WFMU's first callerless call-in show. Sixty minutes of news, reviews, interviews, egregious technical errors, and baffling streams of non sequiturs. Violating the false dichotomy between jokes and serious shit since 2010.

do air traffic controllers get real beds? or do they bring little rugs with them to nap on the floor like we did in kiddygarten? And if they have beds, who changes the sheets?
|
Tue. 4/19/11 7:16pm
Zachary:
I believe the controllers have to change their own sheets. Here is a good video from C-SPAN about UAV's: http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/295168-5

So, it seems to me that something that cuts across (almost) all of the things that you have talked about is the systematic manipulation of language to prevent critical thinking. ($cientology is a perfect example of this.) Also the pandering to magical thinking ("Truthiness", Jesus, Birtherism, Climate Change Denial, etc.) Your thoughts?
|
Tue. 4/19/11 7:22pm
Thoughts:
Or magical-thinking mantras or advertising slogans such as "hope and change"

i was in the marketing dept for ny power authority who owned ip3 for a while. tons of fines for operators asleep, leaking pipes etc. so it was offline like 75% of the time until nrc gave the go ahead - it really was like homer simpson was running the place

I couldn't agree with you more Terry and Thoughts. People are exposed to safe media that does not force them to challenge their beliefs, thoughts, or views. Why challenge yourself when you can eat a convenient fast food dinner, watch television, and converse about sports? Questioning yourself and critically thinking about the world around you is the key to progress.

Unfortunately, the robot was to be used as nothing more than an intercom with which to communicate with the guy. So he didn't "fight it off" so much as ignore it.
