Happy day, fellows
Wed. 1/12/11 3:10pm Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: As is typical, this morning of hump-day blew, but the storms have subsided in time for my 3-6 fun!

The weather around Washington wasn't very bad but was extremely ICY last night--I almost fell a couple times walking on sidewalk to my car.

Aren't burgers the other way around? They don't want grill space taken up or complaints about overcooked meat (which you can't correct), so I thought Medium Well is what you should order to get Medium, no?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:14pm Ike:

Mike East, extra socks here too. Stupid meatspace, requiring we carry around crap like socks! When we can someday all upload ourselves into the FMU comments system, we won't need socks anymore, and we can become one w/Lee Morgan, and avoid brown slush forever. But then the Russian spammers will get us. That might be worse than brown slush.

I'm referring to delivery hamburgers...everywhere I go (except Island Burger) ends up well done and dry. My theory is that it keeps cooking while the guy is walking over here.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:19pm Laura L:

Is that the origin of free jazz?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:20pm Bad Ronald:

Mike, you are absolutely correct.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:21pm frenchee:

ooh, Glenn said "undulate."

Wed. 1/12/11 3:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, looks like ifny is from the Hudson valley.

@Mike: That makes sense for delivery foods--they cook while in transit, their moisture evaporates, and you don't know for sure if they were made-to-order--you could have been dealt someone else's reject!
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:33pm ifny:

Ha, I was gonna say this reminds me of Deerhoof. Glad I didn't say that.

@Matt from Springfield: no, but my country of origin might remind you of it. Look to the North.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:35pm ifny:

Oh the Bad Plus is so very very good. The only time I ever sprung $$$ for a ticket to the Blue Note Tokyo. Dave King is sure being restrained this track. Possibly literally?
Wed. 1/12/11 3:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Your MFU acrostic made me think Hudson Valley, I suppose you hail from Canadia then?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:37pm Irwin:

@ifny: Dave King is awesome, even when underplaying. He's no Max Roach -- who is? -- but he'll do nicely.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:41pm glenn:

matt, we prefer the term soviet canuckistan.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:42pm slugluv1313:

AH!!!!!! TAJ MAHAL!!!!!!! thanks, Irwin!
Wed. 1/12/11 3:43pm Matt from Springfield:

Oh no glenn, was that SCTV where the Soviets take control of Canada's TV REAL?! Do your tractors give romantic advice from the reincarnated Stalin?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:44pm Too Honest:

I really don't need a conference. And I lost my marbles long ago.
Wed. 1/12/11 3:47pm Matt from Springfield:

I'd love to see 7SD live @the UCB--I just might plan my next vacation to NY to coincide with a Wednesday night show.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:47pm glenn:

no, i think that was pat buchanan. or maybe robertson, i can't tell the diff.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:48pm rrg:

I love this. From "Meet Glen Campbell", the 2008 album, right?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:51pm ifny:

@Irwin: ooh yes, no disagreement there re: Dave King. Even his breathing is awesome. I always find the anticipation mounting though when he is low key, knowing the beast that lives within.

@Matt from Springfield: indeed, I'm cuddling with my tractor right now, just to stay warm in my characterless cold water flat.
Wed. 1/12/11 3:51pm Matt from Springfield:

To be literal, Irwin, "bi" monthly would mean "two monthly", "semi" monthly would mean "half/part monthly". I think bimonthly means every two months.
Wed. 1/12/11 3:52pm Matt from Springfield:

ZOMBIES! The COOL kind!
@ifny: Where a tractor is a dear friend...give your tractor something nice this holiday season.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:53pm rrg:

Bi-monthly means every other month (i.e. once every two months). Semi-monthly means twice a month.

Isn't that what Irwin said?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:54pm ben drinken:

a biweekly pay check means you get paid every two weeks. maybe it is supposed to be bi-weekly
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:54pm Too Honest:

Bi one, get one free.
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:55pm Ike:

It's so confusing. Merriam-Webster says bimonthly can be either. (WTF?!) Semimonthly can only mean twice a month. I also thought these had hyphens, but not per M-W. Yikes.

Sorry I'm late - Ken and Andy are doing what kind of Bi show again?
Wed. 1/12/11 3:57pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

bi-curious?
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:58pm rrg:

It's these kids. They don't speak good.

Bi-monthly means every two months, period. They can change the language all they want but they can't take that away from me.
Wed. 1/12/11 3:58pm Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful Au Revoir Simone.

DJ Julie did a "Binary Curious" show yesterday in honor of the 1/11/11 date. I was thrilled!
  Wed. 1/12/11 3:58pm Irwin:

We need Laura L to settle this bi-matter unilaterally.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:00pm MM-H:

this music is tight yo....;)
Wed. 1/12/11 4:03pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

you just sort of trailed off there...tight yogurt?
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:03pm ifny:

There are two kinds of people. Those who think they know what bimonthly means. And those who know the Janus faces of the Month of Bi.

There are bi kinds of people. And Janus rules them equally, bi-weekly
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:05pm geleni:

billy tipton. he was great :)

  Wed. 1/12/11 4:11pm Lizardner Dave:

There are two kinds of people. People who divide people into two kinds of people and people who don't. I'm the latter.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:12pm Everybody Sing:

I'm split on the issue.
Wed. 1/12/11 4:12pm school hand luke:

The particulars of "bi" usage are referred to as the binoculars.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:14pm ifny:

@Lizardner Dave: There are three kinds of people. People who divide people into two kinds of people, people who don't, and people who try to pass for one of the first two kinds of people. It's all about priorities.
Wed. 1/12/11 4:15pm Matt from Springfield:

There are two kinds of people: those who are good in math, those who are not good in math, and those who are so-so in math.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:15pm schizflow:

pedocore?
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:16pm ifny:

Thanks to my excellent Soviet education, I know for a fact that 2 legs good 4 legs bad.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:17pm bruceleh:

Love is a four-legged word.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:19pm Capt. & T.:

...in muskrat love, sure.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:22pm Robert:

I guess he doesn't have enough female vocal material to do an hour of gender bias at a time any more, but I still like the blocks of ladies singing.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:24pm rrg:

Yes, "Beauty and the Beat" was the Go-Go's [sic] first album.
Wed. 1/12/11 4:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, is it just me, or has WFMU been playing a lot of Brute Force lately? Irwin and I think Joe McG have played different songs by him recently. (Alas, none were the "Fuh King" song of infamy. F the CC!)
Wed. 1/12/11 4:33pm Matt from Springfield:

YES! Everybody's got something to hide, except for Mimi and her birdbath.
Wed. 1/12/11 4:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Well then, I guess I know what album to acquire next!
Thanks Irwin!
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:46pm schizflow:

robert wyatt might be getting more play for the same reason
Wed. 1/12/11 4:46pm Richard from Venezuela:

Thanks for The Bad Plus song.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:57pm Miss Tucker:

I'm fat and I f---. Deal.
  Wed. 1/12/11 4:57pm rrg:

They've all cooled down but her.
Wed. 1/12/11 5:01pm Matt from Springfield:

Nice little chapter on Sophie Tucker--the old-school Red Hot Mamas (Bessie Smith et al) pleasantly surprise me whenever I discover them.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:09pm Chris:

Love the Roy Budd!
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:10pm Too Honest:

This Budd's for us.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:10pm Ike:

All right, it's the main theme from Get Carter! Love this. By far, the best thing about the movie, which is very memorable but... not exactly enjoyable IMO.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:20pm Bill:

Love the Menahan St Band! Can't wait to see them with Charles Bradley at Southpaw later this month.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:23pm bruceleh:

Loneliest Man in Town?
If you guys had RBS Zoom you could play 'Loneliest Room in the WORLD'
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:25pm rrg:

Twice a month is not every other week!
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:26pm Too Honest:

THE OLD CODGER IS REALLY DEAD!!! HE IS WALKING IN THE ZEBRA CROSSING BAREFOOT, ON HIS FAN PAGE!!!! PLAY SOPHIE TUCKER WAX CYLINDERS BACKWARDS FOR THE REAL STORY!!!
Wed. 1/12/11 5:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Chris Stamey AND YLT--great combo!
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:26pm rrg:

So what is it? Semi-monthly, or bi-weekly?
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:26pm Irwin:

@rrg: Don't demagogue the issue.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:27pm bruceleh:

especially when you have to pay child support every other week!
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:27pm Laura L:

I was working so missed the bi controversy while it was hot. Oxford says it means both. We do have "semimonthly" to mean twice a month, but people just don't use that word. There's no hyphen in "bi" or "semi" compounds per Chicago Manual of Style going back a few editions. I like "twice a month" like you just said, Irwin. Crystal clear.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:28pm Too Honest:

Bi the bi..: Bi what authority?
Wed. 1/12/11 5:29pm John and Paul:

Can't bi me love, everybody tells me so.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:30pm Everybody Sing:

....We will understand things better, bi and bi....
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:32pm jaycjay:

Semimonthly and biweekly, though, don't mean the same thing. One happens 24 time a year and the other 26.0
Wed. 1/12/11 5:33pm Bi Nary Code:

Shh, it's a secret.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:34pm Ringo:

Don't pass me bi...
Wed. 1/12/11 5:36pm Bi Nary Code:

Them Netnakisum ladies are lookin' pretty bi on their cover art.
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:42pm Monte:

I know this one!!!
  Wed. 1/12/11 5:56pm Lizardner Dave:

Hope Irwin doesn't mind me putting this here but I thought my fellow listeners might be interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rstvmo/r-stevie-moore
