipulation! Yeah!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:43am
Joe McG:
Just call me DJ Oops. | |
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:46am
Joe McG:
Somebody wanted to hear Bad Co. before--this is pretty close, innit?
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:47am
Matt from Springfield:
Hey, I like it! It brings fun to late nights, and makes FMU even more "tangible" and "human"--it proves you're not a computer playing pre-programmed digital files (it also proves I'm not chatting with a REALLY good Artificial Intelligence text generator)!!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:47am
Matt from Springfield:
@Joe: Yep, mark from earlier. Paul Rodgers should satisify any Bad Co/Free/Paul Rodgers+Queen demands!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:48am
Joe McG:
Sorry everybody. | |
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:50am
Matt from Springfield:
Psycho Chicken??!! And this is only a few days after Irwin played Weird Al!!! Although...you could seriously do a 70s/80s parody song show...even MORE material would be in a 60s novelty song show. Somehow I feel our listeners wouldn't appreciate the "artistic worthiness" of that venture!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:54am
Matt from Springfield:
Leeeeeee! Um Lee, is that a real Nancy you're talkin' about here??
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:55am
Joe McG:
Must be, Matt...or Frank would've been pissed!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:55am
Colm:
please play Psycho Chicken again, thank you!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 1:56am
Dr. Demento:
[striking Might Mouse pose, sings: ] HERE I COME, TO SAVE THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:00am
Matt from Springfield:
Helen Reddy and "Delta Dawn"--flashin' back to my parents' Midnight Special DVDs-- I think you played the Tanya Tucker version before--definitely a lot better than Helen's.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:02am
Matt from Springfield:
Nah Uh--I'll make those FL people change their name if need be...
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:06am
Colm:
Awesome! | |
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:15am
Matt from Springfield:
All sound IS created equal!! Freeform is FREEDOM!! In the land of the rigid format, freeform is KING!!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:18am
Matt from Springfield:
All copyrights for the slogan belong to you, Keili :) Although I've suggested many slogans before (like for the front page)...the station never used them!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:19am
Joe McG:
Hey, Matt--Keili I hope is still sleeping, getting ready for her show! That was Heather.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:20am
Matt from Springfield:
Embarassed!! | |
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:21am
Joe McG:
No worries, Matt! She's flattered by the comparison.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:21am
Matt from Springfield:
She kinda sounds like Keili on the radio, I really thought that! Does HEATHER have a show here?
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:25am
Joe McG:
No, she just stopped by. She used to do a show on WHRW Binghamton, then WELH Providence. She's one of WFMU's many helpful volunteers!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:29am
Matt from Springfield:
Bless the volunteers! Good voice for radio I declare! Do you know the singer of Yeah Yeah Noh?
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:30am
Joe McG:
Yes, his name is Derek! | |
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:37am
Matt from Springfield:
LOVE the name Dow Jones and the Industrials! Not the first time I've heard them on FMU!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:45am
Matt from Springfield:
Joe, with Dan B. dancing around most times you're on, you really need a UStream camera in the studio!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Comments Playlist Page Life!!! The listeners' journal within WFMU-Land! If we're going bonkers, no better time or place to do it than here!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 2:59am
Matt from Springfield:
74 Minutes of Kevin Ayers!!! Although Joe has sung along (or hummed along, w/o words) to the bed music before. @Daniel B: If you like singing along to the slower part of that song, try The Pogues' "Rum Sodomy & The Lash", or their other "folk punk" works of the 80s.
|
Sun. 5/1/11 3:01am
Matt from Springfield:
This is the next level! This is like those experimental 70s freeform talk shows I've read about but never had the pleasure to listen to!
|
Sun. 5/1/11 3:01am
Matt from Springfield:
Good night Joe! Heather! Daniel! Jeff! Much fun (and bonkers-i-tude) was had by all!

Mike Sin:
Wow, enjoying your show archive over breakfast this morning. I'm always schooled on somethin' on your show. Detroit Emeralds, huh? Hey, for clarity -- up until about 1969, engineers ran two completely separate and different mono and stereo mixes for the two formats. By 1970, when mono versions were only needed for AM radio (not the consumer market), these mono mixes were just "collapsed" versions from the stereo mix. They are not completely different mixes.
