  9:13am
postmanpaul (":

whats with the bees liz?!
  9:13am
Liz B.:

Hi everyone! Gotta ease into Monday morning. I am not a morning person, nor am I a Monday person, so I guess that's my way of coping!
  9:15am
DumbSchmuck:

Morning java on top of a haze is a fine way
  9:16am
postmanpaul (":

mornin annie, where's your neck of the woods these days?
  9:17am
Liz B.:

Postmanpaul, Dead Bees is a great label that's been adding songs to the Free Music Archive... recommended!
  9:22am
postmanpaul (":

thanks for the recommendation, liz. and ye olde english spelling bee, they related in any way?!
  9:25am
Liz B.:

No relation to the bee labels, just a thing I guess. Oh weird, I saw a Turkish film last week and bees were sort of a peripheral part of the plot... maybe something is going on with my subconscious today. THINK BEES, PEOPLE!!
  9:28am
Parq:

Around our house, when you're talking bees, you're talking this Eddie Izzard bit.

A friend attended a Fool Party on Saturday in a full bee outfit. With a flowered staff and a top hat. Bees got those, right?
  9:41am

  9:55am
Liz B.:

Cool deal, thanks Paul! I'll write back to you later today hopefully.
  10:10am
Ben:

Liz, just want you to know I pledged -- the blast e-mail was the inspiration. Please wait until next year to send another. Always and always, thanks for the show.
  10:11am
Liz B.:

Right on, thanks a ton, Ben! Awesome!
  10:17am
Parq:

Ah, that late-70s-early-80s post punk sound -- the droning bass, the driving backbeat. Still my favorite kind of rock & roll.
  10:28am
dc pat:

crap Parq, you just killed my whole day. I didn't know about Eddie Izzard. He's killing me over here..
  10:29am
Richard from Venezuela:

Good morning to all.
  10:30am
Carmichael:

Good morning Liz and fellow people. Eddie Izzard is also one of my favorites. Intelligent, quick-witted and a bit bizarre.
  10:32am
Liz B.:

Hi Carmichael and Richard, welcome!
  10:35am
Lucas:

HI LIZ, happy to hear your show today!
  10:43am
Liz B.:

Hey Lucas, good to see you here as well! Anyone catch any live music this past weekend? I saw Hackamore Brick (feat John Allen and Evan "Funk" Davies) and Lame Drivers... great show!
  10:47am
glenn:

as a matter of fact, i saw wire friday night.
  10:48am
Lucas:

No shows for me this weekend :(
  10:49am
Sean:

I'm seeing The Residents this Wednesday. I think it'll be a good week.
  10:49am
Lucas:

But last week I saw Oso el roto and did help him to play one song :) !!!
  10:49am
Parq:

Liz, had the pleasure of seeing two free live music events as part of the New School's "Noir" fest. In the afternooon, saw Marc Mulcahey leading a quartet on a wonderfully quirky Ben Katchor musical about one of his classic characters, an upper east sider obsessed with coat checkroom.
  10:51am
Parq:

Went home to feed the dogs and came back to catch Marc Ribot leading a nine-piece band through famous movie scores and the Lounge Lizards' back catalog.
Wasn't able to make to it Evan's gig. I'm sure he killed.
  10:52am
Azam:

No music last weekend, but will be seeing Mulatu Astatke in May...can't wait.
  10:52am
DumbSchmuck:

I caught the Muckety Monks at Bazuto, Manolo Smith did a late set. It was a Saturday to remember. Flashy lights and jilted bodies! mmm.
  10:53am
BSI:

Eugene Chadbourne & Tatsuya Nakatani here in DC friday........ it was wacky....
  10:53am
BSI:

well technically MD, but, eh....
  10:55am
glenn:

you know those polls in guitar player magazine et. al. of the 100 top guitarists? the ones that never put richard thompson at the top where he belongs? how come marc ribot is never mentioned? he's fantastic.
  10:57am
Carmichael:

Glenn, I saw Marc Ribot on publid TV awhile back and he is brilliant. Also agree re: RT. Just saw him two weeks ago, finally playing ELECTRIC guitar. He was good and loud.
  10:57am
PlaidSkirt:

I saw 10 soldiers on a field and after the massacre they did an encore even though it was a matinee. I would see that show again. Love Spring! That was my weekend.
  11:00am
Parq:

Guys, it was really something to see Ribot do tho old Lizards stuff. I saw the Lizards once, long ago, and watched Arto Lindsey pretty carefully. His playing is completely impulsve, as bash and slash as a rock drummer. Ribot produces the same sounds, but when you watch him, you can see that every note and non-note is completely thoughtful and deliberate. He never makes a sound without having intended to make it. Something else, man.
  11:00am
alejandro:

parq are you a new schooler? I am listening to Liz in the New School computer lab as we speak :) The noir festival is awesome...guy maddin!
  11:00am
glenn:

my ears are still ringing from wire.
  11:01am
glenn:

guy maddin's the third coolest thing to come from winnipeg.
  11:03am
Lucas:

Wire are amazing live Glenn. When I saw them I had the impression that the drummer was making mistakes, but at the end it was great
  11:03am
Parq:

'Jandro, no, but have been going to classe and events there for decades, *So* wish we could see the Madden, but a good friend is in the Moth story slam at Highline the same night.
  11:05am
alejandro:

oh cool! well glad you made it some of the festival
  11:06am
glenn:

i've seen them three times over a thirty year time span. mr gotobed plays very simply, but he is a virtual metronome. i think he's a great drummer.
  11:08am
glenn:

on the other hand, the drummer for weekend, who opened for wire, was all over the place, and i find it hard to listen to a band with a bad drummer. not the weekend with alison statton and spike either, more's the pity.
  11:11am
Lucas:

@Glenn, yeah i like him too, but i had that impression... maybe i'm wrong...
  11:15am
glenn:

maybe he had an off. night. playing 2/4 time at 300 beats a minute ain't easy.
  11:17am
BSI:

tasty, this sound.
  11:17am
dc pat:

BSI: dang, love Chadbourne. Parq: that's the exact impression I get from Ribot from listening to him. I went through a period where I tried to play ever not on purpose like what I thought Ribot was doing instead of my usual "whatever my fingers want to do" method...
  11:18am
dc pat:

I mean "everY notE" dammit
  11:20am
Lucas:

@Glenn Yes, surely. But I like mistakes too :)
  11:20am
glenn:

by the way, if anybody's going to see wire and hasn't purchased red barked tree yet, you get a free four song e.p. of extra tracks if you buy it from the merch booth.
  11:20am
BSI:

DCP: I wasn't sure how Chadbourne would mix with Nakatani, but it had magic. EC's tunes would devolve into these extended dynamic jams, very cool. Communication was great between the two.
  11:23am
Lucas:

Waw LIz what is this?!? Opera Mort is great!
  11:23am
glenn:

see, in my opinion, everybody else in the band can go wherever they want, in terms of rhythm or melody or chords or whatever, but the drummer has got to be dead nuts.
  11:29am
Cecile:

morning all. Not chatty, but digging the vibe and tunes.
  11:32am
Lucas:

@Glenn: I see your point. It depends on the music you're playing. "Bad musicians" are great too
  11:34am
Parq:

Every musician should at least be on the same page as everyone else. Saw Brightback Morning Light a year or two ago, and the leader was unfocused and self-indulgent. Not my kinda sound at all.
  11:35am
edinblack:

This is somewhere between Snakefinger and the Legendary Pink Dots...
  11:35am
dc pat:

Chadbourne is an excellent improvisationist--it's amazing what he can do with a Dobro.
  11:37am
edinblack:

This one's fun!
  11:38am
Carmichael:

Are these the guys who do Her Hispanic Majesty's Request?
  11:41am
edinblack:

That is, Mexican Institute of Sound is fun!
  11:42am
Cecile:

You can have a limited voice and still be a great singer. Witness Hank Williams or Peggy Lee.
  11:43am
Parq:

Yeah, dug the Mex Inst too. Great music, great chat, everyone. Must go converse, confer and otherwise hobnob with my brother wage slaves. Onward to lunch -- and Irene.
  11:56am
Carmichael:

Liz, thanks for a stellar show as usual.
  11:56am
Liz B.:

Thank YOU, Carmichael, as well as everybody else hanging around here today!
  12:03pm
maja:

I am so much too late but I loved your show!
  2:40pm
S. Barrios:

discovered your program several months ago / and it gives me the good feeling like nothing else. thanks !
