Chris:
Wow, this Bowie reissue has been getting lots of play on WFMU lately. No complaints here!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:18am
Joe McG:
I like this record, although this 3 CD treatment is overkill to me. Don't need the whole Nassau Coliseum show, honest.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:19am
D. Blumin:
Wity reverb it coulda been a 4cd jam!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:21am
Joe McG:
Yeah! I should've left the reverb in full effect!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:32am
Blind Lemon Hasselhoff:
Electric Sandwich! And you thought my name was silly.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:34am
Joe McG:
OK, the gauntlet has been thrown down. Anyone care to share their blues name from the blues name generator? http://www.outliermusic.com/jokes_bluesname.htm
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:35am
Joe McG:
Mine is "Boney Gumbo Lee," incidentally.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:36am
D. Blumin:
Old Bad Boy McGee fer me, Boney.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:38am
Joe McG:
Bad Boy McGee and Boney Gumbo Lee recorded for Paramount in the 20s, I think. Sold their souls to Robert Johnson for some peanut butter and crackers.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:38am
cheri:
happy holidays joe & daniel!!! i hope you get everything you guys want and more!!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:39am
Joe McG:
Cheri, you are always full of the holiday spirit. Even when it's not a holiday! Cheers!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:43am
Mike VL:
Hi Joe! Mine is "Jailhouse Killer Jenkins" Not too bad, but "Boney Gumbo" is hard to beat!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:45am
Mike Sin:
My blues name is Chadwick P. Worthington, Esq.

Sun. 12/12/10 12:46am
fleep:
That's your blue *blood* name
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:49am
fleep:
Boney Liver Davis. Liver? You get Gumbo, he gets Killer, I get "Liver"?? This is rigged.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 12:51am
Joe McG:
Maybe it was supposed to be "Lover."
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:19am
Matt from Springfield:
Millie ROCKS! Thanks for introducing me to her some time ago Joe!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:21am
Matt from Springfield:
I saw your game above: JAILHOUSE. SUGAR. BAILEY. "Jailhouse" and "Sugar" should never appear next to each other! Though I gotta say Blind Lemon Hasselhoff has a GREAT name!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:26am
Matt from Springfield:
(blushes) Had to call me out on the Air... I've been trying out the "formula" on that website. The best initials to have (IMO) would be F-G-O: that would give you "Hollerin' Killer King"!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:31am
Joe McG:
Hey, Matt! Glad to know you dig Millie. She is possibly the Greatest. Hollerin' Killer is indeed a great blues name. Or indie rock name, for that matter...
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:35am
Matt from Springfield:
Hi Joe! Thanks as well for that Cochise, first time I heard of them. Good early 70s stoner rock! And this Josie Cotton, the fun never ends!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:36am
Joe McG:
Cochise has a fairly, uh, impressive LP cover. Google it and see what I mean.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:39am
Matt from Springfield:
NATURE is indeed impressive (wink)... The designer was a British design group called Hipgnosis, and they apparently designed TONS of album covers in the classic rock era: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hipgnosis
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:41am
Joe McG:
Wow, didn't know it was Hipgnosis!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:45am
Matt from Springfield:
Now this is what I call disco! I wish disco after '75 had taken on more of this disco-funk feel to it. (Not to mention these great names!)
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:45am
Matt from Springfield:
Oooh, and samba percussion!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:46am
Joe McG:
Not to mention some crazy guy ranting about his rhinestone shoes over the top!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:56am
Matt from Springfield:
Chad and Jeremy in the LATE 60s! Taking more of a Ray Davies path here.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 1:59am
Matt from Springfield:
Dear Lord, was that the "Leader Of The Pack" car crash sound fx?! And a siren to boot!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:01am
Joe McG:

Joe McG:
Hey, Lauren! Whatchu doing up so late??
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:16am
Matt from Springfield:
I enjoy the "Joe and Daniel Blumin Show"! And welcome Lauren, now we have a party!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:18am
Joe McG:
Lauren is right, I usually play M.I.A. at least once per week.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:19am
lauren berry:
i substituted studying for finals by going to the bar. also have to be at work tomorrow :(
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:19am
lauren berry:
haha. i mean i know she's your favorite and all but we get it.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:21am
Matt from Springfield:
And I agree with Daniel B, you would be the only person to have Boxing Day records! I can imagine you playing in Single File a Bee Gees ballad titled "Boxing Day, The Day After", a 1968 B-side to their single "Oklahoma" (!)
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:22am
Joe McG:
Wow, Matt, thanks for the suggestion! I may use that one. Too bad M.I.A. didn't record a boxing day song, Lauren.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:23am
lauren berry:
a girl can dream.. | |
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:24am
Matt from Springfield:
@lauren: Don't sweat it--when I was in college I would sometimes study Saturday daytimes for important tests, but I just had fun Fri and Sat nights--you're not going to concentrate at that time anyway, wait till you can concentrate in the daytime.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:25am
lauren berry:
there's a solid 3 days till my 5 different 10 page papers are due. saturday is relegated to drinking/finally making it to hear joe's show! so glad i caught it
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:27am
Matt from Springfield:
Joe, the WFMU library is very huge. Suppose you went in there and actually found the single I described...that would be creepy! The Suzan is great, I thought this was an 80s British girl band when the song began, are they going on tour?
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:29am
Joe McG:
I'm not sure, Matt. I literally picked up that CD today without having ever heard of them, so I have much research to do. They look adorable on the cover and the CD so far is great, so I'm pretty excited about 'em.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:31am
Matt from Springfield:
Go Lauren! There's value too in being happy! Do you have to cite sources? Make sure that's in order, because finishing papers but realizing you have to footnote/add a bibliography in a short amount of time is stressful!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:33am
lauren berry:
luckily pace university barely quantifies as a school and i get to write a paper about fritz the cat an 30 rock. that cuts out half of the guess work
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:34am
(mta) Tony:
Hi Joe, happy holidaze, all... Yes, I've seen "3 in the Attick" when it was first introduced theatrically. I was only a child of 16 but I understood what was going on. 3 pretty chicks of varying races were "hurt" (emotionally, of course) by men, so they decided to pay men back by handcuffing one in an attic after getting him wiped out on some shit; anyway, the point of the story was that the 3 girls would take turns having sex with him until he had no semen left to ejaculate, then they would give him more orgasms in an attempt to kill him with sex. I have a factory copy of it which I would love to share with you for Christmas, on dvd. I won't reveal the conclusion of the film or any other details except to say it was worth the time seeing. Never would I ever have thought that 41 years later, I would be asked about this film. Anyone who may want a copy may ask me, too.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:36am
Joe McG:
Tony, after this amazing description, I would never refuse your offer of a copy of this masterpiece. Thanks!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:36am
(mta) Tony:
error, I meant, "3 in the Attic" not, "attick."
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:38am
lauren berry:
ok, adios joe. wish me luck on finals!! wish i weren't missing the holiday party but i'm sure there'll be enough drunken dj's to compensate.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:39am
Joe McG:
No worries, Tony. Good luck, Lauren! See you soon maybe!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:39am
Matt from Springfield:
@(mta) Tony: Some summary! If I get in the mood for weird films, I may take a look at that. (Alan Clarke's 1989 "Elephant" is coming soon in my Netflix, I need to see that "weird film" first!) @Joe: The Suzan are a Japanese "riot girl" (not riot grrl?) band who evidently played at SXSW 2010, and their album was released in July.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:40am
(mta) Tony:
You're welcome, Joe; just send via regular email the physical address to which you want me to send it to.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:40am
Matt from Springfield:
Best of luck Lauren! Have a good night!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:48am
(mta) Tony:
Matt from Springfield: I have many weird films in my vast library but the very last one I just finished viewing was, "Andy Warhol's Bad" which I don't think you can purchase commercially. A chick runs a "hit man for hire" service. It isn't a great film, but there is one classic scene that you'll never forget involving a baby. It's VERY realistic. If you wanna see something weird, I can suggest this one, as well as several others since I specialize in "weird" films, as long as they have at least one "classic" moment.
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:51am
Matt from Springfield:
Andy W's certainly got "weird films" down pat!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:54am
Joe McG:
Hey, Tony, you can send it to me at the station: PO Box 2011, Jersey City, NJ 07303. Mucho appreciado!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:59am
Matt from Springfield:
Wow, The Waves before being called Katrina and- ! Good night Joe, and happy listening everybody!
|
Sun. 12/12/10 2:59am
(mta) Tony:
You got it, Joe; just be patient while I do the DVD transfer from the factory VHS tape. It isn't available commercially on DVD so I have to make it myself from the tape. I have many "unreleased on dvd" films on VHS that I haven't yet transferred into the digital domain. I do them on an "as needed" basis so have patience while I do the transfer.
