  3:00pm
PMD:

Am I #1???
  3:01pm
annie:

ya youbetcha
  3:01pm
Laura L:

PMD, you are not a number, you are a man.
  3:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hmm, I'm wavering between Hippy and Trustafarian Anarchist.

How's about them Anarcho-Syndicalists?
  3:05pm
PMD:

I am a man? huh.
  3:06pm
PMD:

annie..not my turn...
  3:07pm
Laura L:

PMD--you know, a la Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner--"I am not a number, I am a man!" Unless you're a chick.
  3:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

I just learned from Joe McGasko and Dan Blumin that B&S named themselves after a French children's TV show that was dubbed into English and played on the BBC.
  3:07pm
BSI:

I don't see no pacifascists on that chart, so i guess i'm out...
  3:08pm
annie:

pmd, i've been working, finished for the day just now...give me some eye-rest time.. right there.
  3:10pm
PMD:

I have been known to say 'peep'.
annie, glad to hear you're contributing to society ;-)
  3:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

So, is this chart a Political Compass, Pournelle Chart, a Nolan Chart, or something else? I'm leaning towards Pournelle...
  3:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BSI: You would seem to fit in with the Libertarian Nazi Greens just fine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_National_Socialist_Green_Party
(Even I can't believe that I'm not making this up!)
  3:18pm
Denise in DC:

As someone who obsessively edits Wikipedia, I'd like to remind you that an appearance in Wikipedia doesn't prove that something is true.
  3:18pm
BSI:

HA! erm, ooh......
  3:20pm
Marc in Liverpool:

What's this in the background, chilled out Wendy Carlos?
  3:21pm
Marshall Stacks:

Aren't you one of the Elders of WFMU, Irwin?
  3:23pm
annie:

pmd, i just went.. i'm working at home; indexing a book..
  3:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Denise: As a Wikipedia explorer myself, there are some things that are particularly suspect; but I looked into that group a year ago and they do exist, but they're mainly online, it's not like there's much Birkenstock-goosestepping going on. However some Native American kid who shot up his rez school claimed to have supported them.
  3:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: You'd best listen to the Elders (no matter your age). If you resist, they'll take your Hoover priviledges away!
  3:33pm
Denise in DC:

Matt, I'm not saying that the group doesn't exist; I'm simply pointing out that a Wikipedia reference, without more, is insufficient evidence of actual existence.

The group's website hasn't been updated since August 2009, but the material that's there certainly seems earnest enough. As a regular reader of The Onion, I like to believe that my bullshit meter is finely tuned. But I've been fooled at least once into thinking that a satirical article actually came from the religious right, so who knows.
  3:35pm
GS:

Guess you let one slip there...
  3:36pm
Jenniqua:

A M A N D A ! ! !
  3:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

YES! Is that an unreleased album?
  3:38pm
Denise in DC:

Note: There is no entry for this Amanda on Wikipedia.
  3:40pm
annie:

pmd, i also keep the fb go-game up while i work...scrabble takes too long to load and i have no idea if any moves have been made unless i go to the home page, too much hassle. so, go wins out.
  3:45pm
chris:

Hi everyone. Enjoying this, Irwin. Not missing 45s one bit at the moment. Resist the Man! Liberhippies unite!
  3:50pm
chris:

Hippertarians?
  3:50pm
Parq:

Struttin' my Stuff, y'all, from -- what was it, 1975? And it probably was a single!
  3:52pm
Christine O'Donnell:

I'm a good dancer. I don't know the Constitution, but I'm a good dancer.
  3:52pm
chris:

A local cat (if you live in San Geronimo Valley, Marin, California, USA). Definitely a hippertarian.
  3:54pm
Denise in DC:

Irwin, is there any info available on line about Amanda? I searched some of your posts on Beware of the Blog, but didn't find anything.
  4:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Denise: I wonder how much more presence Amanda would need before a Wiki page can get started (w/o being speedy deleted as vanity page). I'm told the MySpace page isn't that informative. I know a lot re: Amanda, but it wouldn't fit into my current blog--Irwin could do a BotB post, and I could start a more general blog and expand on it.
  4:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

Gosh, I could use a dry martini while wearing a Brooks Brothers suit with that Jazz Pizzicato.
  4:17pm
Denise in DC:

She has a MySpace page? I wasn't even aware of that.
  4:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

Jackie Lomax was a "subsidized" original Apple artist, with a backing band supplied by the Beatles and their colleagues (Clapton, Preston, Hopkins and other greats).
@Irwin: His greatest contribution to Western Civ was as one of four male harmony vocals in "Dear Prudence". I'm at a loss for another...
  4:32pm
Katya:

Take a break for a bite and run the risk of missing Amanda. Jeepers....
  4:33pm
Katya:

but return just in time for classic bubblegum! Yay!
  4:34pm
Katya:

Wish that set of Ballroom sessions wasn't so expensive.
  4:35pm
Irwin:

Hi, Kat!
  4:36pm
Katya:

Hey, stranger! What's the source of this hilarious chart?
  4:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Here's your chance at redemption, Katya!
  4:38pm
Irwin:

I'll link the source later. Forget at the mo. Found it online a few weeks ago.
  4:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Bye Horrible Hybrid Tulips, hope you have a nice death!" LOL!
HHT sounds like it's a no-budget sci-fi drive-in movie from 1959.
  4:41pm
Katya:

Isn't she great, Matt? Thanks for bringing her to the world, Irwin. Curmudgeonly ole right winger, you always make me smile. Your mind is a crazy machine.
  4:44pm
PMD:

Irwin, you aren't a rebel. You're just short.
  4:44pm
KC in MKE:

Denise in DC - Amanda's brother has a lot of her stuff here:
http://www.youtube.com/user/Jerserf#p/u/1/jwAupnFB7Fg
  4:45pm
Denise in DC:

Thanks, KC!
  4:45pm
Denise in DC:

Gosh, Irwin, that chuckle sounded evil.
  4:45pm
Sean:

Is Amanda available on 8 track?
  4:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Katya: Luv her! Easy for Amanda to become the highlight of any Wednesday.

Since you brought up the chart again, here's a bit of graphic design bias I noticed: the two axis cover the entire square, as there are data points over the entire square. BUT, there's only a small intersection displayed in the middle, with large arrows taking up space. Therefore it makes most items seem "off the charts" and even more extreme!
  4:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

It's the Cabal of Moderate Democrats, Country-Club Republicans, Social Conservatives, Bums, Unions and Trustafarian Anarchists! Trying to make themselves look better in comparison!
  4:49pm
Ralph Nader:

You know all members of that Cabal are really the SAME thing anyway, Matt.
  4:51pm
Katya:

Yes, the layout really changes the scene, doesn't it? I love the way the boring cookie cutter middle class who only follow the herd are considered individualists.
  4:53pm
Katya:

bubblegum --> Amanda --> bubblegum --> killer Lee Morgan. Long live freeform, baby!
  4:54pm
Monarchist Dandy:

chart source:

http://pajamasmedia.com/zombie/2010/10/11/the-electric-tea-party-acid-test/
  4:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

Lee Morgan encore!
There's two sounds that thoroughly de-stress me Wednesday afternoons. One is "Yes I Can, No You Can't" @ 3 pm, which I've already chatted about. The other is the analog synth-drums in the keyboard demo, as I anticipate Amanda bellowing in!
  4:56pm
Katya:

Monarchist Dandy! I love it. These are beautiful. Say, did you know bums and hobos are totally different? I would think the bums would be on the other side of the chart. Hobos have their own language and symbols and all that, so aren't they on the Collectivism side of things?
  4:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bravo Irwin, been a while since the last Koichi Sugii.
  4:59pm
Katya:

Oh silly me. "A hobo is an itinerant laborer who chooses homelessness because of the freedom it affords him, but who is proud of his self-sufficiency and will take temporary jobs to support himself wherever possible. A bum on the other hand is someone who is poor because he simply refuses to work or support himself, and instead is unashamed to survive on handouts and other people’s generosity. Because hobos celebrate individualism, freedom, independence and their own self-worth, they occupy the “sweet spot” at the bottom left corner of the spectrum, along with hippies and Tea Partiers. But since bums are essentially parasites on society and who survive on either formally or informally doled-out welfare, and often blame others for their predicament, they rightfully belong near the other end of the spectrum.)"
  5:02pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Katya: I was about to look for a good article explaining the hierarchy of Hobos, Tramps, and Bums. Hobos are the top because, like you said, they travel and work because they want to live free and not be bound. Tramps travel, hitching rides and such, but don't want to work. Bums stay in the same place, begging instead of working, hence they're the bottom of that hierarchy.

Irwin:

Chart now linked to the PJ Media article.
  5:05pm
Cher:

What about Gyspies and Thieves?
  5:08pm
Katya:

So much for that funk I was in before the show! Every time I check the playlist you folks make me laugh. Points for Cher. Smells like innate human nature individualism in here.
  5:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

The early part of Hump Day does tend to get funk-y for me as well, that's why I'm glad for WFMU. I leave work happy!
  5:15pm
Denise in DC:

Hey, did I miss an explanation of why Irwin isn't playing 45s like the rest of WFMU this week?
  5:18pm
Ike:

@Denise: Because he's a rugged individualist.
  5:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

Prince Rama and Ted Leo & Pharmacists seem to be popular across many programs on this station, for great reason.

@Irwin: Can WFMU contributors deposit their own nuclear waste in your Sub-Basement at a discount, if we show a postcard or local ad?
  5:22pm
Jeffrey Dahmer:

What about vats? I have a few for your basement...
  5:24pm
Matt from Springfield:

R. Stevie! I was wondering who this could be.

Love this Loquat! This is like the original "There Is A Light" crossed with Sia's cover of the Church's "Under The Milky Way"!

What about "to this comment your playlist post"?
  5:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

OMG, Victory Gin! I found their MySpace when I was looking up just how many terms and phrases from Orwell's "1984" have made it into band names. "Unpersons" and "Two Minute Hate" are numerous, particularly metal/punk bands.
