We are the 801, we are the Central Shaft ... Eno said that came to him in a mescaline dream. Let the dream begin!

I think you mean "Ecnirp" - sounds great tho!
|
Mon. 1/31/11 9:18pm
Dan B:
@fleep, that happens a lot with pop songs...kinda weird, but basically I think it's because they are very static and the production is designed to be instantly recognizable and running them backwards doesn't garble the sheen put on them in the production room.

It's Phil Manzaners's birthday. The Eno collaborations on Manzanera's Diamond Head album are also great.

I like the Seefeel song. Thanks for sharing.

Dan, I see that you played Prince backwards, which is eerie: I was listening to my copy of Purple Rain yesterday and was thinking that playing "Purple Rain," then playing it backwards, then alternating for three hours, might make for a good radio show. I wrote it down in my notebook of show ideas. Backwards Purple Rain in the air.

Just a few months ago, I was wondering what ever happened to Seefeel, and then FMU starts playing a *new* album by them. What icon of my 90s college years will resurrect itself next? Lush? Bel Canto?
|
Mon. 1/31/11 10:08pm
Dan B:
@Brad, my spies are everywhere -- bwahahaha! @Ike, I'm voting for Lush!

Rik Littles was amazing. thanks.

Dan B:
@bill, weird record, right? I have no idea who he is or where he comes from, it's just one of those total DIY projects on CD-R that comes in to the station all the time and is warped and brilliant in its own little way.

Ah, solo bassoon here we go...a first for Airborne Event, I believe -- thx Katherine Young!

Patricia Highsmith's first novel, Strangers on a Train (1950) was made into a successful film by Alfred Hitchcock.

Hi Dan. Loved the Ethan Rose track. Speaking of Hot Hits, that darned Rick Astley track from last week rattled around in my head all week and I couldn't help making up corrupted lyrics to go with it!

Pop death metal. | |

Mon. 1/31/11 10:50pm
Dan B:
@fleep, thanks, I knew I could depend on you guys. @Rick, sorry about that, but please do post the corrupted lyrics for the rest of the class! @Parq, there will be pop death metal, per your request! (I hope.)

I like when Airborne Event is rambunctious, but I sometimes like the more reflective stuff even more. The two work nicely together on your show. Thanks Dan, always fun to tune in.

Dan B:
@Rick, thanks -- as you can probably tell, I'm always veering toward the 10 minute long deep trancy tracks, though I do like to goof off sometimes too. Ideally, the show is like a Nurse With Wound song -- who got profundity in my goofiness?

The Muppets sound really different on this version of Manamana

It's the version recorded after Kermit had brought them all to the frog bog and hypnotized them with the spring mating peeps of his kith and kin.

Nurse With Wound will be a pleasure to learn about and explore. The little I've heard was just like you said!
