A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:36am
Andrew:

Salvation Armies and flea markets are good places to find typewriters.
  9:36am
Patrick:

Typewriter.... I might have one for you, but the best place to find one is at the Nurses Sale. thats where i found most of mine, well that was years ago when typewrites where not cool and i was still in NJ
  9:37am

Talk to James Siena, friend of WFMU

Darn, I just threw away an electric typewriter a year ago. Saved the case, though.
  9:43am
trouble:

hey patrick. yes the VNA would have been perfect but i was not obsessed with finding des a typewriter yet when i shopped there. the obsession is newer and most crazy. But then there is the smallness and fab color issue, so i suppose i am just cuckoo.
  9:43am
Patrick:

hey trouble have you heard this yet.... http://www.catbirdseat.org/archives/2127.php
  9:44am
jan:

I just confrimed what I already knew- typewriters go unsold or for very little money on ebay. Typewriters have little value...there will be many more like like the one you passed on.
  9:45am
trouble:

the cool blog is toysandtechniquesdotblogspotdotcom
  9:46am
dc pat:

just saying hello. Hello.
  9:46am
still b/p:

Loved my old typewriters. Scouted sales for them once upon a (80s) time. (Even mailed an extra-chunky Royal halfway across the country for a friend to repair.) But I'm too damn cross-fingered and revision-compulsive to give up the computer's cleaner ease....though there's something lost in that.
  9:48am
Patrick:

From my experience palstic typewrites have not held up as well as older ones. if i where you i would try to find one made of cast steal, old Royals are not hard to find and most of them come in black or olive green. you could always find one paint it with enamel paint.

good luck hunting, like i said ill keep my eyes peeled here in Cols.
  9:51am
βrian:

@still b/p Indeed. Our pinkies have atrophied.
  9:56am
Adrian in London:

Morning all. I just discovered The Clientele last week, thanks to Irene Trudel playing Bonfires on the Heath. I feel like someone's dad raving about Robbie Williams or James Blunt or someone. Where have I been?!
  10:06am
MAD:

A few requests: Camera Obscura or Timi Yuro or Amadou & Mariam

Of course, I appreciate your discretion.

Gracias, MAD

  10:21am

  10:26am
trouble:

  10:27am
Adrian in London:

Paul, The Clientele are playing the Borderline with Damon and Naomi on 18 December. It'll involve me leaving the house and everything, but i might pop along. They're supposed to be good live.
  10:33am
trouble:

kayt that sounds great! i will look for it! hope you are well...
  10:37am
postmanpaul:

@Jamesie - I sleep beside the coast in Brighton each night. My mind is under water and squally coastal clouds.
@Adrian - I look forward to reading your review!
  10:37am
lilsis:

Good Morning, Trouble!! Were you left wanting after Sunday night PBS?
  10:39am

  10:51am
Erella:

aw, there is nothing like this song right now. It breaks my heart to hear. Thank you trouble.
  10:52am
MAD:

Trouble,
Thank you. I, too, am a big Jeremy Brett fan. That series was some of the best PBS ever. Well, there was The Jewel in the Crown series and I Claudius. But, je suis d'accord, the new Sherlock works.
Cheers, MAD
  10:55am
ken:

this luiz bonfa sounds like those amazing monsieur hulot soundtracks. where can i get, like, 465 hours of that kind of music? gibson guitar, marimba? love it.
  10:55am
Adrian in London:

Francophile film fans, may I recommend Casque d'Or, with Simone Signoret and Serge Reggiani. It's about a gangster's moll, set in the Belle Epoque. It's out on DVD and is a really good film. Lots of people get slapped. What more do you need?
  10:59am
fishmonkeystew:

The Triplets of Belleville is an AWESOME film!!!
  10:59am
MAD:

Never saw Trips of Belleville. Interesting music.
  11:00am
trouble:

people being slapped, i am going to second that!
  11:03am
postmanpaul:

Thanks for the French movie recommendation Adrian, I'll certainly look out for that. Re reviewing, I'm catching Goldfrapp - very 80's disco (her not me) on Sat and Neil Hannon at a matinee on Sun at Komedia.
  11:05am
Adrian in London:

Who do you review for?
  11:06am
Andrew:

Awesome! Post at his best.
  11:07am
Jennique:

OH MY GOD! ROCKFORD FILES! I have this opening sequence forever burned into my brain. Mostly because James Garner reminded me of my father. Thanks for the jolt down memory lane.
  11:08am
Andrew:

Crazy key-defying breakdown!
  11:10am
MD:

MacMillan and Wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11:14am

CHiPs theme rocks! next time
  11:14am
