Oh yea!
that's how you start a show! my fav Morgan album.
Wed. 10/13/10 3:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Amazing art! Maybe not something for the Louvre, but certainly something for the Loo...
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:05pm Robert:

That opening sounds an awful lot like a temporal rearrangement of the opening theme of "The Man Fron UNCLE".
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:12pm Oatman:

Listening and looking forward to Rick on the show! Nice to hear XTC.
Wed. 10/13/10 3:17pm another old man:

  Wed. 10/13/10 3:25pm Irwin:

@Julie: say wha?
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:27pm Julie:

maybe your opinion has changed since the days I used to send you tapes ;)
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:29pm Irwin:

What's a "tape"?
Wed. 10/13/10 3:30pm Matt from Springfield:

Ah, just missed Kate! Oh well, it's ONLY "The Red Shoes"!

Just kidding, that was a fairly good album, IMHO.
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:31pm Young Generation:

A "tape"? isn't that why you're not supposed to eat undercooked meat, or something like that?
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:31pm Julie:

it's what they use to block off the area after you've committed your crimes.

@Matt: love Kate, Red Shoes not so much
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:31pm Oatman:

irwin is the man with the child in his eyes.
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:31pm Oatman:

i think the tape lives in the stomach.
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:33pm BSI:

don't never, but never... make fun o' no....... cripples.......
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:37pm Yair Yona:

Tape is actually a fantastic Swedish electornic duo, playing vintage sounds and slightly psychedelic. check out their Luminarium album. a killer. also, worth checking their collaboration with Bill Wells
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:37pm Clark Barr:

Ah, the siren sounds of the goddess Amanda! ☺
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:38pm ScottC:

Amanda Fuel for another week!
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:39pm Detroit Mac:

Hi Irwin:
As part of the Rick Meyerowitz portion of the show... I would love to hear his take on the different Art Directors: from The Cloud Studio Hippies to Ron Barrett. Also good would be to hear his opinion at what point the magazine began it's decline (was it when Matty Simmons bought out Doug Kenney & Hank Beard's shares?). I was there in late 74 thru early 76 and a greater cast of creatives you could not find. It spoilt me forever in thinking what fun and success one could have working at a monthly magazine (even after I was fired over the phone by Peter Kleinman).
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:40pm clyde stubblefied:

isn't amanda growling the Charlie's Angels theme song??
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:40pm thomas:

strange interlude indeed
Wed. 10/13/10 3:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Irwin, do you have "Profane Thoughts On A Car Trip"? That sounds a little more interesting, less confusing. Strange interlude, indeed. Maybe it's a podcast before there were podcasts! Jody & Amanda strike again!
Wed. 10/13/10 3:47pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Julie, taking off after only one week?! A fine week that was, however!

Have you considered playing a Hounds of Love/Ninth Wave track as your next Kate track? All very good night music!
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:49pm Clark Barr:

The question I would like to ask to Rick--What ever happened to Vinny Shinblind, the Invisible Sex Fiend?
  Wed. 10/13/10 3:54pm Nat:

National Lampoon meant a lot to me in the 70's and early 80's. Just bought Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead... it is amazing. Thank you Rick Meyerowitz.
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:02pm Oatman:

one question, i'm a fan of the radio show and albums and of the mag. can you tell us, who worked on the mag who also worked on the music/radio/albums, or did that not come up much at the mag, being it was a different avenue of media?
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:04pm Oatman:

this is all so great!
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:05pm Julie:

@Matt I was away, that's the only reason I missed. I will hit all kinds of Kate tracks, I'm sure, next week is focus on 45's so I have a couple great singles of hers to choose from. (and thanks!)
Wed. 10/13/10 4:08pm Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I'm surprised Irwin's never played The Dollyrots "Brand New Key" -- modern power pop and Melanie Safka are freq. heard on here. I had to snag that one from iTunes!
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:10pm Julie:

@Matt isn't that a GREAT version :)
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:12pm ?:

Hey Rick,
Dumb question: What was the deal with all the girls with nvery busty naked gals in the photo galleries and how did they get them to pose?
And opinions about what the mag became years latter.
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:13pm Julie:

He wouldn't be the first person driven to death by Chevy Chase
Wed. 10/13/10 4:17pm Matt from Springfield:

I inherited the Yearbook (and don't forget the Newspaper from '78) from my Dad, and I love how it's so dense, you find something new EVERY time you look at them! How was the division of labor for that book's art? Did someone focus on illustrations while someone else did the photography? Who wrote the text and captions? Did you audition actors to be in the photos?
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:17pm Ike:

Ha. Yeah and Chevy is the weak link on the great "Community" too.
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:22pm ScottC:

how much christian right hate mail did you get?
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:23pm marq:

Hey, Rick. What do you think about Amanda?
Wed. 10/13/10 4:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Nigel Tufnel--the lead guitarist.
Chris Guest is great as Flash Bazbo! Reminds me of his Waiting For Guffman character, but if you hadn't told me that I would have guessed that was Martin Short!
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:39pm Lizardner Dave:

Uh-oh....traveling a dangerous road with Irwin and these political statements....
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:40pm Robert Zimmerman:

Don't follow LEADERS--
And watch your PARKING METERS!
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:45pm Parq:

Irwin and Rick, you may be interested to know that this Ron fieds bit became a runaway fad (today we'd call it a meme) with the staff of Boston College's WFMU. Practically every phrase of this bit became a catchphrase at the station that year.
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:46pm Parq:

Sorry, that's Boston College's WZBC.
Wed. 10/13/10 4:52pm Matt from Springfield:

I remember that Hitler-on-an-island photoessay! As well as at least one Invisible Sex Fiend cartoon. Great stuff in the Lampoon!
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:56pm Clark Barr:

Irwin, thanks a lot for having Rick on your show. It was GREAT to hear him!
  Wed. 10/13/10 4:58pm Parq:

If it's not too late, ask him about Ed Subetsky (not sure I'm spelling it right.)
Wed. 10/13/10 4:59pm Matt from Springfield:

No idea Christopher Cerf was with you all--I knew him from Sesame Street, "Telephone Rock" etc.

Thanks for coming on Rick! Very insightful!
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:01pm Oatman:

Thanks Rick!
Wed. 10/13/10 5:01pm Matt from Springfield:

Neil seems a bit out of it on this recording....
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:04pm Parq:

The Neil parody was, and still is, deadly brilliant.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:05pm Lizardner Dave:

This was written right after he looked disgustedly at a young Ken Freedman during the Rust Never Sleeps tour, right?
Wed. 10/13/10 5:06pm Matt from Springfield:

@Parq: That's why the Lampoon is so awesome; anything that does parodies so thoroughly dead-on is (for example SCTV).
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:08pm Parq:

Dig it, Matt. Attention to detail is what makes a music parody great. That's why I always give props to 'Weird' Al's work.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:16pm PMD:

I am SO late to the party. Hi Irwin and all!
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:16pm Sam:

Carole King covering Daniel Johnston?
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:18pm Old Hippie:

Old Pal Irwin, please note the missppilleng of "Odessey and Oracle."
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:18pm Bad Ronald:

That CK song is from the Head soundtrack.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:18pm SF Spike:

Porpoise Song! I loved the Monkees AND Bongwater versions.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:19pm Oatman:

Phil Ochs!
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:20pm another John:

Wow, it has been forever! Love it...
Wed. 10/13/10 5:24pm Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful Phil Ochs! More orchestration than I'm used to, but this is wonderful, Nick Drake-Five Leaves Left-style chamber music, so I'm loving this.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:37pm Footnote:

Porpoise Song as a 45 made the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. By The Monkees.
Wed. 10/13/10 5:40pm Miles in his Cadillac:

Shit, I'm sorry Voodoo, baby! I didn't see ya comin round that corner, or else I woulda stopped. We cool, right? I know I am, but are you?
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:48pm Miles redux:

Sorry, Irwin, just drove over your Hoover. I gots to get offa the junk.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:50pm tdss:

Not a single scholarly article. I'm shocked.
Alert query: [ facebook "dumb fucks" exploitation privacy "business model"
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:51pm Miles redux:

But first I need another dose to understand tdss.
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:52pm tdss:

Think. You can do it!
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:52pm PMD:

At least I got one Amanda
Wed. 10/13/10 5:53pm Matt from Springfield:

Just a song before she goes...yea AMANDA!
And I've been wanting to hear "Offensive Lanky Howls" too! Thanks Irwin, a great dessert to this show!
Wed. 10/13/10 5:55pm Matt from Springfield:

Mmm, and Ol' Blue Eyes for an even SMOOTHER cognac for after the dessert. Great show, great interview, see ya next week!
  Wed. 10/13/10 5:57pm Mike East:

my coworker just heard Amanda for the first time.
I think She's got a new fan.
