Listener comments!

  Wed. 11/3/10 2:59pm ?:

Nothing, such as not bother voting?
Wed. 11/3/10 3:03pm Matt from Springfield:

But Irwin, you don't have to do anything to be a psycho! Strange powers, on the other hand, take years of skill to perfect.
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:04pm Clark Barr:

I doubt we will hear 3 hours of Chocolate City today...
Wed. 11/3/10 3:05pm another old man:

Yeah, it's Irwin time. Need it today so bring it old pal.
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:06pm mike connor:

the oriiginal name of this band was Steve, Bob, and Rich.

they were from Kansas City.

wow.... this is a blast from the past.
Wed. 11/3/10 3:07pm Matt from Springfield:

REALLY REALLY MAD!!!
Wed. 11/3/10 3:07pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

hittin' us early with the queen
Wed. 11/3/10 3:07pm Reader Between the Lines:

Does the juxtaposition inherent in in the picture imply something about Stephin Merritt's sometimes inscrutable mental state?
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:08pm jeremy:

your petrid odor can peel off paint - lol
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:09pm Political Consultant:

Amanda for VP '12!!!!~~~~~
Wed. 11/3/10 3:10pm Matt from Springfield:

AMANDA 20-12!!!
"Vote for me, or eat my pee!"
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:10pm Robert:

Duet or overdub?
Wed. 11/3/10 3:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Overdub, courtesy of Jody's production.
Uhhhh, I would hope it isn't a duet. There is only ONE Lady - Amanda. If there were two, one would be the corresponding Anti-manda, which I hope doesn't exist in this dimension...
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:15pm Kurt:

Yes, I DO have a gun.
Wed. 11/3/10 3:15pm Matt from Springfield:

Like this Vincent Malone! Almost a techno remix of a Guy Lombardo orchestra cover song!
Wed. 11/3/10 3:15pm Matt from Springfield:

Maybe more of a Herb Alpert techno remix...
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:17pm Laura L:

The new Clientele is splendid--thanks, Irwin.
Wed. 11/3/10 3:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Very cool new Clientele for sure, Laura!
Why is it a mini-LP, it has 8 songs. Some are only a minute but 26 mins easily makes an EP. Maybe they preferred "mini-LP" to "double-EP".
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:36pm jan:

I like "It came from You." maybe positive reinforcement might help.
Wed. 11/3/10 3:39pm Matt from Springfield:

@jan: MB is always great, love it!
See Emily Play! Nice cover.
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:49pm Laura L:

I saw Drink Me, at Fez I think it was, with the Old Codger. Could it have been 1934? Nice boys they were.
  Wed. 11/3/10 3:49pm AnAnonymousParty:

Two Pink Floyd tunes (almost) from FMU in one day? Did the world stop spinning or something?
Wed. 11/3/10 3:53pm Matt from Springfield:

I'd love to see MB live, have to see if he's coming to the DC area...
His events wouldn't be under-attended if we ALL crammed into the same show! (Or, if you play his music to your friends, make them go too!)
Wed. 11/3/10 3:57pm Matt from Springfield:

"Pram,", with the comma eh? Are they the Plastic Ono Band's opening act?
Wed. 11/3/10 4:01pm Denise in DC:

Matt, I never realized that your Springfield is the one in Virginia! I will gladly be one of the persons cramming an MB show, or any other show where DC-area 'FMU fans will gather.
Wed. 11/3/10 4:03pm Matt from Springfield:

There's so many WFMU listeners from the area (yourself, dc pat, Chris from DC, etc) or grew up in the area, we should coordinate for DC-area shows of 'FMU favorites!
Wed. 11/3/10 4:05pm Matt from Springfield:

Btw, DJ Julie once wondered which "Springfield" it was, I told her I was a few blocks over from Evergreen Terrace.
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:09pm AnAnonymousParty:

Is this the same Aztec Camera that did the cover of VH's 'Jump'?
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:09pm Irwin:

the ONLY Aztec Camera
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:11pm Mike East:

I consider it a tragedy that I don't own any Roky Erickson. I saw that documentary about him last year. That dude is no bullshit. I need to remedy this situation as soon as I have some extra cash.
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:21pm marq:

I am listening to the show today live. feels good. better than archived at another time and day. the thing about the archives rather than live, though, is that you can dedicate the time to pay attention to the whole show. listening live may miss some things. glad there is a playlist.
Wed. 11/3/10 4:21pm Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: Know anything about Tienerkoor? That was to the tune of Cliff Richard's "Congratulations" (a Eurovision song), and at first I thought they were singing the German birthday chant "Hoch soll Sie leben", Long May You Live. I think that version is Dutch.
Wed. 11/3/10 4:23pm Matt from Springfield:

@marq: Better still, listen live with enjoyment (and chat with the wonderful listener community!), and then backtrack to parts you missed in the Archives, or listen to a great or missed show. In a perfect world I would have time for both!
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:34pm marq:

I don't often get a chance to listen to most of the shows I like live. Maybe at some point I can afford an Iphone and be able to listen to wfmu all over the place. The ham radio signal only comes in at certain times of the day and it is hard to lug that thing around and also find the electricity for it.
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:38pm The Clash:

We were one-finger music. Guess which?
Wed. 11/3/10 4:40pm Font of Wikipedia:

"Frankie "Half Pint" Jaxon (February 3, 1895 - 1944 ?[1]) was an African American vaudeville singer, female impersonator, stage designer and comedian, popular in the 1920s and 1930s."..."although according to Allmusic he lived in Los Angeles until 1970."
Wed. 11/3/10 4:41pm Marc in Liverpool:

The iPad OS is getting updated soon, so I'll be able to use the app to stream and multitask.
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:44pm Jesus H Krist...:

Please pass this record on to the smash-a-thon...
Wed. 11/3/10 4:45pm Marc in Liverpool:

he sounds like Robbie Williams.
Wed. 11/3/10 4:51pm Dead Corporate Eyes:

more drums! more drums!
  Wed. 11/3/10 4:52pm CW:

More cowbell!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:03pm ron:

We're listening!!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:03pm Peanut Gallery:

Rock and/or roll, I believe...
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:04pm Joe Bacon:

Not true, Irwin, We love you ☺
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:04pm Oreck:

You have a gentle hand, Irwin.
Wed. 11/3/10 5:05pm Matt from Springfield:

I've got enough trouble rockin' out to Irwin while pretending to work, now the comments section is feeling neglected?

All right, comments section, but you're going to be getting a lot of pseudonyms and in-jokes as well! Can't chat with you as myself all the time you know!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:06pm ducky medwick:

i hate you comments section. you make my skin crawl. go away.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:10pm Hanson:

Careful what you say, ducky: if you ignore something, it will just go away...
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:11pm Peanut Gallery:

During a USO tour by a number of baseball players in 1944, Joe "Ducky" Medwick was among several individuals given an audience by Pope Pius XII. Upon being asked by the Pope what his vocation was, Medwick replied, "Your Holiness, I'm Joe Medwick. I, too, used to be a Cardinal."
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:12pm ducky:

not to mention a celibate geek, likewise!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:13pm Peanut Gallery:

Ha!
Wed. 11/3/10 5:15pm Matt from Springfield:

This is a cooooooool demo...at the opening riff I thought it was going to be a cover of the Zombies "She's Not There".
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:17pm Jandek:

Not nearly ugly enough yet, grasshoppah.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:18pm huh:

Why does Wikipedia say:
Tandyn Almer (born July 30, 1942 in Hennepin County, Minnesota) is a musician, composer, lyricist, and record producer, most famous for writing the song "Along Comes Mary", the 1966 hit by the Association.
???
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:19pm ?:

Please god!! No more Amanda!!!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:20pm Joe Bacon:

Ah, a second helping of Amanda!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:20pm David:

The more I hear of it, "Empires and Fifth Dimension Perspective" is Amanda's Rubber Soul.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:20pm huh:

and who is this Amanda and where can we find her?
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:21pm huh:

is this available on 8-track?
Wed. 11/3/10 5:21pm Matt from Springfield:

I and others probably have wondered, Jandek: have you ever thought of collaborating with this performer, Amanda?
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:21pm David:

LMAO! "Let's JUMP... on a parking meter!"
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:21pm Aharon:

Amanda, you haunt my dreams!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:22pm Jandek:

Amanda, alas, is way too instinctually talented to fit my um style.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:22pm David:

What the hell did Amanda's parents think?
Wed. 11/3/10 5:22pm Matt from Springfield:

@David: with this sped-up tape and guitar solo, "Fashion from Limbo" sounds like Amanda's Tomorrow Never Knows.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:22pm David:

Matt, you;'re RIGHT! LOL
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:23pm J5:

Is this Amanda like retarded or something? No seriously, I want to know.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:23pm Peteski:

What did I miss?
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:24pm Jandek:

@ Peteski: Nothing. Everything.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:24pm David:

She's a straight up genius.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:24pm huh:

More like a savant every day
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:25pm Flindar:

Yea, she's a tard man...
Wed. 11/3/10 5:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Brilliant segue, Irwin!
@Jandek: I suppose that you feel like going "against" any type of grain then! Even when the grain is beyond the norm.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:25pm David:

I need her on my iPod. Really really bad.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:26pm Jandek:

I'm just totally clueless. Don't overthink it.
Wed. 11/3/10 5:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Behold, David: the latest Amanda convert and Fan Club member.
Wed. 11/3/10 5:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jandek: Whatever you're doing, keep doing it.
You know, Irwin needs 52 new albums and mailers--I noticed his office is missing them. Be sure to send Irwin some.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:29pm Jandek:

Don't doubt me, dude. He needs more clutter to vacuum.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:34pm Stevil:

Amanda is a modern day Capt. Beefheart
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:34pm David:

People that do not like Amanda are extremely suspicious. I think they hate America. They hate our freedom.
Wed. 11/3/10 5:36pm Matt from Springfield:

Diggin' this new bed music! What is it?
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:36pm rosh:

Amanda AND a creepy Fernando cover song, where's a fainting couch when u need it?
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:39pm marq:

still not really listening to the show live but I have it playing on my ham. caught bits and peices. busy getting ready for the winter. it comes earlier than daylight savings time in vermont.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:40pm Jandek:

Fling *my* CDs from the top of the Brill Building!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:43pm marq:

irwin's voice sounds funny on the ham radio freq.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:45pm adamp:

marq, how do you receive it on ham radio, and is it difficult, expensive, prohibitive in any way? thanks!
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:46pm marq:

Can't tell you.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:46pm Listener John:

If anyone is interested, Amanda has a MySpace page. And there are some videos of her on youtube (maybe somebody mentioned that above). I been trying to figure out if she is the same person as Amanda Bynes, a young comic who used to be on something called "The Amanda Show." As you can tell, I've been doing random interweb searches . . .
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:49pm Listener John:

Apropos of Caetano Veloso: Did you all ever notice that all the sophisticated people listen to Brazilian music? It seems that way to me.

NB: I can't tell a samba from a bossa nova either . . .
Wed. 11/3/10 5:51pm Matt from Springfield:

@LJ: As a sophisticated person, I can tell you I was once really into old bossa nova stuff when I was about 20.
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:52pm Brasileiro:

Bossa nova was a certain version or offshoot of traditional samba, just like rock has all kinds of offshoot genres. This is a mournful lyric about a mysterious woman, who'd guess huh?
  Wed. 11/3/10 5:57pm Mike East:

This has been an excellent show, Irwin. Now its time that I catch the 194 back to Jersey. Good evening to you all!
Wed. 11/3/10 5:59pm Matt from Springfield:

"I drank an ocean of gin, what a sin"
I love gin--I have to remember to play this next time I'm drinking it!

A splendid time was had by all Irwin!
  Wed. 11/3/10 6:01pm Listene John:

Another great program. Thanks, Irwin!
