Playlist for This Is The Modern World with Trouble - January 25, 2011

Tuesdays 9am - Noon on WFMU 91.1 fm 90.1 fm wfmu.org

A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Tue. 1/25/11 10:37am Marmalade Kitty:

Interesting interview Trouble.. I discovered wfmu.org whilst looking for music used on a UK Public Information Film.. The music was Brass Monkey - John Cameron!

Tue. 1/25/11 10:42am Billy Badger Eater:

I'm really enjoying this - particularly the Vladmir Cosma material. Keep up the fantastic work! Bravo!

Tue. 1/25/11 10:45am erella:

Theres's a similar thing, another canadian, David Pritchard's- Nocturnal Earthworm Stew that came out in the mid 70's that sounded like Wozard of iz... sort of. I wonder if you've heard of it.

Tue. 1/25/11 10:54am jen v.:

i'm loving this set/interview/conversation!

Tue. 1/25/11 10:54am Marmalade Kitty:

RUSSIAN TRACK BY MARTYNOV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W62M3F9M5L4

Tue. 1/25/11 11:13am ranjit:

Hey listener james! I've been having trouble confirming that "fast forward" even existed - more recent tv shows with the same name soak up all the googles. So I'm glad to see you mentioning it.

Tue. 1/25/11 11:18am bw:

Trouble: "My kid is not hip" man, poor guy he is gonna have to answer for that on the playground

Tue. 1/25/11 11:19am listener james from westwood:

It did indeed. I guess it preceded the wide availability of home taping, so there may not be a lot of examples to have been uploaded to YouTube. But I did watch that, and another science show called "L-5" about a bunch of astronauts on a space station. Music was actually more "Blue Danube" a la "2001" vs. electronic. They discussed Earth and space science, then, in the final ep. they pulled back and showed that the "space station" was in fact a studio set. First time I saw someone break the 4th wall on TV.

Tue. 1/25/11 11:21am dc pat:

my daughter has the same problem (talking to peers about music) so now she's rebelling, walks around singing....I don't know what. But then I catch her in her room listening to Ramones, Beatles, Shame 69, Joanna Newsom...

Tue. 1/25/11 11:27am aaron in chicago:

fyi that russian track transliterates to "shkatulka s sekretom"

Tue. 1/25/11 11:29am Webhamster Henry:

Nice stuff this morning! I have some library music myself, much of it unusably bad. So bad it's not even ironic, just bad.

Tue. 1/25/11 11:38am trouble:

spaciba for the pa ruski!

Tue. 1/25/11 11:38am ringo the dog:

This is a great show this morning. The music here reminds me of Broadcast.

Tue. 1/25/11 11:51am Mariano:

Is it Viva? The Warhol girl?

Tue. 1/25/11 11:54am βrian:

I think that's pronounced "Ki - mera, " similar to chiropractor.

Thu. 2/3/11 10:58am Neal:

Amazing sound collage by the curator of one of the finest obscure nostalgia blogs in existence. Lovely stuff.
