Irwin, who was the lady singer who did ""There's plenty of men in my life, but not enough life in my men?" French or german accent, you played it years ago. "...they don't eat their Wheaties..."
  4:56pm
kczmrk:

Allright, I'm back.
Irwin: you have a very crude Tullis&Clark ep on your mailbox. Enjoy a listening!
  4:59pm
Happy Listener:

It'll take me a week to sort out how I want to chop up Dan & Joel in Reason, but I enjoy listener participation, so I'll get to it.
  4:59pm
Robert:

Matt, apparently this past Sat. Terre didn't like my commenting that the pictures taken of the band she had playing in studio were really sad looking.
  5:00pm
Janet Jackson:

Off to polish the twins, good night.
  5:01pm
Happy Listener:

Umm... Irwin, would you please take down the Manson pic, it resembles my late father and I'm losing my Happy.
  5:03pm
Charlie:

@Robert: Why are DJs and in-studio guests supposed to put up with being criticized pointlessly? Just asking!
  5:05pm
?:

this kinda reminds me of Portico Quartet

@hooray: HERMINE. Endlich sind die zwei längst vergriffenen Alben der unsterblichen Chanteuse HERMINE auf CD lieferbar. "The World On My Plates" (32.- Fr mit dem legendären Cover, auf dem Hermine Singles in die Abwaschmaschine abfüllt) kommt mit 7 zusätzlichen Single-Bonustracks und Klassikern wie "There Are Too Many Men In My Life, But Not Enough Life In My Men" oder "The Thrill Is Gone" und "Valley Of The Dolls". Inkl. Highlights wie "Don't Smoke In Bed", "Noir Noir Noir", "Death Of Samantha" und "Cry Me A River"...

  5:05pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Robert: Well, the DJs can remove any comment they disapprove of--Terre might have taken the pics herself, and seen your comments as nit-picking.
  5:07pm
Hooray:

@? Dankeschon.
  5:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Administrator--YES! Professional trance mix!
  5:07pm

Okay, I've turned images off in my browser...

re: the current discussion - Oh, I've seen DJ's turn off the comments column, it's their choice. Hell, Ken even edits posts.
  5:09pm
hamburger / london:

cha! cha! cha! - sorry, couldn't resist!
  5:10pm
Danne D:

Ugh, I'm getting all mucked up. Now I have to listen to the archive of this Irwin show since I'm currently listening to the archive of Keili's show that I missed by being passed out during it :(

How would Burgess Meredith handle this?
  5:12pm
Hopey:

I listen at work on my phone and appreciate Djs who have playlists and comments.
  5:12pm
kczmrk:

Thank you kindly mister DJ and Matt from Springfield as well!
  5:13pm
Charlie:

Easy. Two-stream Keili-Irwin mashup.
  5:14pm
Disturbed Listener:

I love this Lucky People Centre song. It's in the spirit of great old industrial dance classics that lifted televangelist samples.
  5:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Lucky People Center! I love this too, DL!
And don't be stingy with those hands, Reverend!
  5:15pm
Marshall Stacks:

And a gut yomtov to you too, Irwin!
  5:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Burgess would be alone in the world, with all of the WFMU Archives secure on a computer server, and all the time in the world to listen. Which then short circuits and leaves him without WFMU, and all the time in the world...
  5:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bob & Ray! It's been awhile since you pulled them out!
  5:18pm
Disturbed Listener:

Excellent stuff, here.
  5:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

ERES TU! I still remember from the last time you played this!!!!
  5:21pm
Anxious Listener:

Jimmy Mitchell has such resonance in his "Eeeeeeeeeeereeeeeees". It's fucking amazing.
  5:22pm
jaycjay:

I appreciate the playlists especially, so much so that I tend not to listen to the DJs that don't use them. It gets frustrating not being able to instantly see what's playing, so I usually play something from the archives instead.
  5:23pm
La Raza Council:

@Irwin: That's offensive of you, playing Incorrect Spanish music but some obvious English-speaker. What about the many qualified NATIVE Spanish speakers who sing this horribly? Why my own Uncle Raúl is a great Incorrect singer when drunk...
  5:23pm
Happy Listener:

That cover of "Eres Tu" is a great antidote for my exposure to the original, which used to play all the damned time at my Honduran friend's house in the 80s.
  5:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

EPIC!
  5:24pm
kczmrk:

AMAZING!
He surely wasnt using Garage Band!
  5:25pm
Robert:

Charlie, they indeed should not be subject to POINTLESS criticism. But if I got whoever took those pictures to get the ban to smile next time, it's worth it.

Unfortunately my INITIAL remark wasn't so explicit: "At least their music wasn't as bad as they look."
  5:26pm
Happy Listener:

That sure took awhile.
  5:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

@jaycjay: Diddo here--I always prefer to see what's playing--and since you can't search Archives for things that might strike your fancy, I also tend to not listen to Archives without playlists (talk shows excepted).
  5:27pm
Charlie:

@Robt.: Not everyone wants to smile like a beauty pageant model. E.g., check my pic out.

Maybe try giving people a little space to be themselves, and not just have to do what you personally would prefer.

See the wisdom I have accumulated with all my thinktime?
  5:28pm
Happy Listener:

"Maybe try giving people a little space to be themselves, and not just have to do what you personally would prefer."

QFT
  5:29pm
Happy Listener:

That should be the header for every comments column!
  5:30pm
Happy Listener:

Maybe put it on a transparent layer over the comments scroll...
  5:31pm
Robert:

Charlie, they were to perform that night in Brooklyh, and they should've taken the opp'ty to not only sound good (which they did), but look good, to draw in the swells. The drummer looked positively WORRIED!
  5:32pm
jaycjay:

Yep. And I know that means I'm missing out on some good stuff, but usually when I'm listening I'm also working. Something will catch my attention and I'll want to know what is, but there's a good chance I'll be distracted when the DJ comes on and won't hear. So I have to see.
  5:33pm
jaycjay:

That's not so big a problem with the archived shows, because I can jump around and find the set breaks, but still... I don't often do it.
  5:35pm
Robert:

And Charlie, don't give me anything about matching their tone. I've seen punk bands do entire sets that were basically about being shit in a shitstorm of shit, and they smiled afterwards.
  5:37pm
Charlie:

And I thought *I* was a sociopath.
  5:39pm
Robert:

And the funny thing was that at that time the worst thing they could think of to accuse each other of was being "poseurs", when it's obvious that's exactly what the audiences wanted.
  5:43pm
Robert:

Never mind that Suicidal Tendencies actually HAD suicidal tendencies, that was sad! I don't think anyone really wished that.
  5:45pm
Danne D:

LOL Love Charlie's Idea - may have to try to figure out how to make a Keili-Irwin two stream mash-up work :D

As far as comments getting stricken - I honestly consider it the DJ's show and if my comment is inappropriate or even if it sucks or whatever and it goes bye-bye, oh well. I'm more sanguine than some in that regard I guess.

As far as shows lacking comments, again I think it's dealer's choice. Some DJs see their show as sort of a piece in itself perhaps and maybe think the boards pull it off focus. Others may just want to focus on the DJ task at hand and not have to juggle comments (and monitor them). Others maybe haven't had the chance to take the time or figure it out. Others may have had a bad experience.

It's clear to anyone that I love the comments boards (perhaps a bit TOO much) :) but sometime it's nice to kick back and listen and not think of manifestos like this to type :o)
  5:45pm
Oreck:

It's the Weekly Irwin Oreck Set!
  5:46pm
Danne D:

(that's a long way of saying I agree with Charlie I guess)
  5:46pm
Robert:

Wait -- there's a DJ show that goes with these comments??
  5:47pm
Oreck:

We couldn't tell by you, Bobbie.
  5:47pm
I have heard it said:

Freeform is Freedom.
  5:49pm
Danne D:

I dunno, Robert - I'm still on the Keili archives perhaps :)

How a DJ decides the comments board complements their show is up to them ;)
  5:49pm
Danne D:

I got a shirt that says the opposite :)
Freedom is Free Form :)
  5:51pm
Robert:

I'm just here because it's there. If there were no comments I wouldn't miss them. And as far as what I guess could be called moderated boards go, these are among the most tolerant.
  5:51pm
channeling Joe F.:

If I knew what this station was like, how would you have talked me into coming?
  5:53pm
Robert:

Ever try to post criticism at the videos many people (particularly young women & girls) put up at YouTube? They have a word, "hater", to describe anyone who isn't absolutely thrilled with their content.
  5:53pm
Transitive Property:

@Danne,IHHIS: Same difference.
  5:54pm
Oreck:

You sound like the voice of experience on that, Bob. Who'd have guessed!
  5:55pm
Robert:

I'm finding the younger generation to be remarkably thin skinned.
  5:55pm
Symmetric Property:

@Transitive Property: You are wrong, it is me.
Therefore...you are me?
  5:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Re: Joe Phranck: Irwin?
  5:56pm
I have heard it said:

I goofed.
  5:57pm
Hopey:

Am I a wimp for being a bit fearful of this 7sd show?
  5:57pm
Irwin:

Kneel before me, butt-slave.
  5:57pm
Younger Generation:

@Robert: Stop it! Stop it! You know what happens to us when we're seen as thin-skinned or weak??!!
  5:58pm
Danne D:

LOL - This is outstanding! I miss Joe Frank on FMU

I'm hoping that Robert is not a cannibal as that comment would then be in bad taste ;)
  5:59pm
Dan and Joel:

We'd like to do an Amanda rap. And then buy up four ad minutes for it during every daytime hour on every station on the AM band across the entire county.
  5:59pm
Dan and Joel:

country, duh.
  6:00pm
Robert:

"Would you like to insure against your children's sounding like this?"
  6:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Dan and Joel: I'd support you in that! Hold a pledge drive if needed!

7SD, here we go!
